Adam Voges contributed a quick-fire half-century, striking seven boundaries in the process but it was a 62-run sixth-wicket stand at the end of the innings that carried the total towards 245.The brisk opening stand between Mark Cosgrove and Rhett Lockyear was in stark contrast to the approach adopted by Western Australia and ensured the home side were in good shape responding to Western Australia’s 20-over score. The openers fell in quick succession, however, just before the break to give the visitors an opening before Cowan and Bailey’s steadied the ship.Tasmania needed a further 150 to win when Cowan and Bailey resumed their stand. While neither battered the boundary boards with expansive shots both ran well between the wickets and picked up runs smartly to build a perfect foundation to the victory. Cowan had reached 82 before he offered a catch to Marsh and Travis Birt was run out for 1 an over later. Jonathan Wells kept Bailey company in an important 35-run stand and despite two more wickets, Bailey held firm to give his team victory.

Liverpool youngster Neco Williams will leave the club permanently during the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell.

The Lowdown: Williams excellent on loan

The Wales international traded the Reds for Fulham in January, joining the Championship side on loan until the end of the season.

Williams has excelled for the Cottagers, chipping in with two league goals and assists apiece and helping them gain promotion back to the Premier League.

He was also hailed a ‘majestic’ by Wales Online after one performance for his country and he will return to Liverpool in the summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell tipped Williams to leave Anfield permanently, however, in order to enjoy regular minutes elsewhere and kick on in his career:

“Neco Williams has been playing at Fulham and doing well. He wants to play now. He wants to start every week now he has a taste of it. Why would he want to come back to Liverpool and sit on the bench? Yes, he has tasted success at Liverpool but he has been more involved at Fulham.

“I think the writing is on the wall here, especially if Liverpool are looking at other right-backs. He will leave because his priority will be to play regularly.

“If Jurgen Klopp is shuffling his pack he might be able to recruit a replacement. The key will be who they recruit. Klopp has the knack of getting the right players.”

The Verdict: Right time to leave

While Williams is clearly a talented young right-back, it does make sense for him to consider leaving Liverpool, considering Trent Alexander-Arnold should be ahead of him for many years to come.

Barring a serious injury to Alexander-Arnold, it is hard to see how the Welshman is going to fit into Jurgen Klopp’s plans and he is too good to be warming the substitutes’ bench every week.

A permanent move to Fulham could be absolutely perfect, especially as they are now in the Premier League, allowing Williams to prove himself at the top level week in, week out.

It’s been a rarity in recent times to see a full-strength India XI on the field during a Test match. At the Motera stadium on Thursday, MS Dhoni may finally be able to call on the best available, and with no injuries or niggles to complain of on the eve of the game, it was a prospect that he was looking forward to. “We have important series coming up,” he said. “After this, we go to South Africa and then we have the World Cup. If you see the last few series we’ve played, more often than not we’ve missed key players.”The lack of continuity has been most keenly felt in the pace-bowling department. Zaheer Khan missed the three Tests in Sri Lanka, but has otherwise shouldered most of the pace burden, with no consistency at the other end. “Fast bowling is a demanding job,” Dhoni said. “If a batsman is only 70 or 80 percent, you can still gamble and play him, but with a fast bowler you can’t do that, especially when you’re playing with two seamers and two spinners. If you’re missing one bowler, it gets very difficult to get through 90 overs in a day.”New Zealand have lost eight of their last 15 Tests, and won only two, and were blanked 4-0 in a one-day series in Bangladesh recently. But according to Dhoni, there was no danger of India disrespecting their opponents or taking victory for granted. “It will be a big mistake to take any side lightly,” he said. “They’ve got players who have performed everywhere they have played. Whatever happened [to New Zealand] in Bangladesh, we’re not really thinking about that.”His own side have been ranked No.1 for nearly a year now and haven’t lost a series since Sri Lanka in 2008. “Over the last couple of years, we’ve done well abroad too,” said Dhoni when asked if he felt more pressure on home turf. “That’s one thing with the Indian cricket team. But if you’ve done everything that you can, we accept that.”He did suggest, however, that the winning habit did much for team spirit. “When a team has lost a few games and pressure is applied, if they don’t start well, they tend to fragment or go in different directions,” said Dhoni. “When a team’s used to winning, it sticks together and waits for an opportunity to do well or go back into a game.”That has been illustrated in each of India’s last three Tests, when they’ve had to chase in excess of 200 to win games. At Mohali, VVS Laxman’s genius helped them creep over the line in an incredibly tense finish. “I would certainly love to win the toss [laughs], but that’s one good thing that has happened,” he said. “In the fourth innings, batsmen have to play cautiously and even if set, one odd delivery can get you. It adds to the confidence of the batting unit.”The one man in that unit under a little pressure is Rahul Dravid, who hasn’t had the best time of it in 2010. “He’s a great player, and has always bounced back from situations like these,” said Dhoni. “Once he’s set, we’re hoping he gets a big score. He’s looking very good in the nets, so we expect runs from him.”There were encouraging words too for Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara, prominent in that Bangalore victory but certain to miss out on places in the XI here. “Vijay and Pujara were replacing Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman,” he said. “When you have players like that coming back, they find a place in the playing XI. But I don’t think it’s demotivating. Vijay has always done well for India. And Pujara batted really well in the second innings in the last game.”India have now lost the toss in 10 successive Tests [Dhoni captained in nine of them, missing Chittagong through injury] and the spin of the coin aside, there will also be much attention devoted to the pitch, which has seen scores of 76 and 760 in the last two games played at the Motera. “Hopefully, it will be a turner,” said Dhoni with a smile. “We’ll have to see before the start of play. It has less grass when compared to the Sri Lanka game [November 2009] and a lot less than the South Africa game [April 2008]. It looks like a normal Indian track.”

A transmissão da Copa do Mundo de 2018 estará mais femininas na emissora de TV fechada Fox Sports. Isso porque a emissora está selecionando três narradoras para fazer parte do time de transmissão do canal. Para ajudar as interessada, o canal montou uma cabine de transmissão em um shopping, na Zona Oeste do Rio de Janeiro e lá, as candidatas podem sentir o clima da transmissão e gravar seu vídeo para participar do processo seletivo.

O LANCE! foi ao shopping conhecer a cabine e conversar com a líder e curadora do projeto, a jornalista Vanessa Riche, que nos contou um pouco sobre a repercussão da ação:

― Fiquei muito surpresa com o que tá chegando de material. Só ontem (segunda-feira 12/3) assisti 70 videos. Fiquei muito impressionada com a diferença, com os sotaques, com a maneira de narrar. A mulher é mais detalhista que os homens, né. ― destacou Vanessa ― Acho que num primeiro momento eu convidei essas mulheres e consegui encorajá-las. Aqui na cabine eu recebi muitas mulheres com filhos pequenos. A criança ficava do lado de fora brincando ou no carrinho e a mãe lá dentro narrando ― contou.

‘‘Tem isso de ‘Ah, o que os homens vão dizer’. Eu não quero saber o que eles vão dizer, eu vou fazer!’’, comenta Vanessa Riche

O processo seletivo está disponível para mulheres de todo o Brasil e não é necessário possuir experiência em narração. Nem mesmo em jornalismo ou áreas correlatas. Qualquer mulher a partir dos 18 anos pode enviar seu vídeo ou áudio de narração.

― A gente vai revolucionar nessa copa podendo oferecer uma cobertura diferenciada. Podendo ter um canal onde tem mulheres narrando jogos do Brasil a semifinal e a final.O olhar da mulher realmente é mais detalhista, é diferenciado. A mulher tem uma emoção que é dela, que está dentro dela. Ela vê e lê o jogo de uma forma diferente. ― comentou a curadora do projeto ― Hoje a gente tem um movimento muito grande de mulheres levando seus filhos para os estádios. Mulheres como árbitras, bandeiras, repórteres apresentadoras, a gente precisa de uma mulher narradora.

Durante o papo, Vanessa contou que além das narradoras que estão sendo selecionadas, o Fox Sports 2 vai ter mais da presença feminina em mesas redondas, programas e transmissões. Vanessa revelou também, que as mulheres selecionadas para a narração da Fox Sports vão narrar os jogos do Brasil, semifinais e a final da competição.

Seis candidatas serão selecionadas e levadas para um treinamento intensivo durante um mês e meio. Neste treinamento, as candidatas receberão palestas com grandes nomes do futebol e do jornalismo esportivo, como Carlos Alberto Parreira, Paulo Vinícius Coelho, o PVC, e até mesmo um papo com a equipe do Tite. Após esse treinamento, as três melhores candidatas serão escolhidas para o desafio de narrar jogos da Copa do Mundo:

― Isso vai ser um movimento interessante. Poder assistir uma Copa do Mundo com um olhar diferente. Pra mim foi um presente! ―contou Vanessa

Vanessa acredita que uma nova referência pode surgir desse projeto, afinal, hoje, as referências são apenas homens. A profissional entende que um novo mercado vai se abrir com a inserção de mulheres na narração e que será um trabalho muito árduo dar conta dos talentos:

― Acho que a gente vai ter um problema bom depois que acabar essa seleção. Vamos ter 3 meninas muito boas nas mãos. Fora as outras que precisavam ser encorajadas ou mais treinadas para alcançar. Essa oportunidade é única. Eu fico muito feliz de poder estar a frente de um projeto desses, um projeto inovador― comentou Vanessa ― Eu sinto que essas mulheres, só de vir aqui na cabine – que é mais difícil do que fazer em casa – elas já estão mostrando que não existem barreiras. Já tem uma coragem natural delas. Isso é maravilhoso. Acho que é o maior presente. ― completou.

“Cada uma faz do seu jeito. E ali, quando você imprime o seu jeito na narração, é a sua marca que está ali estampada”, destaca Vanessa Riche

O processo ainda está aberto e acontece até o dia 18 de março, as interessadas podem enviar suas gravações por e-mail ou participar da cabine montada Barra Shopping. Vanessa conta que já tem algumas narrações que se destacaram, mas sem nomes, a profissional não dá muitos detalhes:

― Tem uma menina que gosta muito de futebol, entende pois assiste e joga. É muito interessante pois ela tem o conhecimento, mas não tem a técnica ― contou ― Uma delas que achei muito interessante, ela narrou ‘cadê o goleiro? cadê o goleiro? Tá ali, foi na padaria comprar pão’, no momento do gol. Cada uma faz do seu jeito. E ali, quando você imprime o seu jeito na narração é a sua marca que está ali estampada. ― completou.

Por ser uma ação pioneira, no Brasil, Vanessa fala sobre as curiosidades e diferenças que podemos ver nas narrações. Diversos sotaques, formas diferentes de narrar:

― Eu acho curioso pois, sem dúvida, não vamos ter mulheres que narram como homens e sim, mulheres que narram como mulheres. Elas não vão estar imitando. Como não existe referência, é bom, por um lado, pois elas não vão imitar ninguém. Você vai fazer o que acha que é o mais próximo do correto, o que é bom de ouvir. ― comentou ― Eu acho que a gente vai ter três perfis completamente diferentes. Quero muito que sejam de cidades diferentes que tragam culturas diferentes do Brasil. Nosso país é tão rico culturalmente que acho que elas vão trazer um jeito de olhar e uma maneira de falar muito diferente e isso vai ser maravilhoso. ― finalizou.

Após o papo com o LANCE!, chegou uma candidata para a participar na cabine. O curioso é que esta candidata havia sido citada por Vanessa como uma das narrações que chamou a atenção. O L! assistiu à narração da jovem e bateu um papo com ela também. Karen Carvalho, 26, é educadora física, apaixonada por futebol e decidiu participar do processo seletivo e conta que descobriu por acaso:

“Os homens mandam bem, mas as mulheres também têm potencial de estar ali no mesmo patamar”, destaca Karen Carvalho

― Foi muita sorte. Eu passei e vi escrito ‘Fox Sports’ e li narradoras, ao invés de narradores. Achei interessante, falei com eles e fui bem recebida, então eu fiz. Fiz duas vezes, mas hoje (terça-feira) vim ao cinema e decidi fazer de novo. ― explicou Karen, que em seguida, disse o que achou da ação ― É importante para agregar mais ao esporte. Os homens mandam bem, mas as mulheres também têm potencial de estar ali no mesmo patamar de um homem, narrando jogo e fazendo matérias esportivas.

Karen mostrou facilidade na narração e ganhou dicas e elogios de Vanessa Riche, que à acompanhou na cabine. A jovem joga futebol desde muito nova e hoje, disputa campeonatos por uma equipe não credenciada. A candidata contou também que tinha o sonho de ser jogadora da Seleção e já pensou até mesmo em fazer jornalismo esportivo, mas revela que a narração foi uma surpresa:

― Não pensei em narrar futebol, mas já pensei em comentar jogos de futebol. Narrar foi algo bem peculiar ― confessou a jovem ― Se eu conseguir, vou entrar de cabeça, fazer o melhor que eu posso e curtir também. Me divertir muito.

Leeds United correspondent Graham Smyth has provided an update on winger Ian Poveda and a return to Blackburn Rovers.

The Lowdown: Poveda’s Leeds career

Poveda was brought to the club by Victor Orta back in 2020 and has gone on to make 20 appearances for the first-team at Elland Road, 14 of which came in the Premier League last season.

The 22-year-old was sent on loan to Blackburn Rovers for the 2021/22 campaign, however, he has been out through injury since November.

The winger has been recovering at Thorp Arch in recent months, but now looks set to make a return to Ewood Park.

The Latest: Smyth’s post

Smyth took to Twitter on Monday to provide an update regarding Poveda and a return to Blackburn.

He confirmed that Poveda will ‘return’ to Blackburn ‘this week’, labelling it as a ‘trial of sorts’ with Tony Mowbray to decide if he wants the Leeds man around for the final three Championship games.

“Ian Poveda will return to Blackburn Rovers towards the end of this week for a trial of sorts, to see if his loan spell can resume.

“A chance to finish the season on a high, after a lot of potential and promise was dashed by injury.”

The Verdict: Caution needed

Poveda has returned to the grass in recent weeks but hasn’t played competitively in 2022, so there could be a risk of a new injury occurring if Rovers overload the winger in the coming weeks.

However, you can see why Blackburn want to see Poveda in action, especially as they have continued to pay a percentage of his salary while he has been sidelined.

Blackburn’s playoff hopes are also fading quickly as they are without a win in five, so they may see Poveda’s return as a welcome boost as they look to turn things around and finish in the top six.
