Chelsea have reportedly made a big offer to sign a new forward for Mauricio Pochettino and have already received a response.
Chelsea eyeing new striker
It seems as if a marque attacker is at the top of the wishlist for the Blues in 2024, with Todd Boehly potentially splashing the cash at Stamford Bridge once again.

Two attackers were brought in over the summer in Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, however, the former has struggled with injury and the latter has come in for criticism at points. Jackson appeared to be jeered by Chelsea supporters in a defeat to Wolves last month, which resulted in Pochettino defending the Senegal striker, who is now currently away on AFCON duty.
“It is always about expectation, how you manage expectation and set the expectation. If we compare Jackson to different strikers that arrive at his age to a new league, he is scoring goals when you look at his performances.
“It is not about blaming him. I think you can accept the frustration from the fans: when we don’t score, it is about the offensive players. But my advice is to blame them all together because football is a team sport, a collective sport, we cannot blame only one. But in this case, he is young, in the Premier League, the expectation is massive and we are Chelsea. At Chelsea, there is pressure to play and deliver the best job possible.”
Victor Osimhen of Napoli has emerged as a leading candidate, however, a transfer may not materialise until the summer despite the player being open to a move. The Blues have been offered up to five strikers as short-term solutions, but it looks as if they have made their move for another star striker in Viktor Gyokeres.
Chelsea make offer to sign Viktor Gyokeres
According to reports from Portugal, relayed by The Daily Mail, Chelsea have made a bid to sign Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, offering around €85m (£73m). However, in a blow for Boehly and co, Sporting Lisbon have reportedly turned Chelsea’s proposal down and appear to be holding out for the player’s €100m (£86m) release clause. Also, Gyokeres wants to remain in Portugal until the end of the season after only joining from Coventry City last summer.
Sporting CP strikerViktor Gyokeres.
You can see why the Blues are seemingly interested in Gyokeres’ services, with the Sweden international taking his game to the next level after leaving the Sky Blues.
The 25-year-old contributed to 33 Championship goals last season as Coventry narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League and has gone from strength to strength with Sporting Lisbon.

As can be seen, Gyokeres, hailed as “unplayable” by former teammate Maxime Biamou, has starred during the current campaign and is currently averaging a goal contribution every 64 minutes.
The Blues appear to be just £13m short of triggering the striker’s release clause, so a return to England in 2024 with Chelsea could be one to keep an eye on.
A Manchester City player who has "great qualities" could now seal an exit from the club as soon as this week, according to a new transfer report.
Man City transfer & contract news
Pep Guardiola has built an incredible squad at the Etihad, so there was no great need for new faces to arrive during the January transfer window, even though they were linked with a move for Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz. There is no doubt that new signings will likely come in at the end of the season, allowing the manager to freshen things up, and there could also be doubts over the futures of certain City players.
Kevin De Bruyne.
Admittedly, veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson is the only individual who is out of contract once the current campaign reaches its climax, but it applies to some players in 2025. The most prominent of those is Kevin De Bruyne, who is now considered one of the greatest players in the club's history.
There is also the small matter of Guardiola's current deal expiring then, too, and given Jurgen Klopp's shock announcement that he is leaving Liverpool this summer, it could be that the City boss decides that he won't renew.
Man City could sell Sergio Gomez
According to a new update from Fotomac [via Sport Witness], Manchester City left-back Sergio Gomez could leave the club this week, making the most of the Turkish transfer window still being open until Friday.
That's because Galatasaray are the club who have been linked with a move for him, with the report stating that the Turkish giants "want to sign" him. While it would be a shame to see Gomez leave City in the coming days, it does feel like it would be the right decision, in terms of his own future and not allowing his career to drift by.
The 23-year-old has really struggled to nail down a regular place in Guardiola's squad since arriving from Anderlecht back in 2022, even though he is the only out-and-out left-back at the Etihad currently. This season, just 18 minutes of Premier League action has come his way across three appearances, with central defenders preferred to him on the left, from Nathan Ake to Josko Gvardiol.
Gomez is a player with real quality, though, and Joao Cancelo clearly saw him as a strong contender to take his place when he joined City, saying of him: "Spanish players always have talent and he has great qualities. He comes from FC Barcelona Academy, so there isn't much more you need to add."

In truth, Gomez has now probably had long enough at City to show if he is worth keeping hold of, and the fact that he hasn't been able to start regularly despite being the only proper option in his best role is a sign that Guardiola doesn't see a future for him.
Instead, he should seal a move to Galatasaray this week and rebuild his career, starting every week and ensuring he enjoys many good years ahead of him.
Harry Kane admitted England's last tournament exit was "pretty sh*t" as he warned his team-mates to learn from their dismal Iceland defeat.

England lost 1-0 in friendlyEuro 2024 begins this weekKane begs countrymen to learn lessonsWHAT HAPPENED?
England lost 1-0 to Iceland in their final pre-tournament warm-up for Euro 2024 in a dismal performance that saw the Bayern Munich striker miss a glaring opportunity from close-range. With Euro 2024 beginning this week – Gareth Southgate's side play Serbia on Sunday – Kane has sent a brutal warning to his team-mates.

The Bayern striker was at fault in Qatar as England were eliminated by France at the quarter-final stage, as he missed a late penalty that could have forced extra time. He maintains that exit was "pretty sh*t" as he has geed up his team-mates to try to go all the way in Germany.
WHAT KANE SAID
Reflecting on England's performance against Iceland, Kane told reporters: "This could be a nice wake-up call for everyone to realise it is not going to be as easy as people think.
"There is a lot of work to do. Sometimes, you need this wake-up call. There are areas we need to improve, especially with our pressure. The group games are going to be very similar to this. We are going to have to defend well, especially the longer balls, and with the ball we need to be a bit more patient. It is one to look back on.
"We fell below our standards without the ball and that is something we have to review and get better with. We had spells where we did well and played some really nice football and created some good chances. But against these types of teams especially, you have to be more clinical.
"There probably wasn’t enough hunger in the duels, in the second balls and winning those. They are a big important part when you are playing these teams, to sustain the pressure and really suffocate them. We didn’t do that well."
Asked about the quarter-final defeat to Les Bleus he added: "Pretty sh*t, wasn't it? In football you are going to have ups and downs on the way. Of course, that was a down for me at the moment, but I think over two years, for club and for country, I have put that to bed and I am just excited for another major tournament."

England face Serbia, Slovenia, and Denmark in their Euro 2024 group and Kane will be gunning for another Golden Boot, having won the award at the 2018 World Cup. At major tournaments, he has scored 12 goals in 22 games, stretching back to Euro 2016.
It's barely been a minute since Tottenham Hotspur prevailed in a slugfest against Brentford, but Ange Postecoglou must now ready his troops for a tough test against Everton at Goodison Park tomorrow afternoon.
With Aston Villa losing at home against Newcastle United one day earlier, Spurs have reclaimed a spot in the top four and must now focus on stringing together a run of victories to consolidate this position of power.
Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.
Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner have been added to the squad during a successful January transfer window for the Lilywhites while James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur have recovered from injuries to pump confidence and quality into the team.
There are absentees for tomorrow's match but Postecoglou will be largely content with his options ahead of a tough test in the Premier League.
Spurs team news
Postecoglou has hinted that Maddison will be fit to start against Everton, having been hooked prematurely on Wednesday night after an influential performance.
Heung-min Son's South Korea advanced to the quarter-finals of the Asia Cup on Friday evening – the 31-year-old on the scoresheet – so he won't be featuring against Everton, or indeed for the foreseeable.

Pape Matar Sarr, however, is available once again after Senegal were defeated on penalties and Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations, but Yves Bissouma is still competing at the tournament and Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Manor Solomon remain on the sidelines.
Pape Sarr must start vs Everton
While Sarr played 120 minutes in Ivory Coast only on Tuesday, it's felt that the 21-year-old will be ready and raring to make an impact against Everton.
Tottenham midfielder Pape Sarr celebrating a goal.
His dynamism and energy will be crucial in establishing control in the midfield battle, having posted two goals and two assists across 18 matches in the Premier League this season, completing 90% of his passes and averaging 5.1 ball recoveries per game, as per Sofascore.
Regarded as a prospect with "real potential" by Fabrizio Romano back in 2022, Sarr actually signed for Tottenham from Metz in a £15m package in 2021 and returned to the French club for the 2021/22 season, then starting just two league games for Spurs last season, impressing nonetheless.

As per FBref, he ranks among the top 9% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for assists, the top 17% for pass completion, the top 18% for progressive passes and the top 10% for shots taken per 90, showcasing his technical ability and willingness to push forward and influence attacking moments.
With Bentancur partnering him in the centre, Spurs will secure the kind of fluency needed to run Everton into the ground and Sarr will be paramount to Postecoglou's side's chances of success.
Further up the pitch, Richarlison will surely keep his place at the spearhead after scoring seven goals from his past seven outings in the Premier League, while Maddison has indeed been confirmed to be fit and Dejan Kulusevski is an ever-present stalwart.
That leaves the left side of the attack, where Timo Werner has enjoyed some success across his opening two matches in the top flight for Tottenham, registering an assist in both appearances.
That said, the German international has not played all that much football this season and it might be wise to issue rotation heading into what promises to be an aggressive encounter at Goodison. As such, Brennan Johnson must return to the starting line-up after his goalscoring substitute display last time out.
Brennan Johnson could be a "nightmare" at Goodison Park
Tottenham completed the signing of Johnson from Nottingham Forest in August, the Wales international arriving in a £47.5m deal after playing a talismanic role in the Tricky Trees' successful return to the top-flight last term, scoring ten goals and supplying three assists.
He's been solid if unspectacular for the Lilywhites thus far and boasts two goals and four assists across 12 starts in the Premier League, but after restoring the lead moments after his half-time introduction, he will be pushing for a role from the outset this afternoon.
brennan-johnson-tottenham-hotspur
Content creator HLTCO certainly believes in the Wales international's skill set, highlighting the attributes that convinced Postecoglou and co to invest the sizeable sum in his services in the first place.
He said: "Brennan Johnson is such an exciting player to watch. He’s got frightening pace and directness; constantly looking to make something happen, it must be an absolute nightmare to defend against him."
With Son currently playing at the Asia Cup, Spurs' offensive options have been required to step up and they certainly did so against Brentford, now the onus is on producing an overpowering performance against Dyche's troops.
Werner has proved his creative worth, sure, but Johnson can match the erstwhile Chelsea forward's fleet-footedness and electricity in attack, averaging 1.2 key passes per fixture in the Premier League.
Funnily enough, it was Werner's pass that provided Johnson with the opportunity to give his side the lead earlier in the week but this merely illustrates the vibrancy of Tottenham's options, even with such an influential figure in Son out of contention.
The £70k-per-week Welshman also boasts a stunning record against the Toffees since the start of last season and must be handed a full chance to continue a Midas touch against the opposition.
Brennan Johnson.
Indeed, Johnson has plundered three goals and an assist from just three outings against Everton and created a whopping five key passes during Postecoglou's 2-1 triumph down at N17 just before Christmas.
He's evidently got the Merseyside outfit's number and will be a crucial cog in helping Tottenham secure back-to-back victories in the Premier League and cement that place in Champions League contention.
With Maddison fit and firing too, the fluidity and spark coursing through the visitors at Goodison will be clear for all to see and Johnson has to start to ensure a slip-up is avoided.
One manager has already emerged as the favourite to succeed Jon Dahl Tomasson at Blackburn Rovers, as per The Lancashire Telegraph.
Tomasson’s future at Blackburn
Tomasson’s tenure in charge at Ewood Park looks set to come to an end, with an announcement over his departure expected to come on Thursday once approved by the Venky’s in India.
The 47-year-old wasn't allowed to speak to the press ahead of Rovers' game against QPR last weekend following Deadline Day drama involving target Duncan McGuire. Rovers wanted to sign McGuire from Orlando City, however, a deal broke down due to an “administrative error” from the Lancashire side and a transfer was cancelled with McGuire mid-flight. In a statement, Blackburn said:
“Duncan McGuire’s proposed loan move to Blackburn Rovers from MLS side Orlando City has not been approved by the EFL to date due to the registration documents being submitted after the 11pm transfer deadline.
“All of the necessary signed paperwork had been completed prior to 10pm on Thursday February 1st, however due to an administrative error, the forms were not processed within the prescribed time. Detailed discussions with legal representatives and the relevant football authorities have taken place over the past few days to try to reach an urgent and positive resolution to the matter.”
As we know, Blackburn then fell to defeat on Saturday against QPR, and it looks as if that will be Tomasson’s last time in the Ewood Park dugout.
Therefore, Rovers appear to be on the search for the Danish manager’ successor, with the club seemingly wasting no time.
Favourite to replace Tomasson at Blackburn…
The Lancashire Telegraph’s Elliott Jackson shared a big Blackburn Rovers news story on Thursday morning, revealing that those at Ewood Park have identified John Eustace as the early frontrunner to replace Tomasson.
He appears to be in pole position to take over as he ‘leads the running to come in as the new head coach’, with Blackburn looking at a swift long-term appointment instead of a caretaker.
Birmingham City's former manager John Eustace.
Eustace has been out of work since October when he was controversially sacked at Birmingham City despite having Blues in the playoff places. As we know, since then, Birmingham have struggled under Wayne Rooney and now have former Rovers boss Tony Mowbray in charge. It shows what an “excellent” job he did in the Midlands, as dubbed by Alan Briggs.
He has also been a manager of interest over recent months, with Derby County, Stoke City and most recently Huddersfield Town all linked with a move for Eustace.
The 44-year-old, who plays a 3-5-2 system, appeared to be going from strength to strength during his early days as a manager at Birmingham., so he could look to pick up where he left off at Ewood Park, making this one to watch.
Reliable club insider ExWHUemployee has shared some news on West Ham United and talks to sign an "exciting" attacker for David Moyes this month.
West Ham becoming more active after Moyes transfer admission
Widespread reports have backed the east Londoners to become more active before transfer deadline day on February 1, especially after a succession of key player injuries.

Michail Antonio recently suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee problem, while it is believed star midfielder Lucas Paqueta is facing around two months on the sidelines.
Star winger Jarrod Bowen could be back to face Sheffield United in what is undoubtedly better news for Moyes, but Mohammed Kudus being at AFCON with Ghana has also exposed West Ham's real lack of depth in some areas.
Forward Said Benrahma could also depart West Ham this window amid interest from Ligue 1 sides, with Moyes publicly admitting that the club want to get new faces in through the door.

According to Sky Sports this week, West Ham have opened talks to sign Man City outcast Kalvin Phillips as one option, while there have been suggestions of negotiations over Arsenal attacker Emile Smith Rowe.

Both men are failing to get regular game time at their current clubs, as the Hammers look to offer them both minutes ahead of Euro 2024.
ExWHUemployee shares news on Smith Rowe talks
As per ExWHUemployee, who shared news on West Ham's talks to sign the Gunners ace, Moyes and co have been a few roadblocks.
West Ham have held talks with Smith Rowe's agent, but it is believed neither the player nor Arsenal are particularly keen on striking a loan deal.
“As we understand it at this moment in time, talks have not been smooth with the players agent stating that Smith-Rowe would rather remain and fight for his place at Arsenal,” said Ex (via West Ham Way).

“Also Arsenal have no appetite to allow the midfielder to leave as we understand it.”
The 23-year-old has started just one league game under Arteta this season, making six substitute appearances, but it appears the promise of more action at West Ham isn't doing enough to sway him as things stand.
Smith Rowe had been seriously lavished for his potential before this campaign. Sky pundit Jamie Carragher, after being left dazzled by a performance of the midfielder's in 2021, called him an "exciting" talent (Sky via The Mail).
Four uncapped players in Lions squad as England look for early Ashes pointers
ESPNcricinfo staff06-Jul-2019England have handed Lions call-ups to Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley, two young openers who could come into Ashes contention, for next week’s four-day match against Australia A at Canterbury.Sibley, of Warwickshire, is currently the leading run-scorer in Division One of the County Championship, with 922 at 70.92, while Kent’s Crawley is fourth with 639 at 42.60. Both are set to make debuts for the Lions, alongside Gloucestershire batsman James Bracey and Sussex seamer Ollie Robinson, who are included in a provisional XI.There has been much uncertainty around England’s Test top three, following the retirement of Alastair Cook and the absence of a regular No. 3. Andy Flower, the Lions head coach, suggested that the players selected would be “looking to stake a claim” for the Ashes, with Sibley perhaps the leading candidate after a stellar run of form.Sibley helped Warwickshire win promotion last season and started 2019 by extending a sequence of hundreds to six in successive first-class matches. This week he compiled a career-best 244 against Kent at Canterbury, overhauling the 242 not out he made as a teenager at Surrey in 2013 (making him the youngest double-centurion in Championship history).”We’re really looking forward to a great challenge against a very experienced Australia A side, some of whom will be looking to stake a claim for Ashes selection,” Flower said. “We’ve got a very good squad of players travelling with us to Canterbury; one that’s more than capable of delivering a positive result.”Lions selection is always tricky. We’ve got an eye on the England team’s short-term needs ahead of a busy winter schedule, but we’re looking at some medium- and long-term prospects as well. We also need to respect the counties’ needs during this busy time in the domestic season.”While some players will be playing at this level for the first time, there is plenty of experience in our squad too. This will be a great learning opportunity for all these players and a chance to test themselves against a strong opposition.”There is England experience in the side, with wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, who played five of six Tests over the winter, batsman Ben Duckett and spinner Jack Leach among those previously capped. Somerset’s Lewis Gregory, who is the leading pace bowler in the Championship with 44 wickets at 12.93, won an England call-up in 2015 but has yet to feature at international level. Also included are Essex seamer Jamie Porter, who was close to a Test cap last summer; Lancashire’s rapid young faster bowler Saqib Mahmood; and Hampshire batsman Sam Northeast, who will be a contender to captain the side.England Lions squad: James Bracey, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes, Lewis Gregory, Jack Leach, Saqib Mahmood, Sam Northeast, Jamie Porter, Ollie Robinson, Dom Sibley

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Another window of opportunity has swung open in the summer of 2024, with Wrexham expected to be busy as they piece together a squad that can be competitive in the third tier. A number of players have already seen moves to SToK Racecourse speculated on, with additions being sought across the board.
WHAT PARKINSON SAID
Parkinson is, however, eager to point out that no money will be spent for the sake of it and has said of what new recruits must bring to his ranks: “The most important thing we can do is win on a Saturday afternoon at three o’clock. And all our energy goes into that. Keeping the dressing room right, the harmony in the football dressing room is so important if you’re gonna have a successful season. Because once the season starts, it’s a long nine months. You’re on the road together a lot. There’s lots of ups and downs. You need players that when you get beat, are going to respond. When they get left out the team, are going to respond and train properly. So there’s so many dynamics you have to come into play when you’re recruiting players.”
