Derbyshire’s England fast bowling hopeful Mark Footitt endured a frustrating day in front of National Selector James Whitaker as South African batsman Colin Ingram led a Glamorgan recovery at Chesterfield.Whitaker would have been impressed by the ball that removed Ben Wright for a duck but Footitt lacked the consistency that earned him a place on England’s recent pre-Ashes camp in Spain and ended with figures of 1 for 65 from 11 overs which included eight no balls. With Ingram counterattacking to score an unbeaten 73 with 16 fours , Glamorgan closed an opening day in which 64 overs were lost to rain and bad light on 167 for 3 with their hopes of winning five consecutive championship games for the first time still very much alive.Footitt had destroyed Glamorgan’s batting at Derby last season and the visitors must have feared the worst when Wayne Madsen won the toss and gave his attack first use of a green pitch on an overcast morning. The conditions looked ideal for bowling and Glamorgan were soon in trouble as Tony Palladino and Footitt reduced them to 10 for 2 in the third over. Jacques Rudolph played defensively at the ninth ball of the day only to see it spin back into his stumps and Whitaker’s journey to Queen’s Park was rewarded when Footitt had Wright caught behind off a rising ball.It was his 40th championship wicket of the season and his 165th victim in an unbroken run of 40 first-class matches since early May 2013 but his chances of adding to that were ended by the first of four stoppages which allowed only nine overs to be bowled until the light improved late in the afternoon. When play did finally resume, Bragg and Ingram took the total to 73 before Bragg lost his off stump to a ball from Taylor that nipped back but also kept low and Mark Wallace was forced to retire hurt when he was struck on the left hand in the seamer’s next over. But Ingram was playing with growing authority and when Footitt switched to the Pond End for one over, he cut him for successive fours before driving Shiv Thakor down the ground for another boundary.Footitt reverted to the Pavilion End and was driven past mid-on by Ingram for his 12th four which took him to a 64 ball 50 which was an impressive effort in the conditions. With Craig Meschede also profiting from some loose bowling, Ingram was able to look back on a good day for the Welsh county. “It was a tough one going on and off but I was really excited with the way the guys played positively. We did well to put runs on the board today and if we can come out tomorrow and bat well, we can seize the opportunity because if you bowl a good line and length, there’s enough for the bowlers.”Madsen admitted he was disappointed with the way his team ended the day. “We got off to really good start this morning but it was a very poor last session when he bowled too many boundary balls. I know it’s a quick scoring ground but we were poor in our execution and gave them too many boundaries.”

Bowling-heavy teams duel for first points

Pakistan and UAE will need their wobbling batting to take inspiration from their fabulous bowling to open their account in the Asia Cup

‘Amir is world-class’ – Waqar

Big PicturePakistan arrived late from the PSL party, misread the threat in the Mirpur pitch and fell to a new low. Essentially they had come in to work hungover. UAE, on the other hand, have been at their desk for a while, but they seem to have forgotten something. All is well when they bowl, but when it is their turn to bat, they are left a little red-faced. Like the nervous new recruit who’d turned up at the office with a pristine shirt and no pants.Shahid Afridi and Waqar Younis are aware of Pakistan’s problems, though neither chose to lay blame. The pitches in the UAE had been slow but straightforward otherwise; spinners were the major threat and once they were handled, batting became simple enough. Not so in Bangladesh, where the new ball keeps zinging off a green pitch. Pakistan were still holding on against India until a couple of run-outs totally derailed them. If they can be a little more careful, runs are still on offer as the innings wears on.Mohammad Amir’s performance against India can’t be called a revelation because he was always a freakish fast-bowling talent. But he could have lost that talent after five years in cricketing exile. The fact that he hasn’t is cause for Pakistan to stay upbeat.UAE captain Amjad Javed had expressed a hope that his own batsmen take inspiration from how his bowlers have set up matches for victory. Pakistan’s batsmen should be thinking along similar lines. If they’d made 30 more runs than the 83 they had crumbled to on Saturday, who knows what could have happened? It should help that Pakistan now play a lower-profile team than India. Minus the pressure, they can work on getting used to conditions and ticking the boxes that are required to win matches. UAE, at that point where they are here for the memories, will try their best to sneak in a few trick questions.Form guidePakistan LLLWL (last five completed matches)
UAE LLWWWWatch out forPakistan’s batting needs a steady hand, more so considering they’ve got a few players in the top order who are still new to international cricket. Shoaib Malik can be the man to take up that responsibility. He is a former captain and he has played over 300 matches across formats for his country. He’s also known to be partial towards singles and twos to begin with but can flex his muscles later on.He has helped put UAE’s results on the right track since taking over captaincy of the T20 team, so would it be too much to ask Amjad Javed to do the same to their batting? He is noted for his ability as a powerful ball-striker, but he has a century in first-class cricket, and a List A highest of 164 off 117 balls. For the T20 fan, he struck 76 off 42 balls against Scotland only three weeks ago. Maybe he should try batting up the order.Team newsFour fast bowlers seems the best way forward for Pakistan, so Mohammad Nawaz may still be sidelined. Imad Wasim, although a left-arm spinner too, may not be excluded so easily considering he can be a handy middle-order batsman. Perhaps he might come into the XI in place of Khurram Manzoor.Pakistan (probable): 1 Mohammad Hafeez, 2 Sharjeel Khan, 3 Shoaib Malik, 4 Umar Akmal, 5 Imad Wasim, 6 Shahid Afridi (capt), 7 Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), 8 Wahab Riaz, 9 Mohammad Sami, 10 Mohammad Amir, 11 Mohammad IrfanUAE have had major issues with their batting, as totals of 82 and 115 for 9 suggest, but there are not many options in their squad.UAE (probable): 1 Rohan Mustafa, 2 Muhammad Kaleem, 3 Mohammad Shahzad, 4 Shaiman Anwar, 5 Mohammad Usman, 6 Amjad Javed (capt), 7 Swapnil Patil (wk), 8 Saqlain Haider, 9 Fahad Tariq, 10 Mohammad Naveed, 11 Ahmed RazaPitch and conditionsOh, don’t act like you’ve not loved the fast bowlers having a little fun. Mirpur has been sporting and good batsmen seem to like it too. Virat Kohli, last night, said Mohammad Amir’s spell was the kind a batsman to play and prove himself with.Stats and trivia This will be the first time Pakistan and UAE face each other in T20 internationals. They have played three ODIs before in 1994, 1996 and 2015 Afridi has 66 sixes from 85 T20I innings. Three more can take him up to fourth place on the all-time list, beating David Warner’s 67 and Martin Guptill’s 68Quotes”When we expect our players to do well, it’s frankly at the Associate level… Pakistan has a fast-bowling attack that can run a team down really quickly.”
“It was tough to bat yesterday, but we had miscalculated somewhat, because we had no idea about the conditions. It wasn’t a typical T20 wicket where you look at 170 or 180. Obviously, you learn from your mistakes, and that’s why we are here to practice.”

Batsmen fire Pakistan to 55-run victory

Pakistan’s batting line-up, which had mis-fired frequently in recent matches, finally came together in their first match of the World T20 2016 to overpower Bangladesh by 55 runs

The Report by Mohammad Isam16-Mar-2016

Chappell: Afridi looked relaxed when he came to bat

Pakistan’s batting line-up, which had misfired frequently in recent matches, finally came together in their first match of the World T20 2016 to overpower Bangladesh by 55 runs. Fifties from Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez, and Shahid Afridi’s 19-ball 49 propelled Pakistan to 201 for 5, a total which proved too steep for a side that had beaten them in their last two T20I encounters. This was only the second time Pakistan scored more than 200 in a T20 international, and the previous instance – in April 2008 – was also against Bangladesh.Pakistan opted to bat first and, right from the start, kept their foot on the gas. They took 18 runs in three separate overs and failed to hit a four or a six in only two overs in their innings – the 9th and 14th – bowled by Shakib Al Hasan and Sabbir Rahman. Pakistan’s opening pair of Shehzad and Sharjeel Khan was the fourth the side have tried out in T20Is this year, and Sharjeel set the tone, smashing two sixes and a four off Al-Amin Hossain in the second over.Sharjeel fell in the next over to Arafat Sunny but Hafeez walked in and found his groove immediately, with a straight six down the ground off his second ball. Shehzad, who had struck a serene cover drive off Taskin Ahmed in the first over, then pushed the same bowler through midwicket, before pasting Sunny over extra-cover. His first three fours were pleasing shots, even as Hafeez blasted boundaries down the ground.By the end of the Powerplay, Hafeez and Shehzad had similar scores before the latter pulled away and raced to his fifty off 35 balls. Shehzad fell in the 14th over, pulling Sabbir to the deep midwicket fielder for 52 off 39 balls with eight fours. His wicket ended a 95-run, second-wicket partnership that, through a combination of big hits and clever strike rotation, did not let the Bangladesh fielders relax.Afridi promoted himself to No 4 to take advantage of the start. After Hafeez had reached his fifty in the 15th over, bowled by Mashrafe Mortaza, Afridi smacked two fours and a six off consecutive balls to produce an 18-run over. The pair took another 18 runs off Al-Amin’s next over, with Hafeez striking two fours and Afridi a straight six.Hafeez fell for 64 off 42 balls, immediately after striking his seventh four. He was caught brilliantly by Soumya Sarkar at the deep midwicket boundary. The fielder grabbed the ball close to the boundary rope; the momentum took him over the line so he lobbed the ball in the air, came back on to the field and completed the catch. The agile effort was the only solace for Bangladesh in the first innings.Afridi unfurled the big shots in the overs that followed, including a four and a six off Shakib in the penultimate over. He went into the last over on 49 off 18 balls, on the brink of the record for the fastest fifty by a Pakistan batsman in T20Is, but he holed out to the deep square leg fielder and, in the process, also missed his first T20I half-century since June 2012.Sarkar’s joy from that smart catch was short-lived as Mohammad Amir uprooted his off stump on the third ball of their chase. Sabbir Rahman, who started off with a sweetly timed four past point, made sure, however, that Bangladesh didn’t fall off quickly. He struck fours off Amir and Wahab Riaz through the off side, but fell in the final Powerplay over, bowled by an Afridi delivery that came on with the arm.Tamim had sent the first ball of that Afridi over for a six into the stands beyond midwicket and in the next over, he lifted Malik over extra-cover for another six. His third attempt at clearing the boundary, however, ended up as a simple catch to Imad Wasim at midwicket. Tamim has been Bangladesh’s best batsman in the tournament so far and his dismissal for a 20-ball 24 snuffed out most of Bangladesh’s hopes of chasing 202.Bangladesh have never made more than 87 runs in the last ten overs of a successful T20I chase, so getting 133 today was well beyond their reach. The pressure of an asking rate of over 13 got to Mahmudullah, who played a slog-sweep to Sharjeel at deep square leg in the 11th over, and Bangladesh slid further.Shakib was still at the crease but from a position of 71 for 4, he had to tackle the Pakistan attack as well as Mushfiqur Rahim’s frustrating batting at the other end. Between the 11th and 17th overs, Mushfiqur played and missed plenty of times. In two separate overs, Shakib struck a four off the first ball but Mushfiqur couldn’t score off the remaining deliveries. Mushfiqur also did not turn as much of the strike over to Shakib and the required run rate soared out of their reach. Mushfiqur became Amir’s second wicket in the 17th over.Shakib had been dropped by Shehzad at midwicket on 33 and he went on to reach his sixth T20I fifty in the last over.

Sánchez converteu a cobrança.

Onus on top four to carry our batting – Warner

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner believes his side hasn’t played to potential over the last two years, but hopes they will be able to overcome two successive losses while facing Mumbai Indians on Monday

David Warner, the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, believes his side has failed to work out the “complete game” in the last two IPL seasons, but hopes his team will be able to “gel together” in their next match, against Mumbai Indians on Monday.Sunrisers have lost both their matches so far and sit at the bottom of the points table. Last year, they had failed to qualify for the knockouts, finishing third from the bottom with seven wins and as many losses. The biggest positive was the form of Warner, who was the leading run-scorer with 562 runs from 14 innings.Warner remains the team’s go-to batsman especially in the absence of Yuvraj Singh and Kane Williamson, both of whom are nursing injuries and likely to miss a fair amount of matches in the first half. But Warner has tried to make up for those losses. He hit a quickfire half-century in a valiant chase of 228 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their season opener. But against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, Warner and his opening partner, Shikhar Dhawan, faltered to leave Sunrisers precariously placed at 36 for 3 in the first six overs. It was a passage which Tom Moody, the coach, felt cost them the match. And Warner agreed.”In hindsight we didn’t bat as well as we planned,” Warner said. “Chasing 228 is always a big ask at any venue, but we know in Bangalore 200 gets run down a lot. We just weren’t good enough on the day. Then, in the other game, we didn’t start well – we lost three wickets in the first six. That is not ideal. You need 160-170 to defend at least.”Our bowlers have sort of missed the mark in the last two games – I felt that execution was not there. We bowled probably one or two bad overs last night, but were good upfront. We still haven’t had the complete game. Last year and this year we still haven’t worked out the complete game, the batters haven’t worked well with the bowlers. We have to try and gel and work together as much as we can.”Interestingly, 44% of Sunrisers’ runs this season have been scored by Warner and Eoin Morgan. Unlike some of the other teams, Sunrisers have lacked firepower in the middle. But Warner felt it was the responsibility of the top four to carry the team through.”You are not going to get the depth as you like,” he said. “You have to use your resources smartly, which is very challenging. I don’t think we have a weakness there [in the lower order]. It is about getting our top four to bat through ten overs. That is where the runs come – top four is where the bulk of the runs come and I guarantee you No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 will do their job very well then. We have to work on how we are going to get our balance right, how we can use our Indian players well.”Warner was mindful of the damage a third successive loss could do early in their campaign. “We have got to really come out firing,” he said. “This game is going to be the game where we gel together. They are going to be hungry as well because they are in the same position as us. We have to be switched on and make sure we keep executing our plans, we can’t keep talking about it, we have to do it on the day.”Even as he offered perspective on the team’s shortcomings, Warner didn’t shy away from pointing out his own mistakes, including his dismissal against Knight Riders. He had backed away to cut Umesh Yadav, but was too early into the stroke and handed a catch to short cover to fall for 13 in the fourth over.”I have got out a fair bit like that,” Warner admitted. “You pick up the ball so early, but you try and place the ball. We always tell ourselves when we are trying to place the ball that you actually don’t go through with the shot and it sort of just pops up like that. I always walk off and wonder ‘why did I do that?’ Because it is hard when you are out there; some people understand that and some don’t. When you are out there, sometimes you go through with it and sometimes it just stops and you wonder ‘man, how do I get out of that?’ I don’t even know sometimes.”What hurt Sunrisers was the timing of his dismissal, which came four balls after Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed. “I was disappointed with the way I got out,” he continued. “I have had success doing the same thing against Morne Morkel. But the wicket from his end was bouncing. At the other end Yadav was getting it to skid through. I know there is a height difference, but still there was a little bit of inconsistency. That is where you talk about giving yourself some time. I know I did not give myself the time. I was a bit rushed, but sometimes in the game that gets you going, sometimes it can be your downfall as well.”

Semifinal 1 – Barcelona 2 x 0 Borussia Dortmund

Muricy escalou o time com Zetti, Fabão, Lugano e Richarlyson; Souza, Mineiro, Josué e Jorge Wagner; Denilson, Dagoberto e Aloísio.

Roger, Bordon, Leandro Guerreiro, Cicinho, Muller, Careca e Silas entraram no decorrer do jogo.

Souza, Muller, Silas, Careca e Ronaldão entraram no decorrer desta partida.
