Andrew Symonds has gained confidence from his breakthrough half-century against Pakistan after fearing the series might be his last as an international. Symonds was recalled after a couple of suspensions for off-field behaviour for the contest in the United Arab Emirates and knew that if he didn’t perform he would be on the way out.”I did feel like that,” he told AAP after his double of 58 and 2 for 12 helped Australia to a series-levelling six-wicket victory on Friday. “In the first game I got out and I thought: ‘Gee, there’s one down, I’ve got possibly five to go.’ That’s how I was looking at it.”After knee surgery following the Boxing Day Test, Symonds struggled on his return for Queensland and was left out of the South Africa tour to continue his rehabilitation from personal issues that had hampered him since his gone fishing episode last year. “I’d been away for quite a while and that was probably the main thing that was going through my head the last little bit, whether I could find the way that I played successfully when I was in the side,” he said. “It was a very important innings for me.”I’m glad that it happened now and not in two games’ time or the last game, because this has given me a bit of confidence going into the next few games that I play. There’s a bit of relief there and believing that I can do what I used to do is a great thing to feel again.”If he can continue to show improvement – the third game is in Abu Dhabi on Monday – Symonds will be a certainty for the World Twenty20 and may come into consideration for the Ashes. Michael Clarke said Symonds was still a key member of the side.”Without a doubt Symo in form is brilliant in any team,” Clarke said. “Obviously his batting’s a given, when he’s scoring runs he’s brilliant to have because he can win a game, no matter what form of the game, on his own. His fielding and bowling speaks for itself as well.”

Ocupando a penúltima colocação do Campeonato Brasileiro, o Vitória acumula 16 pontos.

Ninguém melhor nesse momento poder assumir a responsabilidade.

James Marshall ton seals series for New Zealand A

New Zealand A won another high-scoring contest at Fitzherbert Park to clinch the series against the visiting England Lions 2-0

Cricinfo staff16-Mar-2009
ScorecardNew Zealand A won another high-scoring contest at Fitzherbert Park to clinch the series against the visiting England Lions 2-0. Set 285 to win, James Marshall took charge of the chase with an aggressive century to secure victory with six wickets in hand and 23 balls to spare.England Lions chose to bat in this game, after their decision to field in the first match had resulted in a target of 374. They got off to a quick start, with the openers adding 36 before Robert Key was dismissed in the seventh over. However, Denly, who top-scored with 68, ensured that England continued to score steadily. It was after his dismissal – caught by Ewen Thompson off Nathan McCullum – that the innings began to unravel. From 138 for 1, England Lions slipped to 148 for 4. They never regained momentum and had to settle for 284 when they looked like scoring more than 300 at one stage. They would have needed a lot more than 300 going by the way New Zealand’s chase turned out. The hosts lost an early wicket – Aaron Redmond for 17 – but Marshall’s 125 off 112 balls was the decisive innings in the match. He added 65 with Peter Ingram for the second wicket and remained steady through a middle-order stumble that left New Zealand A on 138 for 4. Marshall then put on 147 with Gareth Hopkins, who scored 66 off 67 balls, to clinch the series for the hosts.

Southampton fans flock to Hasenhuttl claim

Flocking to Twitter, many Southampton fans have erupted over a behind-the-scenes managerial claim involving Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The 54-year-old appears to be under mounting pressure amid the Saints’ run of form and overall poor start to the 2021/2022 Premier League season.

Southampton, after losing key players like Danny Ings and Jannik Vestergaard in the summer window, find themselves 17th in the table having won no games so far.

While they have enjoyed some noteworthy results against the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham – managing to grab a point against each of the European trio – Hasenhuttl’s men could still be flirting with a possible drop to the Championship at the end of this season.

Football Insider and journalist Wayne Veysey have now come out with a behind-the-scenes claim involving Saints’ boss, with Southampton players apparently expecting him to be sacked in the ‘coming weeks’.

Indeed, a ‘dressing room’ source has apparently told the outlet that there is a ‘strong feeling’ among members of the squad that he won’t be in charge at St Mary’s much longer.

Flocking to this claim, many supporters have erupted in response – find all of their best verdicts from Twitter down below.

Liverpool fans bemoan Firmino rumour

A number of Liverpool supporters have reacted negatively to a transfer rumour linking Roberto Firmino with a move to Bayern Munich and AC Milan.

The Reds enjoyed a hugely impressive 5-0 win away to Watford on Saturday afternoon, going top of the Premier League for a few hours until Chelsea regained pole position.

Jurgen Klopp’s men produced a wonderful attacking display at Vicarage Road, and while Mohamed Salah once again made the headlines, it was a great day for Firmino, too.

The Brazilian bagged a hat-trick at Watfod, meaning he has now scored four Premier League goals in just two starts this season, suggesting that he is somewhere close to his best again.

Despite this resurgence in form, Calciomercato have claimed [via Anfield Edition on Twitter] that Bayern and Milan are both eyeing up a move for Firmino, with his current Liverpool deal expiring in 2023.

Mishra's six spin Haryana to victory

North ZoneAmit Mishra picked up career-best figures to bowl Haryana to a 125-run win over Jammu & Kashmir at the Jawaharlal Navoday Vidhyalay Stadium. Given a total of 302 to defend, Haryana’s new-ball pair struck early but it was Mishra who laughed all the way home. He struck immediately to dismiss Ian Dev Singh (42) and then bowled Feroz Ahmed for a duck next ball. With the rest of the attack maintaining the pressure on J&K, Mishra snapped up four wickets down the order to finish with 6 for 25. Haryana had made first use of the track and piled up a large total that was rather top-heavy. The No’s 3 and 4, Sunny Singh and Sumit Sharma, scored 82 and 84 respectively. Those were crucial knocks because the next best was 34 from Dhruv Singh. Samiullah Beigh, who had removed the openers for cheap and trapped Sharma lbw, took 4 for 57.Another six-wicket hero was India Under-19 fast bowler Siddarth Kaul, whose success set up Punjab’s victory over Himachal Pradesh in Dharamsala. Kaul was extremely difficult to face in the morning and quickly had the home side – who were already assured of a quarter-final berth – 16 for 4. Further blows left them 17 for 5, but Ajay Mannu’s 72 and former India offspinner Sarandeep Singh’s unbeaten 50 got the total to 205. That would prove a breeze for Punjab. Vishwas Bhalla, in his first game for Punjab ever, hit an unbeaten 108 from just 109 balls as the visitors eased home by eight wickets. He shared a 116-run stand for the second wicket with Uday Kaul (50) and collected 15 fours and two sixes.Aakash Chopra, Delhi’s captain, led from the front with a fine 95 to help defeat Services by six wickets in Una and book a berth in the quarterfinals. Chasing 232 to win, Delhi were given a winning hand from Chopra, who held up one end until he was dismissed short of a century. Along the way he was assisted by Virat Kohli (45) and Mithun Manhas (54). Earlier, Services scored 231 for 8 after winning the toss, riding on half-centuries by Yashpal Singh (57) and Tahir Khan (55). Yogesh Nagar was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi, claiming 3 for 55.Delhi and HP, with four wins each, have qualified from North Zone for the last-eight stage of the competition.East ZoneA pair of Das’, batsman Rashmi and new-ball bowler Preetamjit, starred in Orissa’s 29-run win over Assam in Eden Gardens. Rashmi’s unbeaten 96 from No. 6 helped smooth over a top and middle order wobble and get the total to 245 for 7. Backing his team-mate’s stellar effort, Preetamjit took four wickets to help bowl Assam out for 216 inside 48 overs. Having opted to bat, Orissa’s line-up was checked by Assam’s medium-pacers, especially Dhiraj Goswami. They were 66 for 4 before Natraj Behera (49) and Rashmi formed a small stand. After Behera’s dismissal at 111, a 102-run stand followed between Rashmi and Rakesh Mohanty (37). Rashmi finished on 96 from 98 balls, with 12 fours and a six. Assam were not allowed to form sizeable stands up front, but contributions from Deepak Sharma (88), Sarupam Purkayastha (32) and Goswami (37) appeared to have them back on track. Then Preetamjit dismissed Sharma and Goswami and Assam collapsed.Jharkhand picked up their second win of the tournament, defeating Tripura by three wickets with just four deliveries remaining in Kolkata. Their chase towards 237 had begun with a 118-run opening stand between the debutant Siddhartha Sinha (62) and Rameez Nemat (80), but Tripura struck blows to stem the momentum. Jharkhand lost Saurabh Tiwary first ball and slipped to 215 for 7 after 47 overs. It took some serious focus from No. 3 Ishank Jaggi, who remained not out on 46 from 50 balls.

Manchester United: Fans react to Fabrizio Romano post

Reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano has claimed the Manchester United board are still backing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And a number of Red Devils supporters have been reacting to his post on social media.

United have struggled in recent weeks, losing to Young Boys in the Champions League, West Ham in the Carabao Cup and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Former Liverpool man Didi Hamann has been the latest to share his prediction regarding the 48-year-old, believing it is only a matter of time until he is gone, but that doesn’t appear to be in the pipeline according to Romano.

Romano shared a link to his ‘Here We Go’ podcast on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, sharing a number of topics that were discussed. One of which was on the United boss, to which he tweeted ‘Man Utd board still backing Solskjaer’.
