Babar Azam hit an unbeaten century in Pakistan’s chase against Scotland•ICC/Getty

Pakistan picked up their second straight win of the tournament, beating Scotland by nine wickets at the Kev Hackey Oval in Buderim. After being asked to field, they bowled out Scotland for 200 and chased the target comfortably.Mohammad Nawaz picked up 4 for 20 with his left-arm spin, but Scotland would have hoped for a bigger score after starting their innings well. Opener Ross McLean made 59 and was part of a quick opening stand worth 36 with Mathew Cross. McLean and Freddie Coleman added 66 for the third wicket and Scotland were looking good at 146 for 2 in the 33rd over. But a collapse ensued. Nawaz struck and was supported by Ehsan Adil who dislodged two batsmen. The last eight wickets fell for just 54 in 17 overs.Babar Azam led the way for Pakistan in the chase, smashing an unbeaten ton and was part of an opening stand worth 163 with Sami Aslam, who made 78 off 79 balls. That stand all but sealed Scotland’s fate and Pakistan won with almost 14 overs to spare. Azam finished with 106 not out off 121 balls, hitting 10 fours and two sixes.West Indies continued to impress in this Under-19 World Cup, thrashing Papua New Guinea by nine wickets at Endeavour Park. PNG were bowled out for 116 in 41 overs after choosing to bat. Only three batsmen managed to reach double-figures and that included their captain Christopher Kent, who top-scored with 39. PNG had been reduced to 62 for 6 at one stage but Nigel Boge and Chad Soper added 38 together down the order to take the score towards 100. Seamer Jerome Jones was among the wickets, picking up three for 15 in a 10-over spell. His victims included the PNG openers. Kyle Mayers also grabbed three wickets in his four overs.Sunil Ambris made a mockery of PNG’s score, going on a rampage in the chase. He smashed nine fours and seven sixes in his 91, off just 43 balls. He made all his runs in an opening stand of 111 – his opening partner, captain Kraigg Brathwaite, remained unbeaten on 17 – and West Indies’ victory was sealed in the 12th over.Sri Lanka picked up their first win of the competition, inflicting a 195-run defeat on Namibia at Allan Border Field in Brisbane. They cashed in after opting to bat, helped by half-centuries from opener Sebastian Perera and Sandun Weerakkody in the middle order. Sri Lanka’s was a collective batting display, with handy contributions from the rest of their top five as well. They were in a dominant position at 210 for 2 in the 38th over and looked set to go past 300 but ended up losing their next seven wickets for 88 runs. Zhivago Groenewald picked up 3 for 49. However, Sri Lanka, having scored 298 for 9, had done more than enough.Barring Wian van Vuuren at the top of the order and wicketkeeper Gerhard Erasmus, Sri Lanka’s bowlers faced no resistance with the bat. Van Vuuren made 38, Erasmus was unbeaten on 36 but the rest of the line-up crumbled. Lahiru Madushanka gave the batsmen a tough time, picking up four wickets for 15 runs with his medium-pace. Namibia were bowled out for 103 in 35 overs.

Khawaja ton sets up Derbyshire

Australia’s Usman Khawaja scored his maiden one-day century for Derbyshire as they recorded a CB40 double over the Unicorns with a 35-run victory

15-Jul-2012
ScorecardAustralia’s Usman Khawaja scored his maiden one-day century for Derbyshire as they recorded a Clydesdale Bank 40 double over the Unicorns with a 35-run victory at Chesterfield.Khawaja made 104 from 109 balls and shared a century opening stand with Chesney Hughes who made 66 out of Derbyshire’s 235 for 7.Luis Reece led the chase with 59 from 63 balls but his dismissal in the 35th over ended the Unicorns’ slim hopes and they were bowled out for 200, with Mark Turner taking four for 54.Derbyshire’s only previous victory in the competition was against the Unicorns in early May and Khawaja and Hughes put them in a strong position to repeat that success with an opening stand of 138 in 26 overs. Not surprisingly after so much rain, the pitch was slow but both batsmen reeled off some handsome strokes on a rare day of sunshine and blue skies.Hughes scattered spectators behind the long on boundary by driving Bradley Wadlan’s slow left-arm spin for the first six of the innings and Khawaja matched his partner when he swept Luke Beaven over midwicket in the next over.Khawaja’s cover driving was a highlight of Derbyshire’s innings and after reaching his fifty from 66 balls, he pulled a second six off Reece who put down a sharp return chance when Hughes was on 55.Hughes sliced a drive to cover three overs later but Khawaja moved smoothly to his hundred before he was bowled trying to reverse sweep and that sparked off a collapse which saw six wickets fall in 25 balls.Wayne Madsen miscued a drive, Dan Redfern failed to clear long on and Garry Park, playing against his younger brother Craig, went first ball when he chipped a catch to cover.Jon Clare got off the mark with a six that flew into a row of portable toilets but Glen Querl struck twice in the final over as the Falcons fell well short of the total Khawaja and Hughes put them on course for.But it was still a demanding target for a team that had not previously scored 200 in the CB40 this season although they got off to a flier as James Ord and Wadlan plundered 30 from Turner’s opening three overs.Ord unleashed one of the shots of the day when he straight drove Turner into the timber-framed pavilion but Clare cut short what was developing into a dangerous partnership when he trapped him lbw in his first over.Wadlan skied a sweep at Durston to mid-on but former Leicestershire wicketkeeper Tom New kept the Unicorns in the hunt against the county he played for on loan with 31 before he was caught behind in the 21st over. When ex-Somerset stalwart Keith Parsons was run out for a duck in the same over, the Unicorns chase was faltering and Craig Park narrowly avoided matching his brother’s first ball dismissal when he was dropped by Richard Johnson, who was making his debut on loan from Warwickshire.Reece swept David Wainwright for six to reach 50 but when he sliced Turner to cover, the game was up and the fast bowler wrapped up victory with his fourth victim in the 39th over.

4/4/15 – Palmeiras 3 x 1 Mogi Mirim – Paulista

27/5/15 – Palmeiras 0 x 0 ASA – Copa do Brasil

Prior excited by Bairstow presence

Matt Prior said he was not worried about fellow wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow’s inclusion in the England squad to face West Indies

Alan Gardner15-May-2012

Matt Prior is likely to return to No. 7 in the England order if Jonny Bairstow makes his expected debut at Lord’s•Getty Images

Matt Prior is currently regarded as one of the finest wicketkeeper-batsmen in Test cricket, so you wouldn’t expect him to be ruffled by the prospect of a little competition. With England set to give a debut to Jonny Bairstow in the first Test against West Indies at Lord’s, Prior said he is actually enjoying the presence of a fellow gloveman in the dressing room – though if his 22-year-old team-mate enjoys a similar Test debut to the one Prior made five years ago, he may scratch his beard and mull the question a little more deeply next time he’s asked.Prior made an unbeaten 126 in his first Test in 2007, against the same opponents on the same ground, and despite a brief period when he lost the gloves to Tim Ambrose at the start of 2008 has carved an unassailable niche for himself as England’s wicketkeeper in the long format. Bairstow, who keeps wicket for Yorkshire and was behind the stumps for the Lions’ ten-wicket win over the West Indians last week, is expected to play as a specialist batsman, coming in at No.6, but Prior is not worried about welcoming a man who could become a rival for his spot into the side. At least not yet, anyway.”If he smashes a double hundred and I get nought he’ll probably become a rival pretty quickly,” Prior said, with a laugh. “He’s a team-mate, obviously he’s a wicketkeeper as well, but there are a number of wicketkeepers around the country and there always has been. Whether they’re in the team or playing county cricket I know that I have to perform well to keep my place.”It’s always exciting when a player like Jonny comes through into the squad, he’s settled in very well. It’s nice to form a relationship with another keeper because ultimately he’s the only other bloke in the room that knows what it’s like to be a keeper. It’s hugely exciting for Jonny this week and if he does get selected to make his debut it will be a great feeling I’m sure.”Prior, who has made three of his six Test tons at Lord’s, including two in his last two Test matches at the ground, is the sort of player who would not begrudge Bairstow success, even if his place were less secure. He may have received a ticking off from the ICC for breaking a window in the pavilion and discombobulating a few MCC members during the Sri Lanka Test last year but it is team achievement, rather than individual accolades, that gets Prior worked up, a trait that is common to Andy Flower’s hard-working England side.”I’ve never been a big stat watcher. I’ve always tried to play the role that’s needed to win the game, or save the game, or whatever it may be, so that’s for me more important than the individual score,” Prior said. “I’ve always played like that and I think I would struggle to play any differently. I find it more exciting to play for the team and to win a Test match.”I believe it is one of our strengths. The team goal and team performance comes ahead of any one person’s own goals and ego and I think it’s vital in any successful team to have that.”Similarly, he will happily resume his place at No. 7 in the order, having been promoted to No. 6 on England’s tour of Sri Lanka, as they supplemented their four-man attack with Samit Patel as the spin-bowling allrounder. In English conditions, on green pitches and against green opponents, a return to four bowlers and six batsmen is almost certain.”I really don’t mind. It doesn’t make any difference, really, batting six or seven, that one spot,” Prior said. “Batting at six you potentially have more opportunity to get a bigger score but then batting a seven has its challenges as well and that’s something I enjoy doing. I genuinely believe the most important thing is getting the balance of the team right to win the Test match and if I bat at six or seven, I’m easy with either one.”While West Indies are depleted by the absence of key players at IPL, Prior was unequivocal about what his priorities are. “Personally for me no, because Test cricket is my life, all my goals are based around Test cricket at this moment in time,” he said, when asked whether he would put an IPL contract above playing for England. “But it’s an individual choice and it’s up to those people to make their decisions. For me, I love playing Test cricket and it’s something I want to do for a few more years to come.”It is perhaps easier to be enthusiastic when you are ranked No. 1 in the format, as England are. West Indies are currently rated the world’s No. 7 Test side, a position they have not been higher than since the summer of 2000, when England beat them in a Test series for the first time in 31 years. But while Prior was not taking victory for granted, he denied that England needed to reassert their credentials after losing four Tests out of five over the winter and with their closest challengers for the No. 1 spot, South Africa, arriving later in the summer.”I don’t think we need to prove anything, as such, I think we’ve played pretty good cricket over a number of years now so I don’t know about that. But certainly we want to get off to a good start this summer, after a few little glitches in the winter I know that everyone’s very keen and pumped up to perform well from the off. There are two big series coming up, we want to play well, we want to win those series.”

O treinador cobrava a marcação pressão e dividiu prováveis titulares no mesmo time.

Ganguly match just another game for Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has sought to downplay the huge hype that surrounds their Saturday game against Pune Warriors India

Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has sought to downplay the huge hype that surrounds their Saturday game against Pune Warriors India. This is the first time Sourav Ganguly, now Warriors’ captain, will be part of the opposition in front of the passionate Kolkata fans. Eden Gardens is sold out, black marketers are having a field day, and given Ganguly’s popularity in Kolkata, the home side could possibly be in for an “away game”.”Sourav is an individual,” Gambhir said. “We are playing against Pune Warriors, and not against Sourav Ganguly.” Gambhir then went on to say he couldn’t control how the crowd behaved, except for trying his best to win the game.”Whoever Kolkata wants to support they are free to support. I have always maintained KKR belongs to Kolkata. There is no other team that belongs to Kolkata. We always play for the pride of Kolkata. We will always do that, whether we get the support or not. We go out there to make people happy, and bring joy to them. Our job will be the same whether we would be the away or home team tomorrow. We will keep playing for Kolkata be it tomorrow or near future.”However much Gambhir might want to downplay the presence of Ganguly, it is impossible to run away from. They have been talking about this game in Kolkata ever since the schedule was finalised. An emotional back-story is how Knight Riders had first taken away Ganguly’s captaincy, and later let him go. The Kolkata fans are known to be an emotional lot, which makes divided loyalties a distinct possibility. Knight Riders’ bowling coach, Wasim Akram, is reported to have even compared this to an India-Pakistan match. When asked about that, Gambhir didn’t seem impressed.”That’s his perspective of tomorrow’s game,” he said. “For me, it’s another game of cricket. There is nothing so-called India vs Pakistan. We are playing against Pune Warriors, and there is no such rivalry as Pakistan. India and Pakistan is a completely different ball game. It’s just the media that is creating the hype. It’s Wasim’s way of looking at the game tomorrow. For me, it’s just another game of cricket.”Nor did Gambhir seem interested in any mind games. Asked if he drew any comfort from Ganguly’s struggles with the bat and their coinciding with Warriors’ downward spiral, Gambhir went back to his mantra of not speaking about individuals. “We are not playing against individuals. We are playing against a team. If individuals are struggling that does not make them a lesser force. Any one of them can fire with the ball or bat, and can win the game. If one or two are struggling, it’s not going to make any difference.”Gambhir stayed away from any captaincy debate as well. “Captains are only as good as their team,” he said. “Captain does not win games. It’s just the planning that they do. It’s the 11 men on the field that contribute. Captain can only be successful if you have the people to execute those plans. It can be a failure as well if you don’t have the people to execute them.”However, given the mad rush for tickets, the huge crowds to watch training sessions, the history between Ganguly and Kolkata, and Ganguly and Knight Riders, Gambhir did seem to be in a small minority of people who believed this was just another game.

Cutting ruled out of Sheffield Shield final

Ben Cutting, the Queensland fast bowler, has been ruled out of the Sheffield Shield final. Cutting missed Queensland’s last game due to a groin injury and was named in a 13-man squad for the final against Tasmania, which starts at the Gabba on Friday, but the Bulls confirmed on the eve of the match he would not play.Cutting bowled in the nets on Thursday and while he got through training, Queensland felt his lack of match bowling in the past fortnight was a concern, and that playing him in a five-day final could still be risky. The Bulls are expected to name Ryan Harris, Steve Magoffin, Alister McDermott and Cameron Boyce as their attack, although Luke Feldman is also in the squad and could be considered.Tasmania also have a decision to make regarding the make-up of their attack, with three men from their 14-man squad fighting for one spot. Jackson Bird, Luke Butterworth and James Faulkner will be included alongside the spinner Jason Krejza, but the assistant coach Ali de Winter said there was competition for one more place.”We think we’ve got an attack that can exploit the conditions up here whether it’s flat or has a bit of grass on it,” de Winter told ESPNcricinfo. “We’ve got good diversity. We’ve got a left-armer in Faulkner, we’ve got Krejza who’s bowling very well in the last couple of weeks, and then we’ve got an issue with who we pick for our fourth seaming spot, whether it’s Jeremy Smith or Brendan Drew or Matt Johnston.”The Gabba pitch has spent plenty of time under cover over the past few days due to rain in Brisbane and showers have been forecast for all five days of the match. However, given the likelihood that the pitch will favour the bowlers, de Winter does not expect a draw, which would deliver the title to Queensland after they finished on top of the table.”Given we get at least three or four days of cricket here one team or another will win,” he said. “There will certainly be a result in the game. Both teams are in good form and playing an attacking brand of cricket. It will be an exciting game if nothing else.”Tasmania are the defending champions and are aiming to win their third Shield title in six years, while the Bulls will be desperate to improve their conversion rate having won the title only once in the past nine years despite making the final six times. Chris Hartley and James Hopes are the only Queensland players to have played in a title-winning side, in 2005-06.It will also be an opportunity for Ricky Ponting to win a domestic title for the first time in a state career spanning 20 seasons. Ponting, the acting captain for Tasmania while George Bailey is with the ODI squad in the Caribbean, has not played in a Shield final since 1993-94, and enters this match in fine form, having scored 75 not out, 130 and 111 in his three domestic innings since being axed from Australia’s one-day international side.Queensland squad Wade Townsend, Alex Kemp, Andrew Robinson, Joe Burns, Chris Lynn, James Hopes (capt), Chris Hartley (wk), Ryan Harris, Steve Magoffin, Luke Feldman, Cameron Boyce, Alister McDermott.Tasmania squad Ed Cowan, Steve Cazzulino, Ricky Ponting (capt), Alex Doolan, Mark Cosgrove, Nick Kruger, Tom Triffitt (wk), Luke Butterworth, James Faulkner, Matt Johnston, Jason Krejza, Brendan Drew, Jackson Bird, Jeremy Smith.
