Liverpool just can’t miss out on Timo Werner

Suddenly, Timo Werner’s been caught up in the middle of a discreet transfer war.

Indeed, Both Bayern Munich and Liverpool are reportedly in the running for him according to the Mirror, but it’s the Bundesliga giants who seem to be ahead. Bayern have previously (via SportBILD) been said to be very close to signing the youngster and could even agree on a deal quickly.

Werner has reportedly been a prime target for Jurgen Klopp for quite some time now. Touted with a move to Anfield for a fairly long time – with BILD suggesting he was a target way back in January – potentially losing out on him would be a blow. With Liverpool in need of another quality striker, the clinical German would certainly add more flavour to their attack.

Knowing his ability to play in a fast-paced system, Werner’s fantastic link-up play means he could create a deadly partnership with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

He’s produced some inspired work in Leipzig over the years, gaining a lot of attention for his heroics. Werner’s already scored 11 goals in 21 appearances in the Bundesliga this league, with his fantastic movement, pace and finishing ability making him an ideal goal-scorer for an attack-minded side.

With Bayern calling (as previously reported by SportBILD), Werner will find it difficult to reject them as he gets a chance to stay in his home country and play for a European giant. Klopp needs to use his influence to convince him to move to Liverpool and give him better guarantees over his growth.

Before he signs any kind of agreement with the Bavarians, Liverpool should use their influence to swoon him away. Werner can not only be an exciting addition but can become a lethal goal-scorer akin to Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez upon arriving at the Premier League.

The Chalkboard: Klopp’s Old Trafford blunder may cost Liverpool the title

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans weren’t happy with James Milner after Sunday’s draw at Old Trafford, and some stunning stats reveal just how wrong Jurgen Klopp was to leave Trent Alexander-Arnold out of the starting XI.

Klopp will feel like he missed an opportunity when he reviews the 0-0 draw against Manchester United, as the Red Devils were there for the taking once injuries forced all three of their substitutions in the first half.

He is surely already aware of one crucial mistake though, as the charismatic German decided to start Milner at right-back over Alexander-Arnold only for it to backfire horrifically.

Alexander-Arnold had a nightmare dealing with Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford last season, perhaps what prompted the change, but the 20 year-old’s impact is at an all-time high, and he likely would have produced some magic with all the space Milner was afforded on Sunday.

In fact, the stats below suggest this was an absolutely catastrophic blunder from Klopp.

On the chalkboard

Per Simon Brundish, the Reds have earned a whopping 2.5 points per game in the 24 games Alexander-Arnold has played in this season, but they average just 1.58 points per game without the local lad, a mind-blowing difference.

This disparity carries on right across the board too, as the Reds’ goals, goals conceded, expected goals and expected goals against are all worse when the youngster is left out.

To really add salt into the wounds, Brundish states that Mohamed Salah is massively effected by Alexander-Arnold’s presence as well.

When the right-back plays, Salah scores or assists a goal every 95 minutes. Without the 5-cap England international, Salah manages a goal or assist every 131 minutes.

Given Salah’s struggles at Old Trafford last season, Klopp should have been doing everything in his power to get the best out of his talisman, and starting Alexander-Arnold may just have unlocked the Egyptian international.

If the Reds miss out on the league title by a couple of points, Klopp would be right to look back at this as perhaps his biggest blunder of the season.

PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award – Premier League nominees for February

What a month it has been. We’ve witnessed Manchester City trim Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to just one point, Fulham and Huddersfield sink further adrift at the bottom, and the race for the Golden Boot hot up – it really is all to play for as we enter the business end to the season.

Anyway, enough about team performances, and onto the players who made the magic happen. Let’s take a look at the Premier League nominees for the PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award for February…

Sergio Aguero

The Manchester City forward enjoyed a phenomenal month in February. Aguero hit back-to-back hat-tricks at the Etihad against Arsenal and Chelsea to equal Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 11 in the competition.

Furthermore, the Argentine also scored from the spot against West Ham to win the game 1-0 and earn his side a crucial three points.

Ashley Barnes

Burnley’s No.10 was in excellent form throughout February. The 29-year-old hit three goals in his four appearances, with those strikes coming in three consecutive games and helping seal impressive results against Tottenham and Manchester United.

Barnes also grabbed an assist in the 3-1 win against his former club, Brighton.

Aymeric Laporte

The Frenchman was instrumental in helping his side regain their footing in the title race during the month of February.

Laporte scored a crucial goal against Everton, set one up against Arsenal and was also handed one Man of the Match award for his performance against the Toffees, to crown an impressive month for the 24-year-old defender.

Paul Pogba

The rejuvenated midfielder continued his fine form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in February. Pogba hit two more goals in his four appearances throughout the month, whilst also setting up a further two as Manchester United staked a claim for a top four place.

Additionally, the French international won the WhoScored Man of the Match award for two of his four performances – impressive stuff.

Raheem Sterling

Sterling earned a perfect 10 rating from WhoScored for his performance in the 6-0 demolition of Chelsea, a game in which he grabbed two goals, including the opener.

The England international also set up two goals against Arsenal to cap off an impressive February for himself and the Citizens.

Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool’s colossal centre-back helped his side keep three clean sheets in their four games throughout February, winning a whopping 25 aerial duels and making 23 clearances in that time.

Van Dijk also managed to grab himself two goals, as the Reds ended the month sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League with a massive 5-0 win over Watford.

United fans react as historic trend continues with Nemanja Matic pulling out of Serbia squad

[ad_pod ]

It was announced by Manchester United on Wednesday morning that midfielder Nemanja Matic has been forced to pull out of the Serbia squad with injury.

The news followed bizarrely similar cases with three other members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, England’s Luke Shaw, France’s Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof of Sweden, all of which were in shape before the international break.

Remarkably, Romelu Lukaku also looks set to withdraw from the latest Belgium squad as European nations get their EURO 2020 qualification campaigns underway.

But are United fans buying that these injuries and absences are genuine? You bet your bottom dollar they’re not as many are expecting the same foul play they saw at Old Trafford many years ago.

It was a common occurrence during the Sir Alex Ferguson era for Red Devils stars to pull out of their national squads with injury only to appear fine the other side of the break and multiple supporters expect the same this time around.

Check out some of their best reactions poking fun as the comical trend continues, below…

Leeds United’s meagre Spygate fine unfair on promotion rivals

The judgement on the “Spygate” scandal was finally delivered, as Leeds United were fined £200,000 and given a stern warning for future offences (via BBC).

Despite being made to pay quite the formidable figure, the Whites will be glad to pay the fine rather than having their points deducted. Their Championship rivals, on the other hand, will be anything but pleased.

Many fans have voiced their displeasure at Leeds being let off easily by the EFL. It was hoped – albeit speculatively – they would have some points deducted, which could’ve helped make the Championship race more competitive. The clubs, who were victims of “Spygate”, will surely have been most displeased because the spying hampered their chances against the Whites.

While there weren’t much grounds for Leeds to have their points deducted, they should’ve been handed a more formidable ban. Be it suspending Marcelo Bielsa, the perpetrator of the whole thing, for a few matches or something else, this fine feels like injustice towards their opponents.

However, Bielsa’s extraordinary revelation a few months ago when he gave a long presentation showcasing how he analyzes each game and isn’t dependent on the “spying” to win matches probably worked in his favour. The Whites now have a hovering worry out of their sight and can finally concentrate towards the last hurdle.

Only a few months remain of the Championship action. With Leeds’ title chances remaining intact, those relying on them being handed a more potent ban will be left worried about how to recharge their own promotion chances.

Liverpool fans discuss potential centre-forward arrival

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have been on social media discussing whether their club should move for a new centre-forward in this summer’s transfer window.

On form, Liverpool have one of the best attacks in world football.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were in stunning form in the early months of the campaign, but things have since gone a little cold.

Indeed, Firmino was forced off through injury against Manchester United last time out, whilst Mane and Salah found it very difficult to influence the match at Old Trafford.

Daniel Sturridge could well depart Anfield this summer with his contract expiring, meanwhile, and Divock Origi’s future is also far from secure.

With that in mind, the Merseyside club’s fans have been discussing whether their team should move for a new striker this summer.

Check out the video below to see how Brazil fans reacted to being asked how Cristiano Ronaldo would perform for them in a hilarious prank by Pl>ymaker FC…

RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner is amongst those to be mentioned, as well as Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi, who may well be available this summer.

Ex-Australia star says Aaron Mooy must leave Huddersfield

[ad_pod ]

Whilst they aren’t yet relegated in mathematical terms, Huddersfield Town’s prospects of Premier League survival are grim. The Terriers are currently rooted to the foot of the table and are 13 points off of safety with just nine games to go.

Manager Jan Siewert and the club hierarchy at the John Smith’s Stadium should already be planning for life back in the Championship. However, a few of their players probably deserve to avoid the drop, even if the Yorkshire club won’t. Amongst those standout stars is Aaron Mooy, who his compatriot Bruce Djite believes is too good to return to the second tier.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

What he said

Speaking on the Fox Football Podcast, the 31-year-old former Australia international said “he’s been there, he’s done that, he had a fantastic season in the Championship playing for Huddersfield in previous seasons, so I think he makes a move. It’s time for him to start looking, if he hasn’t already. Does he stay in England? Can he get another Premier League gig? I think he’s good enough, but there are a lot of moving parts…He’s definitely too much of a talent to go back to the Championship.”

Seeking a lifeline

Mooy has certainly been one of the Terriers’ best in the Premier League, especially last season. Since Huddersfield’s promotion, the 28-year-old midfielder has scored six goals and managed three assists. On paper, those stats are hardly exceptional, but in the context of the situation at Huddersfield they’re far more flattering.

Djite is right, the 39-cap Australia international certainly deserves to remain in the top flight. Given he only has a £12.6 million Transfermarkt valuation, there are plenty of Premier League clubs who can afford to offer him a top flight lifeline.

Newcastle fans react to Luis Garcia’s surprise Ayoze Perez claim

[ad_pod ]

Former Barcelona and Liverpool attacker Luis Garcia has claimed that Newcastle United’s Ayoze Perez is worthy of a spot in the Spain squad.

Speaking to Sky Sports, via The Mag, Garcia said that Perez ‘definitely deserves a try’ as Spain continue to have problems filling their main striking position.

Perez has scored four Premier League goals for Newcastle this season, the last of which came against Huddersfield Town at the weekend.

In all, the 25-year-old has 40 goals in 184 appearances for Newcastle since arriving at the club from Tenerife in the summer of 2014.

The Premier League team’s fans have been on social media reacting to Garcia’s words and it has certainly thrown up an interesting debate.

Whilst there are many Newcastle supporters who agree with the Spaniard, others feel that the 5ft 10in ace is short of the level required to be an international footballer.
