Pundit urges QPR to sign Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah - Exclusive

Football FanCast’s EFL Spy has exclusively said that signing Eddie Nketiah could fire Queens Park Rangers into the top-six.

An outstanding end to 2020-2021 saw Mark Warburton’s side finish ninth, just nine points behind the play-off places.

However, Rangers badly struggled for goals throughout the campaign, with only Lyndon Dykes reaching double figures in all competitions.

Such were QPR’s goalscoring problems, Charlie Austin’s eight goals from January onwards made him their second top goal-getter.

With that in mind, Nketiah, who’s scored goals in the Premier League and with Leeds in the Championship previously, could add some much-needed firepower to the Rangers frontline.

The 22-year-old made 29 first-team appearances for Arsenal last season, although most of his game-time came in the cup competitions and the Europa League, meaning the youngster would surely benefit from another campaign out on loan in the second-tier.

Nketiah scored three times in 17 Championship appearances on loan at Leeds at the beginning of the 2019-2020 season.

The EFL insider believes a spell in the Championship could benefit him, telling FFC:

“Quality is needed for QPR to push for the playoffs this season, and with a few quid in the bank now you might see them go and get some quality from the Premier League.

“Someone like Arsenal young gun Eddie Nketiah, he could make a serious impact at QPR.”

Clarke loses his cool with journalist

ECB chairman Giles Clarke had to be physically separated from the Independent on Sunday cricket correspondent Stephen Brenkley at a dinner during the Nottingham Test, according to the Daily Mail.Brenkley, along with a few Test Match Special journalists, had been invited to dinner by Clarke. During the meal the conversation turned to Zimbabwe and the possibility that the UK government would refuse to allow them to tour England in 2009. At that point, the article stated, things grew increasingly heated until Clarke grabbed Brenkley by the collar. The pair had to be split up by Test Match Special administrator Shilpa Patel.”It was a thoroughly pleasant evening with some robust conversation on a number of matters,” Brenkley told the newspaper. “I know I have the ability to get people’s pin. No apology was asked for or received and we parted company great friends.”

Estamos no caminho certo – disse.

Nottingham Forest: Italians chase Ioannou

Nottingham Forest have had their fair share of players that have come and gone from the City Ground over the years.

The Reds finished 17th in the Championship in the 2020/21 season, in what was certainly a forgetful season for Chris Hughton and the club’s supporters.

It’s going to be an interesting summer ahead, as the former Brighton and Hove Albion boss looks to make changes ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.

Forest are set to take on Coventry City on the opening weekend of fixtures, in what could potentially be a tricky test for the Reds, as they look to get off to a winning start next term.

One player that is unlikely to be involved in the matchday squad for that clash against the Sky Blues is defender Nicholas Ioannou, who has found regular game time hard to come by at the City Ground in recent months.

The full-back signed for Nottingham Forest back in 2020 and has gone on to make just five appearances in total for the former Premier League side.

Ioannou spent part of the 2020/21 campaign out on loan with Cypriot side Aris Thessaloniki, and made ten appearances in total for them, before returning to the City Ground this summer.

The ‘deadwood’ needs clearing out

It remains to be seen if he has a future with Nottingham Forest, with Sky Sports (via Calciomercato) revealing that Ioannou as emerged as a potential transfer target for Serie B side Como 1907.

It is thought that a loan move is the most likely option, although the report doesn’t claim whether it’s a permanent or loan deal at this stage.

A clear-out of the ‘deadwood’ is certainly needed at Nottingham Forest, and if they can replace that ‘deadwood’ with smart signings over the summer, then it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see Forest mounting a serious push for a top-half finish this term under Hughton’s management.

They’ve got the makings of a solid squad there at this moment in time, with the likes of Joe Lolley, Lewis Grabban and Joe Worrall showing glimpses of their quality in recent seasons, although they’ve found consistency hard to find at times in their time with Forest.

They’re simply putting off the inevitable this summer

Ioannou hasn’t made an anywhere near good enough impact in his time with Forest though, and the club should be looking to cash in on him at the earliest of opportunities.

A loan move to Como 1907 this summer would only be putting off the inevitable permanent exit, and his reported £4,000 per week wages (according to Salary Sport) could be used on a better alternative, who will be keen to make a positive impact in the near future.

Ioannou has to be sold as he’s simply not good enough.

La Liga expert drops claim on Man City target Pau Torres

La Liga expert Euan McTear believes that Pau Torres may struggle with a step up to Manchester City from Villarreal.

City have been linked with a potential swoop for the central defender this summer.

The Athletic has reported that Torres has been identified as a potential replacement for Aymeric Laporte in case the Spain international decides to leave the Etihad Stadium.

Torres has a buyout clause of €65m (£55.8m) in his contract, per the report, and that may well be within the reach of Pep Guardiola’s side.

McTear believes that Torres is a more reliable defender than John Stones, who has seen his spell at City somewhat characterised by mistakes in recent seasons.

However, he accepts that Stones had to make the step up from Everton to City, suddenly playing in higher-profile games throughout the season and he thinks that the Villarreal star may well struggle in a similar way.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, he said: “Yeah, I think so. He doesn’t make as many mistakes as Stones but then that’s the thing, before Stones went to City, he never really made mistakes either but it’s that step up.

“Well, number one when you’re playing for City you’re going to have the ball more so there’s more chance to make mistakes and maybe the pressure with Pau Torres, he’s been at maybe the sixth or seventh team in La Liga.

“He’s from the area, he’s actually from the town and so he’s one of the ones who needs a good project if he wants to leave because he absolutely loves the club. He’s come through the academy but he’s never really had that pressure of playing in a Clasico or playing in a Manchester Derby or any huge, huge game like that.

“Maybe the Europa League run was the first time he had that kind of run, so yeah, Stones makes quite a few mistakes but that only really started to happen when he was at City, we don’t know if Torres will be the same.”

Everton: Tosun available for transfer

An update has emerged on Cenk Tosun, regarding Everton’s plans for him this summer…

What’s the talk?

According to The Athletic, Everton are prepared to listen to offers for Turkish international striker Cenk Tosun this summer as Rafa Benitez attempts to thin out his squad.

The report claims that Moise Kean could be given a chance to compete for a place in the side following his loan spell with PSG, sending Tosun further down the pecking order ahead of next season.

Time’s up

The time is up for Tosun at Everton. Marcel Brands must now ruthlessly axe the flop and cash in on him as quickly as possible. Everton need to move him on swiftly and not worry too much about how much they get for him, in order to get his wages off the bill.

Even if that means sending him out on loan again with the club taking him paying the majority – if not all – of his salary as he has been rinsing Farhad Moshiri dry.

Tosun has been on £60k-per-week throughout his time on Merseyside and has done little to repay the club, scoring just 11 goals in 58 matches. He has earned roughly £10.9m in wages in his three-and-a-half seasons at the club to date and that figure will jump up to £14m by the end of the 2021/22 campaign unless they can find a new home for him in the transfer window.

He reportedly cost £27m upon his arrival from Besiktas in 2018 and it seems incredibly unlikely that they will be able to recoup much of that figure, with Transfermarkt valuing him at £4.5m. Former Premier League striker Darren Bent recently said that Tosun has not worked out at Goodison Park and believes that the club will need to take a loss on him this summer.

He told Football Insider:

“Cenk Tosun just hasn’t worked out for Everton, he’s shown flashes and moments where he can score goals and to be fair to him, he’s never really been given a real run of games.

“I know when he first arrived he played a little bit but as far as a real good run, I don’t think he’s got that so, unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out and they probably are going to have to take a loss.”

Therefore, Everton must take the hit on Tosun and move him on to any club willing to take him. He has been bleeding Moshiri dry with his huge wages without contributing much to the team, with nine Premier League goals to his name for the club in almost four years.

This is why he must be ruthlessly axed by Brands.

AND in other news, Benitez can axe Everton “liability” by signing 6 ft 4 giant who’s “performed miracles”…

Tottenham: Fabrizio Romano issues update on Spurs’ pursuit of Nuno Espirito Santo

Tottenham’s Director of Football Fabio Paratici has jetted into England to hold talks with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo about becoming the club’s new manager, according to Fabrizio Romano.

THE LOWDOWN: SPURS SET SIGHTS ON 47-YEAR-OLD AS MOURINHO’S SUCCESSOR

Spurs have already been turned down by nine managers already this summer, with Ryan Mason remaining in temporary charge of the club at this moment in time.

The Telegraph have reported that Spurs are closing in on appointing Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager, with the 47-year-old leaving Wolves at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Spurs finished seventh in the Premier League last term, and will be eager to push for a top-four finish next term, regardless of who they’re managed by moving forwards.

THE LATEST: KEY FIGURE JETS IN FOR FURTHER TALKS….

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham’s Director of Football Paratici has flown into England to hold further talks with Nuno and his representatives over a move to the club.

It seems as though the former Wolves boss is Spurs’ main target heading into the new league campaign now, as they look to find Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor.

“Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici arrived in London in the last hours. Talks on with Nuno Espirito Santo and his representatives,” Romano tweeted.

With The Telegraph reporting that an agreement is close as well, it seems as though Spurs might have got their main in Espirito Santo.

THE VERDICT: HE COULD BE A SHREWD APPOINTMENT BY SPURS….

This could turn out to be a smart appointment by Spurs, but you can’t help but feel that he wasn’t their first-choice target this summer.

The approaches to other manages like Antonio Conte and Mauricio Pochettino will have been hugely frustrating for both Daniel Levy and the club’s supporters.

Spurs need stability moving forwards though, and Espirito Santo could be the manager that can do just that, having impressed with Wolves over the years, finishing 7th in consecutive seasons before injuries took their toll this term.

If the club can give him time to build a long-term project at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, then it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Spurs challenging higher up the Premier League table in the future.

Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura cruise to One-day tournament (Associations) Semi-finals

One-day tournament (Associations): Match Report

Mahmood Ahmad05-May-2001Rawalpindi and Sheikhupura maintained their winning streak in the fourth round of the One-day tournament (Associations), winning comprehensively their respective matches in Pool A and Pool B to cruise into the semi-final stage of the competition.Inspired by a powerful display of batting by Nauman Aman and Naved Ashraf, Rawalpindi thrashed Lahore Whites by an impressive margin of 167 runs in a Pool A match played at National Stadium, Karachi.Put into bat by the opposition, Rawalpindi posted a commanding 288 for 5 on the board, with Nauman and Naved getting quick-fire fifties. Opening the innings for the winners, Nauman added 68 with Hashim Iqbal on his way to magnificent 78 off 86 ball, which contained 9 fours and two sixes.Naved Ashraf, batting two down, was even more belligerent in his stroke play, as he hit 5 fours and half a dozen sixes in his 81-ball innings. He was, however, a bit unfortunate to miss a well-deserved century by just one run, despite remaining not out at the end of the innings.Lahore Whites were expected to put up a valiant fight when their batsmen came out to bat, having won their three previous matches on the trot. However, they just caved in under pressure to bundle out for paltry 121 in 32.1 overs, with a top score of 24 by Sohail Idrees.Naeem Akhtar and Najaf Shah bowled superbly for Rawalpindi, getting 3 and 4 wickets each, respectively, for 14 and 35 runs. They were well supported by Naved Ashraf and Iftikhar Mahmood who got one wicket each for 8 and 6.Sheikhupura’s victory over Sargodha, in Pool B, was not as convincing as Rawalpindi’s over Lahore Whites, yet it proved adequate to ensure them a place in the semi-finals.Chasing a modest 202 for victory, Sheikhupura lost wickets at regular intervals. However, it was due to a gritty knock of 102 off only 63 balls by Imran Nazir that helped them earn the eventual honours. After hammering a magnificent 148 in only the previous match, Imran Nazir, discarded for the tour of England, gave an adequate display of his batting prowess. He hit 15 fours and 3 sixes to lead his side almost single-handedly to victory. After the departure of Imran at 161 in the 24th over, Mohammad Haroon (32 off 40 balls, 7 fours) and Zubair Watto (15 off 29 balls, 1 four) added 44 for the unconquered 7th wicket to steer their through.
