Angel Gomes comments on Jesse Lingard’s Instagram post

[ad_pod ]

Jesse Lingard has been called up to Gareth Southgate’s Nations League squad despite having a poor season for Manchester United.

/Bxp8wlphYbK/

This prompted Angel Gomes – a player who is clearly influenced by Lingard and by the way he broke into the Manchester United side under Louis Van Gaal – to respond.

Gomes will be aspiring to be like Lingard and force himself into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans next season.

Lingard is in the England side to face the Netherlands on the 6th of June, but in truth has had a bad season for the Red Devils and is probably only included because Ruben Loftus-Cheek suffered a horrendous injury in Boston last-week.

If he is given the chance to play, though, this could be the 26-year-old’s opportunity to end his season in a positive way and look to build some momentum for what is likely to be a make-or-break season for the Warrington-born-man.

He will be turning 27 in December, a peak year for an outfield player, but this season was a poor one – he only scored five goals and registered four assists in 36 appearances.

In the previous campaign he scored 13 and registered seven assists in 48 appearances.

He will have to improve on this season or he could find his time at Old Trafford brought to an abrupt halt.

Backfired massively: Liverpool fans weren’t happy with Klopp’s Wijnaldum move

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans on Twitter have been discussing Jurgen Klopp’s use of Gini Wijnaldum against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

Klopp opted to use the Dutch international as a false nine when the Reds travelled to the Camp Nou on Wednesday, a move which backfired massively as he watched his side succumb to a 3-0 defeat to the Spanish champions, leaving them with a mountain to climb in the second leg.

Does your club have a legend who is criminally overrated? Fans answer this tough question in the video below…

Whilst that game is done and dusted, the Liverpool fans have been busy discussing it once again after the German boss offered an explanation to his thinking.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss revealed that Wijnaldum was surprised to learn he would be deputising in the role for Roberto Firmino, who was on the bench, whilst Klopp highlighted Wijnaldum’s energy and defensive qualities as the reason behind the move.

However, whilst that explanation makes some sense, the Liverpool supporters on Twitter were in agreement that it was a terrible decision…

Leicester’s pursuit of Kieran Tierney is sending out worrying message about Ben Chilwell

[ad_pod ]

According to The Scottish Sun, Leicester are admirers of Scottish left-back Kieran Tierney, but they will face competition from some of Europe’s top clubs if they try and sign the promising Celtic man.

What’s the word?

Tierney has been making huge waves in Scotland, quickly becoming one of the most promising full-backs in Britain. His performances for the Hoops have been hugely impressive and, therefore, it’s no surprise to see some top clubs throwing their names in the hat to sign him.

The Scottish Sun is claiming that Leicester and Arsenal are both admirers of the 21-year-old but they face competition from two Italian sides.

The report claims that the Scot is being lined up in a £20m swoop by Napoli whilst Inter Milan are another potential suitor.

However, Tierney is set to undergo a major double hernia operation at the end of the season which could be bad news for anyone wanting to sign him.

Resigned to seeing Chilwell leave?

Given Leicester already possess an excellent young left-back in Ben Chilwell, the Foxes’ interest in Tierney may seem somewhat questionable.

They won’t both fit into the same squad so it would be extremely likely that the 22-year-old would depart the King Power should Brendan Rodgers be plotting a reunion with Tierney.

Back in March, The Telegraph claimed that Manchester City were interested in Chilwell but would have to pay a world record fee for a full-back.

Should he leave then Tierney’s arrival would certainly soften the blow. But, the fact he doesn’t possess a high amount of experience at the top level and has problems with injury means he wouldn’t be the most ideal replacement.

As a result, letting Chilwell go could be disastrous. He’s become a real fan favourite at the club but, by holding an interest in Tierney, the Midlands side are clearly anticipating bids for one of their prized possessions.

Arguably, this is sending out the completely wrong message. It almost feels as though they’re resigned to losing one of their star men, rather than trying to hold onto him.

Since Claude Puel departed the air has felt far more positive at Leicester. Seeing Chilwell leave could change all that.

West Ham: Irfan Kahveci is the perfect successor to Mark Noble

If there’s one player in the West Ham team fans want to see remain with the club for their entire career, it’s Mark Noble.

The Hammers midfielder and captain has been one of the club’s most consistent performers since establishing himself as a first-team member in 2007 and has continued to be one of the supporters favourite players due to his commitment to West Ham, but it could soon be time for a change of personnel.

At 31, Noble is entering the twilight years of his career and has looked rusty in patches of the season, and Manuel Pellegrini has reportedly found his successor to the West Ham cult hero.

According to Sport Witness, the Hammers are interested in Istanbul Basaksehir playmaker Irfan Kahveci and that the club’s interest in the midfielder is the reason for the playmaker’s recent dip in form for the Turkish Super Lig title hopefuls.

It might seem like a signing out of left-field, but Kahveci’s credentials this season make him a reasonable target for West Ham this summer having started all but one game for Basaksehir this season in the central midfield of a 4-1-4-1 formation, in which the Turkish midfielder has scored four goals and assisted five playing behind striker Robinho.

Kahveci is a relative unknown in the English game and would be wildcard signing should Pellegrini go in for the 23-year-old, but the midfielder has shown he has the quality to impress in the Premier League and one day replace Noble as one of the starting central players for the Hammers.

His creativity and ability to chip in with occasional goals will make Kahveci a quick fan favourite in east London, and the Turk could be a cheap pickup for the Hammers if they decide to follow through with their interest in the Basaksehir midfielder.

West Ham fans, should Pellegrini go in for Kahveci this summer? Let us know!

No thank you: Liverpool fans don’t want James Rodriguez at the club

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they don’t want the club to sign James Rodriguez.

The 27-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan with Bayern Munich from Real Madrid, but the Bundesliga champions have decided not to take up their option to buy for £37m.

Luis Suarez certainly had no qualms about celebrating against his former employers in the video below…

Interestingly, the Colombian international never really got going at the Allianz Arena over the course of his loan spell, which is strange given his obvious quality and pedigree in the world of football.

The Reds are reportedly interested in signing the former Porto man after Bayern decided not to turn the loan into a permanent move, along with Manchester United, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.

Rodriguez scored 15 goals and recorded 20 assists in 67 games for the Bavarians; a player of his calibre is easily capable of amassing better statistics than that.

Despite their side’s interest, a number of Liverpool supporters on Twitter don’t want to sign the 2014 World Cup hero…

Transfer Focus: Rangers must bite on any offer for Kyle Lafferty

[ad_pod ]

Cypriot club Apollon Limassol are keen on making a move for Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty this summer, according to The Scottish Sun.

What’s the story?

The paper say that the European side tried to sign Lafferty last year before he made the switch from Tynecastle to Ibrox and are now confident of finally landing their man, having made initial contact with his representatives.

The Rangers striker’s contract does not expire until the end of next season, but the report states that he is now surplus to requirements at the club.

Whether the club will receive a fee for the player or not remains to be seen, but it’s clear he now has no future in Glasgow.

Why is he on the way out?

Lafferty returned to Rangers off the back of a successful spell at Hearts, where he scored 20 goals in 48 matches, providing a strong, physical threat in the final third that appeared to be perfectly suited to Scottish football.

His signing made sense at the time, but it rapidly became clear throughout 2018/19 that he wouldn’t be able to provide a dynamic enough contribution to fill in for Alfredo Morelos when needed.

He managed to score just five goals in all competitions, eventually usurped by the arriving Jermain Defoe, starting just one match since the turn of the year.

It’s fair to say he’s been a bit of a flop signing and with resources likely to be stretched thin at Ibrox this summer it makes zero sense to have him on the wage bill.

Rangers need to move him on by any means necessary and if Apollon Limassol are interested, the Gers should bite on the first offer.

Mark Warburton’s first comments as QPR boss should make pleasant reading for Eze and Osayi Samuel

[ad_pod ]

QPR finally gave the fans what they’ve been expecting for days when they announced the appointment of Mark Warburton as Steve McClaren’s successor at Loftus Road.

The Hoops have been under John Eustace’s wing since 1st April, when McClaren was given the sack, but former Brentford boss Warburton’s arrival gives the W12 outfit the bit of direction they’ve been missing in the last month.

The new manager wasted no time in laying out his plans for the club in his first interview and his comments should make pleasant reading for the likes of Bright Osayi-Samuel and Eberechi Eze, who had been pushed out to the fringes by McClaren.

What did he say?

Well, speaking to QPR’s official club website, Warburton said:

“I love seeing players who enjoy their football; players who don’t feel threatened and can dominate the football; players who can deal with making a mistake and don’t get weighed down by them.

“It’s about being brave in possession – because everyone is human and can make a mistake – and I want our first thought to be to play forward, to be positive and to split units.

The QPR keeper was giving it large to Bolton fans at the weekend. Find out who had the last laugh in the video below…

“I want us to have an attacking philosophy. Our work ethic has to be right, the desire has to be there and you have to be fit as well. That work side of it is so important.”

A good sign for the youngsters

McClaren’s objective at QPR was surely to get the best out of the younger players given the ongoing struggles facing the club off the pitch, but both Osayi-Samuel and Eze were nudged out of the starting XI by the time he was given the boot.

The duo have plenty of invention, flair and pace between them and are always looking to make things happen on the front foot. Of course, 21-year-old Osayi-Samuel’s finishing could do with some work while 20-year-old Eze may need to work a little harder off the ball, but the duo can expect to be given a clean slate and plenty of chances to prove themselves under Warburton given the new boss’ comments.

His emphasis on being brave and sympathising with players who make mistakes suggests he’s more than willing to place his faith in Eze and Osayi-Samuel, so QPR fans should look forward to seeing the exciting pairing in full flow next season.

Liverpool: A risky strategy over Divock Origi

Any striker hunt for Liverpool must have been postponed for the time being thanks to Divock Origi’s sudden impact.

Indeed, the Belgian might’ve barely started any games this season, yet his heroics against Barcelona proved the ability of a man worthy leading the Reds in attack.

Among all the post-season blues, one problem could arise for Liverpool. While Origi is seemingly more than happy to stay at Anfield, his current contract expires next year. This means, if the Reds want to keep the 25-year-old for a longer period, they’ll need to agree on a new deal quickly. However, another stumbling block comes in at this point.

According to reports from David Ornstein on BBC Radio Five Live, the Reds are not going to sell Origi this summer, but aren’t willing to hand him a new contract either. Apparently, they’re ready to lose him on a free next year, which would be a foolish thing to do considering his resurgence and newfound importance to the squad.

He adds pace, physical attributes and a predatorial vibe in the final third with his excellent finishing ability. Rather than delaying the inevitable, Klopp should hand him the new deal. After his impact this season, Origi is bound to get more chances next season and if he ends up scoring more important goals, his contract demands will get higher.

Liverpool should tie him to a reasonable contract now rather than having to negotiate a possibly inflated one later on. They’re playing with fire in gambling with the Belgian’s future, something which can end up forcing them to shell unnecessarily huge finances to retain his services for the long-term.

Liverpool fans, do you think Origi should be handed a new deal soon? Join the discussion by commenting below…
