Chelsea Transfer Update: Journalist Reveals Plans For Rest Of Window

Chelsea have had a summer to remember when it comes to signing players and it looks like fans could be treated to yet more spending, following a key update from journalist Simon Johnson.

Do Chelsea need more signings?

The Blues have made a disappointing start to life under Mauricio Pochettino, with their Premier League campaign flattering to deceive in the opening two matches.

While the 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool on the opening weekend was an adequate result, Sunday's 3-1 defeat away to West Ham was a shock to the system. Chelsea may have dominated chunks of proceedings, but they didn't create enough opportunities and their finishing wasn't good enough when chances did arrive.

The west Londoners may have spent big this summer, most notably signing the likes of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Nicolas Jackson, but they still look short of elite quality currently, especially in attacking areas.

There is now less than two weeks of the summer transfer window remaining and failure to bring in one more wide option in the final third could ultimately prove costly.

Will Chelsea sign another attacker?

According to The Athletic's Johnson, Chelsea are still eyeing up another attacking signing this summer, although a new No.9 is out of the question, despite Christopher Nkunku's long-term injury after arriving from Borussia Dortmund:

"With the transfer window closing on September 1, there is still time for the chequebook to be used again. Chelsea have been looking at signing another attacking player anyway, but not a tried and tested No 9 as such.

"A move for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise broke down last week, while Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson was put on the wish list last month."

While rival fans may balk at Chelsea's need to bring in another attacker, given the money they have already spent since the end of last season, there is no question that they look short of reliable options in that area of the pitch.

Raheem Sterling was superb in a losing cause against West Ham, arguably producing his best performance yet in a Blues shirt, but he has been a disappointing signing so far, and his very best days could possibly be behind him.

Meanwhile, Mykhailo Mudryk continues to experience a torrid time of things, failing to score in 19 Chelsea appearances and missing a glorious opportunity late in the day at West Ham, while Noni Madueke also hasn't had the desired impact.

A move for Michael Olise has fallen through after he signed a new deal with Crystal Palace, so signing him is out of the question, but someone of a similar ilk could be ideal, in terms of a young wide talent who can combine pace, trickery and a steady flow of end product.

It looks as though Rennes winger Jeremy Doku is a possible option to come in and ease the Blues' woes, and the Belgium international could be a brilliant addition, having scored 12 goals and chipped in with a further ten assists for the Ligue 1 side to date.

PSL franchises concerned over Pakistan players in T10 League

A number of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have raised concerns over the PCB’s decision to allow contracted players to play in the T10 League, which starts in the UAE on Thursday

ESPNcricinfo staff13-Dec-2017A number of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have raised concerns over the PCB’s decision to allow contracted players to play in the T10 League, which starts in the UAE on Thursday. The franchises fear the league could emerge as a potential threat to the value of the PSL itself. A central point in their concern also revolves around Salman Iqbal, owner of the Karachi Kings franchise, who is president of the T10 League and whose broadcast company is part of the management, while Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar was not allowed permission by the PCB to launch his own league in association with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).Current PSL champions Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi was most trenchant in his criticism, who as champions have the most to lose if the PSL is adversely affected. “It’s the PCB’s responsibility to improve the PSL and protect the stake of Pakistan cricket,” Afridi told ESPNcricinfo.”Franchises are not the rights holders of the league but we are the important entity running the show and signed to do so for ten years. We worked so hard to build this brand collectively. If the PCB will not protect our interest, then who will?”How can the PCB undermine its own league and kill the hype of its own tournament by allowing top contracted players to play in another league taking place at the same venue just a month earlier? It might work well for some individuals but it does not help Pakistan cricket at all. There is a value of our players and you cannot sell out our players in bulk. There is a big possibility it will come back to bite us.”PCB chairman Najam Sethi had broached the subject first in a routine meeting with PSL stakeholders last month. He reportedly asked each team if they had any concerns, only to found out that a majority of the teams did. A basic presentation by Iqbal was rebutted by Islamabad United owner Ali Naqvi, while Lahore Qalandars questioned the support given to a league mainly backed by non-Pakistani investors.During another meeting, there was a suggestion that a vote be carried out to determine a future course of action, only for the idea to be dropped after the majority of franchises expressed reservations in allowing players to participate in the T10 League. Sethi, however, had the authority to take the final decision as PCB chairman, and allowed players to participate. He assured teams that they would continue to monitor the T10 League and promised the PCB would withdraw its support should the PSL be threatened.A PCB spokesman said the PCB had been assured there was “no conflict of interest with the PSL”. He also said the date of the T10 tournament had been changed from February to December after the PCB said the former was not acceptable to them. “The organisers wanted the PCB to issue NOCs to Pakistan players free of cost, like it’s done for other boards. But since no reciprocity was involved in their case, the PCB demanded a hefty fee in exchange and obtained $400,000.”Lahore Qalandars – as well as Peshawar – also confirmed that they were indirectly approached at a very early stage in the inception of the league and offered to become a party in it. But the business proposition was turned down because it was understood to be counter-productive to their brand. Iqbal was himself initially against allowing Pakistan players in the T10 League.”There are genuine concerns raised by a majority of PSL teams and the issue needs to be sorted with due diligence,” a Qalandars official told ESPNcricinfo. “Allowing marquee players into other leagues that have the potential to undermine the PSL is a point of concern.”Quetta’s owner, meanwhile, had been seeking permission from the PCB to buy a team in the Emirates League in the UAE but had not received permission. During the meeting, the owner of Gladiators didn’t object to supporting the T10 League, but underlined the PCB’s “double standard” in not allowing one owner to buy a team, and discouraging another for associating with other leagues in the UAE.Not least of the impacts of the league will be that the final round of Pakistan’s premier first-class tournament, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, will be played without a number of big names who will be playing in the UAE this weekend. Pakistan players in the T10 League include Sarfraz Ahmed, Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Amir, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Hasan Ali.The final QeA round begins on December 15 with eight teams competing for a place in the final.

Spurs: Ange Postecoglou Zeroes In On Kane Heir

Tottenham Hotspur are acclimatising to life under the stewardship of Ange Postecoglou in the early stages of the new season.

They are also getting used to the absence of Harry Kane, and journalist Rudy Galetti has given an update on the search for his replacement.

Who will replace Harry Kane at Spurs?

The long and drawn-out process of Harry Kane’s departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finally reached its conclusion earlier this month.

Kane is a legend in that half of north London, and so the Spurs faithful will have been glad that he at least chose the Bundesliga over a Premier League rival when angling for a move.

The England captain’s time in the German top flight has got off to a strong start with a goal, assist and three points to boast from the season opener.

He played a very intelligent ball through for Leroy Sane to open the scoring against Werder Bremen before getting in on the act with one of his textbook finishes on Friday night.

Tottenham’s attentions can now turn towards replacing their all-time top scorer, a very sizeable pair of boots to fill.

Football Insider is reporting that one of the names on the Lilywhites' wishlist is Gift Orban, who plays his club football in Belgium with Gent. The Nigerian striker is just 21 years old, so would be brought into the squad as a player for the present and the future.

What has Rudy Galetti said about the Gift Orban rumours?

Rudy Galetti offered his opinion on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Orban as they look to fill the Harry Kane-sized void.

Speaking recently to GIVEMESPORT, he said: "Tottenham are seriously interested in Gift Orban. They are targeting him as one of the possible replacements for Harry Kane.

"After approaching the representatives of the striker, the pace of a potential deal is a little bit slow. Spurs, in fact, want to negotiate a fair price with Gent, but the Belgian club seem to be quite adamant in their position for the Nigerian player.

"The Belgian club already set the price for Gift Orban at around €30m or €35m. The price is considered a bit high by Tottenham.

"Gent, today, don't want to lower their request. They are still in talks, so let's wait for the developments, which are expected in the next days."

What is the latest Tottenham transfer news?

There may not be much more business to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if Ange Postecoglou’s recent quotes are anything to go by.

He said: “Our focus at the moment is trimming the squad down and seeing where that takes us in terms of reinforcements.”

That being said, Spurs are being linked with a familiar face, as reports suggest they could reunite with defender Clement Lenglet.

The Frenchman was on loan at the club from Barcelona and he remains excluded from Xavi’s plans at the Nou Camp, having not featured in the squad for the season-opening draw with Getafe.

Elsewhere, there were previous murmurs of the Tottenham boss being an admirer of Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson – and they, of course, have money to spend following the sale of Kane.

Settled West Indies look to shake up depleted New Zealand

Having not played a Test since March this year, the hosts will have to shake off the rust and cope without BJ Watling and Tim Southee on what is expected to be a green track

The Preview by Deivarayan Muthu30-Nov-2017Big pictureBen Stokes flying to New Zealand and signing up with Canterbury has been the big news of the week, but there is the small matter of New Zealand’s thin Test summer at home, starting with the two-match series against West Indies. The last time West Indies faced New Zealand in a Test, in June 2014, Jason Holder made his debut and was part of a team that suffered a series defeat at home. Three years later, Holder faces New Zealand as the captain of young side that has defended 189 against India in an ODI, hunted down 322 in the Leeds Test after suffering an innings-and-209-run defeat at Trent Bridge, and sealed a 1-0 Test series win over a full-strength Zimbabwe team in 2017.He believes West Indies are in a “pretty good place” with the present team and heading in the “right direction”. From fearing for his international career, Kemar Roach has fit in as the leader of the attack, which includes Shannon Gabriel, Alzarri Joseph, and Miguel Cummins. Contrastingly, New Zealand are in a not-so-good place. For starters, they haven’t played Test cricket since March, while West Indies have played eight Tests since. They will also have to cope without the injured BJ Watling and Tim Southee, who is on paternity leave.Form guideNew Zealand: DLDWW (completed matches, most recent first)

The opener had a breakout season last summer, and was subsequently added to New Zealand’s list of contracted players for 2017-18. Can he build on the gains now?Unlike Raval, Jermaine Blackwood isn’t really a big fan of defence. Case in point: his second scoring shot in Test cricket was a disdainful thwack over long-on off Trent Boult. Blackwood, though, hasn’t passed fifty in his last 12 innings in internationals and tour matches, and could face competition from Shimron Hetmyer.Team newsNew Zealand have already announced their XI, picking Matt Henry over Lockie Ferguson as a replacement for Southee, and handing a Test debut to wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Blundell at his home ground.New Zealand: 1 Tom Latham, 2 Jeet Raval, 3 Kane Williamson (capt.), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Henry Nicholls, 6 Tom Blundell (wk), 7 Mitchell Santner, 8 Colin de Grandhomme, 9 Matt Henry, 10 Neil Wagner, 11 Trent BoultSunil Ambris, who cracked 153 off 145 balls in the middle order in the tour game against a New Zealand A attack that contained seven international bowlers, is likely to make his Test debut and occupy the spot vacated by Kyle Hope.West Indies (probable) 1 Kraigg Brathwaite, 2 Kieran Powell, 3 Shai Hope, 4 Sunil Ambris, 5 Roston Chase, 6 Jermaine Blackwood, 7 Shane Dowrich (wk), 8 Jason Holder (capt.), 9 Kemar Roach, 10 Devendra Bishoo, 11 Shannon GabrielPitch and conditionsEarly sightings of the pitch showed grass cover almost indistinguishable from the outfield, but that can often be misleading at this ground. ”It [The pitch] always looks a little bit [green] like that,” Kane Williamson said on Thursday. “There’s always something in the wicket if you do bowl well. Liverpool Now Set To Target "Outstanding" £22m Star

Liverpool are now set to target Ryan Gravenberch, with Jurgen Klopp changing his mind about the Bayern Munich midfielder, and journalist Rudy Galetti has now suggested he could be sold in the near future.

What's the latest Liverpool transfer news?

In a recent update from talkSPORT, it has been reported that Liverpool are now targeting Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has found game time hard to come by at the Etihad Stadium, making just 12 Premier League appearances last season.

Phillips had been planning to stay and fight for his place at City, but the Reds could now test his resolve after adding him to their shortlist, which also includes the likes of Manu Kone, Khephren Thuram and Cheick Doucoure, with talks recently being held about the latter player.

In the same report, it is detailed that productive talks have been held with Bayern over a deal for Gravenberch, who is clearly emerging as one of Klopp's transfer priorities, and he would be open to a move away from the Bundesliga champions this summer.

Although Klopp is now eager to get a deal for the Dutchman over the line, he hasn't always been his biggest fan, with Galetti recently telling GiveMeSport that the manager has performed a U-turn, in terms of his beliefs about his ability.

The journalist said: "Gravenberch on his side is climbing position in the preferred list of Liverpool. The Dutch midfielder could leave Bayern Munich in the next two weeks.

"Jurgen Klopp was not convinced by him in the past, but is now changing his mind about Gravenberch. I'm told he is becoming a concrete solution for the Liverpool midfield."

Can Ryan Gravenberch play at CDM?

Throughout his career so far, the 21-year-old has most commonly been utilised as a central midfielder, but he has displayed he is capable of playing in a slightly deeper role, making 31 appearances in defensive midfield, where he has picked up six goals and seven assists.

Upon his arrival at the Allianz Arena, the youngster was lauded as an "outstanding" player by former Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, but he is yet to prove himself with the Bundesliga side, and it is clear why he would be open to a move.

Ryan Gravenberch

The Netherlands international is yet to play any part for the Bavarian club so far this season, and he failed to set the world alight during his first campaign, failing to register a single goal or assist in 30 appearances across the Bundesliga and Champions League.

However, the youngster was hampered by a limited role in the first team, and it is clear to see he still has what it takes to go on and be a top player, with football talent scout Jacek Kulig previously lauding him as having a "huge future ahead."

Gravenberch, who is valued at around £22m by Bayern, could be a solid signing for Liverpool this summer, and they should now test the waters with an opening bid, given that Klopp is clearly happy to bring him to the club.

Crystal Palace In Talks To Sign 26-Year-Old England International

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer and more details regarding the potential transfer have now emerged.

What's going on with Dean Henderson?

The Eagles are looking to sign a new 'keeper between now and the end of August when the window slams shut, with Vicente Guaita expected to move on.

It is Henderson who has reportedly emerged as a target for Palace in recent days, with the 26-year-old's plans a little up in the air at the moment. It is clear that Andre Onana has come in as first-choice between the sticks at United, while a return to Nottingham Forest hasn't developed, having been on loan there last season.

The one-cap England international is at a point in his career where he wants to be playing regularly, especially as it would aid his chance if making the Three Lions' squad for Euro 2024 next summer.

Now, a fresh update regarding Palace's interest in Henderson this summer has emerged, with a move looking increasingly likely.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Will Crystal Palace sign Dean Henderson?

According to a key update from talkSPORT, Palace's plan is to sign the Englishman on loan this summer, potentially snapping him up on a permanent basis next year, and talks are now underway:

"Crystal Palace have held talks with Manchester United over a deal to sign Dean Henderson, talkSPORT understands. Palace boss Roy Hodgson has been desperate to sign a new goalkeeper after Vicente Guaita told the club he wanted to leave.

"And talkSPORT understands that discussions held are with regards to a loan move with the option to make the deal permanent.

"The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and helped them stay in the Premier League. A permanent move to the City Ground had been expected but a deal could not be struck with United."

This could be the ideal scenario for all parties, allowing Henderson the move away that he needs, but giving Palace a season to assess whether he is worthy of being a permanent signing or not.

The United man has certainly proved his worth in the past, impressing at Forest last season before an injury ended his campaign prematurely, being hailed as "incredible" by Antonio Conte.

Henderson could be a really strong signing and an upgrade on Guaita, assuming the latter moves on, and at 26, he is still young for a goalkeeper and should only improve as the years pass, particularly if he can enjoy regular starts moving forward.

He is an extremely confident player who has total faith in his ability, and if were to come in and hit the ground running for Palace, he could help elevate them to another level moving forward, proving to be good with the ball at his feet and an expert shot-stopper.

To have played for both England and United speaks volumes, and while a move away from Old Trafford makes sense now, 13 clean sheets in 29 appearances for arguably the biggest club in the world is a good return, also winning an FA Cup along the way.

Liverpool Could Sign Caicedo 2.0 In ‘Dangerous’ £32m Star

Liverpool's tumultuous transfer window has left the Merseyside club scrambling to secure a defensive midfielder, but a shrewd option might have been identified.

Who will Liverpool sign instead of Caicedo?

According to ESPN, PSV ace Ibrahim Sangare is attracting the attention of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Premier League side sold Fabinho to Al-Ittihad for £40m and are yet to sign a replacement, missing out on Moises Caicedo to Chelsea, who are also hoping to swipe Southampton's Romeo Lavia from under Jurgen Klopp's nose.

Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…

Sangare has a release clause of £32m and could prove to be a worthy alternative for the Anfield side, bringing tenacity and a tough-tackling approach to fortify the ranks.

How good is Ibrahim Sangare?

Liverpool technical director Jorg Schamdtke is approaching desperation mode and will need to act swiftly to provide the club with the best chance of succeeding this season.

Liverpool drew 1-1 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend in the Premier League opener, and while there were positives to take from the affair the absence of a sturdy No. 6 was clear, with The Athletic's James Pearce saying, "the lack of both control and protection in front of the back line was glaring."

Whether the Reds succeed in their bid to sign Lavia remains to be seen, but Sangare could prove to be a first-rate alternative, having impressed in the Netherlands over the past several seasons, chalking up 136 appearances, scoring 14 goals and supplying ten assists.

Described as a "dangerous" player in the centre by analyst Aad de Mos, Sangare could quickly allow the Merseyside club to forget about Caicedo, who has been heralded as a "physical monster" by Dr. Rajpal Brar and admittedly looks to be a superlative machine in the middle, ranking among the top 5% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for pass completion and the top 14% for tackles and interceptions per 90, as per FBref.

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare.

Comparatively, the 31-cap Ivory Coast international ranks among the top 8% of midfielders across the eight leagues most comparable to the Eredivisie for goals, the top 18% for passes attempted, the top 9% for progressive passes, the top 13% for successful take-ons, the top 19% for clearances and the top 12% for clearances per 90.

While it's important to remember that Sangare plies his trade outside the top five European leagues and this, therefore, is reflected through his metrics, he clearly boasts an all-encompassing midfield skill set and has the passing ability and defensive work rate to provide Klopp's team with the component it has been missing. With such traits and attributes in mind, you could say he is Caicedo 2.0.

Pivotally, he would also be available for a portion of the price of Caicedo, who is expected to cost Chelsea £115m. In turn, this would allow Liverpool to focus on further targets and perhaps create a winning squad, spreading the need for reinforcements across several players.

Jacek Kulig hailed the 25-year-old as "one of Ligue 1's best midfielders" before he made the move to PSV, and while Sangare is not the highlight name of the Brighton ace, he could prove to be a most shrewd acquisition and bolster Liverpool's midfield with the toughness and tenacity to set them on their way this season.

Liverpool: Reds Make Enquiry For Johan Bakayoko

As the chaos of Liverpool's pursuit of midfield reinforcements continues, the Reds have briefly turned part of their attention to potentially adding a right winger to their ranks to back up Mohamed Salah, according to reports.

So far this summer, Jurgen Klopp has welcomed just two new signings, in the form of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Now, however, the Premier League giants have reportedly turned their attention towards Johan Bakayoko.

What's the latest on Johan Bakayoko to Liverpool?

According to Dutch reporter Rif Elfrink, Liverpool have enquired with Bakayoko's management about how much a move for the PSV Eindhoven winger would cost this summer.

The Reds will have to get in line if they are to pursue the winger's signature, however, with Everton and Paris Saint-Germain still in the race, according to Sacha Taviolori, with Liverpool's Merseyside rivals set to make an approach to PSV.

Klopp's main focus may well be on putting an end to his current midfield crisis, which looks set to result in the arrival of Wataru Endo, but Bakayoko could still be an option to reinforce the attack.

Should Liverpool sign Johan Bakayoko?

Whilst Liverpool's immediate problems do not come down the right-hand side, with Salah often the star man and showing no signs of slowing down, welcoming an adequate deputy to the Egyptian would be smart business. And a young player like Bakayoko is an ideal candidate.

The winger, still only 20-years-old, had an incredibly impressive campaign last time out, scoring nine goals and assisting a further six in all competitions. Still so young, the chances of Bakayoko getting even better are increasing by the week, with youth football writer Moby Haque offering some insight on Thursday:

"I REALLY hope we can sign him, our fans would love him. He is the Sadio like winger, completely unpredictable on the wing. One of the best PSV academy talents in a while. Gakpo can attest."

So far this season, the Belgian has featured four times for PSV, including two games in Champions League qualifying, in which he has made two assists. The cherry on top for Liverpool, if they do push on for Bakayoko's signature, would be beating their Merseyside rivals, Everton, to their target.

According to Transfermarkt, too, the PSV man is worth just €10m (£9m), making him an affordable option for those at Anfield, so they should have no issue trumping the Blues for his signature.

Bakayoko has earned high praise throughout his career already, including from Football Talent Scout's Jacek Kulig, who said last season: "20 years of age. Such an electric player. Still very far from being a finished product but the potential is really high!"

Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also said that the winger is, "performing at a very high level".

Kulig also listed the youngster's impressive stats last season, with the winger directly involved in a goal every 137 minutes, and enjoying an expected goal rate of 3.85, as well as an expected assist rate of 6.67. On top of that, Bakayoko also made 1.7 key passes per 90, made six big chances, and had 60% dribble success.

With that said, it's no surprise that Liverpool have reportedly enquired about a potential deal for the PSV man this summer, who had a standout campaign last season, deservedly earning such high interest.

Spurs’ 20 y/o Gem Was "Brilliant" vs AFCB

Tottenham Hotspur continued their confident start under Ange Postecoglou by dispatching a spirited Bournemouth on the south coast, and the Australian manager will be delighted by his side's collective fluidity and incisiveness.

How did Tottenham get on against Bournemouth?

While the Cherries started the affair with attacking intent, Spurs' control and newfound exuberance under the stewardship of Postecoglou shone through, and the away side emerged as deserved 2-0 victors.

James Maddison bundled in the opener after latching onto Pape Sarr's penetrating through-ball to score his first goal since joining the club from Leicester City in a £40m move this summer.

While Andoni Iraola's side threatened throughout, they could not bypass Guglielmo Vicario's goal, and it was new captain Son Heung-min and young full-back Destiny Udogie who combined to place the full-back into a dangerous position, where his cut-back allowed Dejan Kulusevski to drive home his first of the season.

How did Udogie play against Bournemouth?

Whilst Maddison dazzled with his performance, Udogie's start to life on English soil will have emboldened his manager, with the 20-year-old impressing as the Lilywhites gather steam.

The defender spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Udinese after signing for Spurs in an initial £15m deal the summer before.

As per Sofascore, Maddison recorded a joint match-best rating (alongside Son) of 8.0, complementing his maiden strike for the club with a 91% pass completion rate, making one key pass, winning seven of his 13 ground duels and succeeding with both of his attempted dribbles.

Hailed for his "creativity and zest" by Henry Winter, Maddison looks a real livewire in the Spurs centre and the fulcrum of their attacking efforts, but it is the collective enhancement of this Tottenham team – which last year languished to an eighth-placed finish – that will have the supporters so excited, and Udogie is emblematic of his improvement.

While Udogie was withdrawn at the 82-minute mark with a suspected injury, the 6 foot 2 dynamo was described as "brilliant" for his role in Tottenham's second strike by Charlie Eccleshare.

He would record an impressive match rating of 7.2, and while his assist caught the eye, the eight-cap Italy U21 star made three clearances and completed 89% of his passes, touching the ball 58 times.

Football.london's Rob Guest handed Udogie a match rating of 8/10, with the journalist saying: "Looked to attack at every opportunity and also played his part with some very good defending up against Antoine Semenyo.

"Showcased his best qualities for the second goal with a lovely run and link-up with Son Heung-min before picking out Dejan Kulusevski."

Despite his young age, Udogie boasts a wealth of skills that leave him tailor-made for Postecoglou's system, ranking among the top 17% of full-backs across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals, the top 15% for shot-creating actions, the top 19% for pass completion and the top 7% for progressive carries and successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.

The 2023/24 campaign is still in its embryonic stages, but Udogie and Tottenham are tantalising a successful year, and against Bournemouth, he showcased why he must be a regular name on the teamsheet for his side.
