Lanning’s absence from the ongoing Women’s Ashes meant she slipped from first to fourth place. Ellyse Perry and New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite occupy the second and third spots respectively

India’s ODI captain Mithali Raj superseded Meg Lanning to claim the top spot on the ICC rankings for batsmen in women’s ODIs. Lanning missed out on the ODI leg of the ongoing multi-format Women’s Ashes as part of her rehabilitation plan following her shoulder surgery and slipped from first to fourth position. After the conclusion of the World Cup, Raj trailed Lanning by 10 points and led Australia allrounder Ellyse Perry by 12. While India haven’t played international cricket since the final of the tournament on July 23, Lanning’s absence from the three-match ODI series, which is also Australia’s first ODI assignment in the second cycle of the ICC Women’s Championship, meant she dropped three places. Perry and New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite climbed one place each to claim the second and third spots respectively.England wicketkeeper-batsman Sarah Taylor, too, made the move up, climbing two places to the 10th rank on the back of the 129 runs she scored in the series.Among ODI bowlers, Australia medium-pacer Megan Schutt moved 13 places to a career-best fourth position courtesy the 10 wickets – including two four-wicket hauls – she bagged in the series. England seamer Anya Shrubsole, who was adjudged Player of the Match in the World Cup final in July, gained one slot to reach a career-best sixth position.Australia’s 2-1 victory over world champions England helped them regain the top ranking after England had climbed to No. 1 after the annual update earlier in October. New Zealand, who finished fifth in the World Cup, are set to play their first ODI series since the global event, starting October 31 against Pakistan in the UAE. They are currently ranked third with 118 points, leading India by two points.

Liverpool Set To Make "Top-Class" £34m Maestro Their Top Target

Liverpool are now set to make Fluminense midfielder Andre their priority target after having their latest bid for Romeo Lavia turned down, and reports from Brazil have revealed when a move could happen.

Is Romeo Lavia signing for Liverpool?

The Reds have already had three bids for Lavia knocked back this summer, most recently having a £45m proposal turned down by Southampton, with the Championship club standing firm over their £50m valuation of the central midfielder.

Chelsea are also said to be keeping an eye on the 19-year-old's situation, so Jurgen Klopp's side risk missing out if they do not come to an agreement with the Saints in the near future, with talks over a deal still currently ongoing.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that another offer has already been made, after Southampton rejected the most recent bid, however he does not specify how much has been put on the table in Liverpool's new and improved proposal.

Jacobs also suggests the Merseysiders will be willing to back out of the deal, if the Saints continue to be stubborn about their asking price, saying: "As ever with #LFC they always have a top-end limit and if that number isn't accepted tend to walk away."

However, according to reports from Brazil (via Sport Witness), the Reds are now set to make Andre their top target, as a result of their struggles in getting a deal for Lavia over the line, with contacts set to resume soon.

The Brazilian is poised to become Liverpool's "plan A" once again, and they are set to push to secure his signature in the coming days, although it will not be an easy move to orchestrate.

Firstly, the Fluminense ace is protected by a €40m (£34m) release clause included in his contract, so it would be a sizeable outlay for a player unproven outside of South America.

Not only that, but his current club are unwilling to lose the 22-year-old in the middle of the season, and they will only be open to negotiations if he can complete the move in January, should the release clause not be paid.

How good is Andre?

The maestro has received high praise from football talent scout Jacek Kulig, who likened him to Iniesta after a solid performance against Corinthians, while he has also described him as a "top-class roaming playmaker".

That said, the 5 foot 9 midfielder has not been particularly adept at setting up chances for his teammates over the past year, failing to register a single assist, and while he is fantastic at passing, he does not have the right attributes to be an alternative for Lavia.

andre-liverpool-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

Over the past year, the Southampton star has averaged far more tackles, interceptions, blocks and clearances per 90, and he also has Premier League experience, making 29 top-flight appearances for the Saints last season.

Lavia may be a little more expensive than Andre, but there is clear evidence that he is a better player, and Liverpool should just bite the bullet and pay the £50m, with the new Premier League season rapidly approaching.

Chelsea Have "Outstanding" £34k-p/w Titan On Their Shortlist

Gregor Kobel is on Chelsea’s goalkeeper shortlist, but that depends on the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga after a fresh update emerged…

What’s the latest on Gregor Kobel to Chelsea?

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are interested in signing the Borussia Dortmund shot-stopper if the Spaniard chooses to depart.

The article states that Kepa is open to joining Bayern and the Blues are unlikely to stand in his way, with Thomas Tuchel driving the interest in his former player.

The Bavarian Giants are thought to be preparing a loan offer that would include an option to buy next summer.

However, Real Madrid are also said to be weighing up a similar proposal after confirmation of a long-term knee injury to Thibaut Courtois.

This would open the door for a new goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge and provide some competition to Robert Sanchez, who recently joined from Brighton for £25m.

Therefore, Kobel’s transfer to Chelsea is a serious possibility, with Mauricio Pochettino also targeting Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Would Gregor Kobel be a good signing for Chelsea?

The 25-year-old titan has been at Dortmund since 2021, firmly establishing as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, appearing in 56 of the club’s last 68 Bundesliga games.

Last season, Kobel kept 11 clean sheets in 27 league appearances, resulting in a clean sheet percentage of 40.7%, which is the highest in the division of any goalkeeper with over 20 appearances.

Across the campaign, he made 61 saves from inside the box, prevented 2.88 goals, and averaged 3.3 saves per game, as per Sofascore.

Moreover, the former Stuttgart star also ranks impressively across the continent, sitting within the best 18% for touches per 90 and save percentage per 90, as well as the highest 10% for clean sheet percentage and percentage of penalty kicks that were saved.

Roman Weidenfeller, who spent 16 years as Dortmund’s goalkeeper, hailed Kobel’s maturity and potential, saying:

“At such a young age, he has already matured into a leader on the pitch. For me, he’s an outstanding goalkeeper who still has huge potential.

“Gregor is excellent on the line, very strong with his feet and confident with his control of the penalty area. He is a leader at BVB. On top of that, he’s a talented youngster.”

Kobel is a worthy replacement for Arrizabalaga, whose Chelsea career has been constantly scrutinised since his record-breaking £71.6m move in 2018.

His first two years in England were a disaster, and at the end of the 2019/20 season, he had the lowest save percentage in the league (53.47%) and conceded 12 goals more than the average keeper would be expected to.

Kepa Arrizabalaga Chelsea

Arrizabalaga’s lack of composure, quality, and presence meant he was replaced by Edouard Mendy in 2020, who conceded just 29 goals in 44 games in his debut season, whilst also equalling the record of keeping the most clean sheets in a Champions League campaign (nine), which the Blues eventually won.

However, Mendy’s sudden and unexpected drop-off, followed by a swift departure to Saudi Arabia means that Arrizabalaga has found himself back into the fold almost by chance.

Back in 2020, legendary striker Alan Shearer said that Chelsea won't achieve their ultimate ambition of winning a league with him between the sticks, whilst Ian Wright feels he simply “makes too many mistakes.”

The signing of the £34k-per-week titan would herald an exciting new era and would create some tasty competition with Sanchez.

Tottenham Gifted Transfer Boost In Pursuit Of "Exciting" Kane Replacement

Following the exit of Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur have been left without a natural goal scorer and are running out of time to find a replacement, with the summer transfer window coming to an end in just over a week.

The Lilywhites have, however, received a boost in their pursuit of KAA Gent forward Gift Orban, according to reports.

What's the latest on Gift Orban to Tottenham Hotspur?

Gent's Gift Orban

It was previously reported that Spurs scouts were left blown away by Orban, and believe that the forward is the key man to replace Kane this summer. Now, the North London club have received another positive boost in the saga.

According to Het Nieuwsblad, via Sport Witness, Gent actually now want to sell their forward to Spurs this summer, and would even prefer to see Orban depart over his teammate Hugo Cuypers.

Given Gent's reported valuation of just €30m (£33m), too, it's a deal that Spurs should be able to fund following the sale of Kane to Bayern Munich for a reported £86m this summer.

As things stand, with the end of the transfer window edging closer and closer, Ange Postecoglou remains without a clinical goalscorer, but Orban is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Should Tottenham Hotspur sign Gift Orban?

To say that replacing club-record goalscorer Kane is no easy task would be an incredible understatement. That said, welcoming 21-year-old Orban would go a long way in filling the gaping hole left behind by Spurs' star man.

Orban is a player that should only get better, given his age, and the potential that he has so far shown in his relatively young career. Last season, the Gent forward scored 20 goals in 22 games in all competitions to make his mark in Belgium. And if people think that was just a fluke, so far this season, he has found the back of the net a total of six times in six games.

No matter which way you look at it, Orban knows where the back of the net is.

It is his form over the last year that has resulted in several pieces of praise, including from journalist Lolade Adewuyi, who said: "Arrived in Ghent to watch two of the most exciting young Nigerian talents play tonight – Gift Orban for KAA Gent and Victor Boniface of Royale Union Saint Gilloise. The Belgian league is a breeding ground for Nigerian players and these boys are hugely popular here."

So far, Postecoglou's Spurs side feel like a fitting next destination for a promising young striker, too, especially with the way they took the game to Erik ten Hag's Manchester United side, defeating the Red Devils 2-0 in comfortable fashion.

Add a player like Orban to the side that brushed United aside, and all of a sudden, Spurs could be in with a shout to qualify for the Champions League once more.

Of course, it's a long season ahead, but replacing Kane could be imperative to how the Lilywhites' season goes. As the window comes to a close, Spurs could be one of the most interesting sides to watch.

Chelsea Close To Move For Own Rice In 5 ft 10 Ace Who’s The "Genuine Article"

Despite Chelsea’s new hierarchy remaining in the infancy of its ownership, we have already become accustomed to its eccentric, ridiculous, and untameable transfer dealings.

Their hijack of Mykhailo Mudryk from Arsenal and the deadline-day swoop of Enzo Fernandez for a record-breaking fee of £106.8m in January appeared unbeatable in terms of drama and chaos.

But, this club is addicted to headlines and a realisation over the lack of midfield options has festered into a desperate spree that could see the Blues hit new heights in their spending…

Moises Caicedo is about to break Premier League history…

What’s the latest on Moises Caicedo to Chelsea?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ‘increasingly confident’ of getting the Caicedo deal done on Saturday, following a round of positive talks with Brighton.

Their official bid won’t be less than Liverpool's £110m bid that was submitted on Friday.

Read the latest Chelsea transfer news HERE…

The Reds had agreed to a fee with the Seagulls, but the midfielder informed all parties that he only wants to join the West London outfit.

Chelsea play Liverpool on Sunday and the former hope to unveil the combative Ecuadorean at Stamford Bridge – which would be antagonistic flex of their overwhelming financial muscle and unexplainable transfer pull.

Why would Moises Caicedo be a good signing for Chelsea?

Back in January 2021, Brighton made the assuming purchase of Caicedo for £4.5m from Independiente del Valle, and they set to make over £100m profit on a player with just 45 Premier League appearances.

But, the fact he’s amassed such an esteemed reputation in a short space of time is a testament to his elite quality.

Even before he featured in English football, Tim Vickery predicted the 21-year-old to have a glistening future, saying: “He is a terrific athlete who makes football look easy. A box-to-box midfielder.

"That kind of box-to-box midfielder that's very much in the tradition of the England game. Strong, quick, intelligent and cool. He really does look like the genuine article."

Caicedo has supported Vickery’s statement by tremendously excelling within his age group as last season, he won possession in the midfield third the most times (142) of any U21 player.

The £60k-per-week titan also deputised as an emergency right-back, starring in clean-sheet victories over Arsenal and Manchester United. This led to extraordinary praise from Roberto De Zerbi, who said that Caicedo is a “top, top player” that can “play everywhere.”

As recognition for his boundless versatility, consistency, and limitless potential, the 32-cap international was named Brighton’s Player of the Season for 2022/23.

If Mauricio Pochettino manages to complete this signing, it could be on the same level of importance and magnitude as Declan Rice to Arsenal.

Declan Rice Arsenal

Both players occupied formidably efficient defensive midfielder roles that impeccably protect the defence. Moreover, they are also blessed with supreme technical ability, which means they are two of the world’s most talented and accomplished pivots.

Caicedo and Rice rank very closely for pass completion per 90 (88.6% vs 86.4%), progressive passes per 90 (6.41 vs 6.64), and interceptions per 90 (1.56 vs 1.78) – these figures mean they rank within at least the highest 24% in Europe’s top five leagues among their positional peers for these metrics.

The 5 foot 10 ace would be a huge statement for Chelsea and he will target a long-lasting and trophy-laden legacy at the home of the two-time European Champions.

Wolves Set To Sign £4m "Unsung Hero" For O’Neil – Report

Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to sign West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell this summer, and a new report has revealed when the deal is likely to happen.

Is Aaron Cresswell leaving West Ham?

The Premier League veteran’s contract is set to expire in less than a year meaning that the ongoing window is David Moyes’ final big opportunity to cash in should he not want to lose his longest-serving player for free, and he’s been heavily linked with a move to Molineux.

The Old Gold reportedly offered a contract to the left-back after holding positive negotiations, and whilst a deal was never agreed, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor spoke to GiveMeSport to deliver an update on the situation. He said:

“Obviously, from Cresswell's perspective, he wants to get a longer contract. At Wolves, it was a two-year contract on offer, so I can see why he probably wants to move. I do expect him to leave, but West Ham need to bring in some players.”

Reporter Alan Nixon has since claimed that the 33-year-old has asked to be sold so that he can move up north and be closer to his family, and despite Fosun having so far only tabled a £2.5m bid when his price tag has been set at £4m, club chiefs sound confident that an agreement will be reached before September 1.

Are Wolves signing Aaron Cresswell?

According to Football Insider, Wolves are "expected to complete the signing" of Cresswell in the "final weeks" of the summer transfer window.

The Midlands outfit are "keen to up their bid" regardless of Julen Lopetegui being replaced by Gary O'Neil, and it's stated that members of the hierarchy have personally "targeted" the defender as a result of the experience he has in the top-flight.

England's former international is "being pushed towards the exit door" by West Ham, who will enter the market for a new left-back no matter whether their player stays or goes before next month.

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell.

Wolves will know that Cresswell isn’t getting any younger, but as stated above, his vast experience is an attribute that the board appreciate, and having been dubbed an “unsung hero” by talkSPORT pundit and former professional footballer Tony Cascarino, the left-back would be an excellent addition for O’Neil, regardless of whether he'd be a regular starter or not.

The Liverpool-born talent is extremely strong in the attacking aspect of his game having posted 92 goal contributions (69 assists and 23 goals) throughout his career, alongside whipping 133 crosses into the opposition’s box in the top-flight last season, which was the second-highest total throughout his squad, via FBRef, showing his desire to burst down the flank and create chances for his teammates.

Cresswell, who recently won the Europa Conference League, also shares the same agent, Unique Sports Group, as both Craig Dawson and Daniel Bentley, so this existing connection that his representative has to the club could give them a small advantage should they continue to try and get a deal over the line in the coming weeks.

Man United Takeover Updates: Newspapers and Sky Sports Drop Major Claims

Manchester United could finally be about to change hands if updates released in the press this week are to be believed, but there is conflicting information emerging from all angles.

What's the latest on the takeover situation at Manchester United?

Last year, the Glazers put Manchester United up for sale and detailed that they were exploring "strategic alternatives for the club" in the hope of being able to "enhance the club’s future growth", as per The Independent.

At the time, the Red Devils' ownership confirmed that they would look into a multitude of options as part of the process, including “new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the company”.

Two main candidates have emerged to take over Manchester United and bring the Glazers' controversial tenure at Old Trafford to an end, which has of course contributed to periods of regression on and off the pitch for the Premier League giants, particularly in the last decade.

Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani has and his consortium Nine Two Foundation have been heavily involved with all stages of the process and would like to claim outright control at Old Trafford – alongside clearing debt at Manchester United and investing in both the playing staff and club infrastructure – as per The Mirror.

On the other hand, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his firm INEOS have also been in contention to acquire custody of Manchester United and are proposing a majority takeover that would allow two of the Glazers, Joel and Avram, to hold minority stakeholding positions in the club moving forward. Ratcliffe has also promised to wipe out the Red Devils' debt and either renovate or reconstruct Old Trafford.

Despite the uncertainty over the future of Manchester United, Erik Ten Hag has still been busy in the transfer market, bringing in Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana for considerable sums of money, as per Transfermarkt.

Who will win the takeover battle at Manchester United?

According to The Sun, Sheikh Jassim looks to have won the fight to take over at Manchester United for £6 billion and could enter office at Old Trafford as early as mid-October.

An official announcement may take place next week according to their report while Jassim and his associates are doing their 'due diligence' regarding Manchester United before being installed at the expense of the much-maligned Glazer family.

100% of the club will fall into the hands of Sheikh Jassim and company, while the Qatari businessman will not take any dividend payments from the Red Devils, which is a practice the Glazers have engaged in since taking control in 2005.

However, Sky Sports have since claimed virtually the total opposite, claiming on Twitter less than 24 hours later: "Sources close to the Qatari bid believe the process has stalled amid concerns that the Glazer family are not sure they want to sell the club."

Sheikh Jassim has made five separate bids to try and succeed the Glazers at Old Trafford and could look to prioritise renovating Carrington and Old Trafford alongside clearing debts at the club that have reached levels of nearly £1 billion, as per Sky Sports.

Of course, Manchester United have been affected by Financial Fair Play issues this year and are also struggling to complete the rest of their summer business unless player sales are solicited, which are two problems that could be completely wiped out once new ownership arrives in the North West, but it remains to be seen which source is closer to the truth.

Don't see myself making a WI comeback – Dwayne Bravo

Dwayne Bravo says it is unlikely he will play for West Indies again, and sees his future solely in the various short-format leagues around the world. After tearing his hamstring in Australia’s Big Bash League in December 2016, the Trinidadian allrounder endured a lengthy absence from all cricket. Bravo has not played for West Indies since the T20 series against Pakistan in the preceding September, and believes his chances of a recall into the team are slim.”I am looking at these tournaments as a chance to continue playing cricket,” Bravo said. “As long as I can play cricket, I am happy. As far as internationals are concerned, I have been dropped from the West Indies team.”I was dropped while I was fit. I don’t think now, at 34, it would make any sense coming back. I just need to see what is left for me, for my fans to see Dwayne Bravo playing cricket. That is my priority.”Bravo has not played Test cricket for West Indies in seven years, and had not featured in an ODI since 2014. He says his absence from the game at the start of this year hurt, but he was happy to return to the T20 circuit.Currently in Sharjah for the T10 League, Bravo is part of the Maratha Arabians as a late recruit, following Kumar Sangakkara’s withdrawal from the tournament. Earlier this year, injury forced Bravo to miss the 2017 IPL, but he has gone on to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).”I didn’t play for nine months [seven months],” Bravo said. “That is a lot. I missed the game and I have to be careful now. Playing BPL, we made it to the semi-finals. Unfortunately we didn’t make it all the way through, but I am happy to be playing again.”Bravo has played more T20 matches (364) than anyone other than his former West Indies team-mate Kieron Pollard (399). Perhaps predictably, Bravo has also adapted quickly to the even shorter 10-over format.Bravo, who was one of the victims in Shahid Afridi’s hat-trick on the opening night of the competition, found his range with the ball on day two in Sharjah. He took 2 for 12 off his two overs, as Maratha Arabians secured their first win in the competition against Team Sri Lankan Cricket.National
