Everton predicted XI vs Norwich

Everton will travel to Carrow Road this afternoon as they seek to take their first three point win of the year in the Premier League, and Rafa Benitez’s side are looking like they’re in good shape to do so with the return of important players and three new signings.

Richarlison and Yerry Mina were spotted back in training this week, and Benitez took to his pre-match press conference to confirm that they would be available in terms of being fit enough to be picked for the travelling squad today.

The Spanish manager opened up about the returning players;

“All the others were training and now we have to treat them carefully. At the moment they are fine, then it is up to us to see who can be available for his game or the next games.”

It’s unclear as to whether Benitez will throw his newly returned back into the team, but with the side just six points off the relegation zone currently, the Toffees manager will surely be mindful in selecting his best available team to secure the wins and climb back into a more comfortable position in the league table as soon as possible.

With that being said, this is how Football Fancast expects Everton to set up against Norwich City today…

With five changes to the team that beat Hull City, we expect Jordan Pickford, Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mina and Abdoulaye Doucouré to be included in the team that will take on the challenge at Norwich City this afternoon.

Richarlison and Mina are back in our predicted line up, but Benitez will potentially use the opportunity of playing the bottom of the league Canaries, to use his substitutions throughout the game, with Mina unlikely to play a full 90 minutes after being out injured for a prolonged period this season.

It is likely that Andre Gomes will be axed from the team, with Doucoure returning to the starting line up, despite the £120k-p/w gem scoring against Hull in the FA Cup victory this week, Benitez clearly doesn’t favour the Portuguese midfielder, giving him only two Premier League starts this season so far.

We predicted that Vitaliy Mykolenko will be the only new signing in the starting line up after Lucas Digne was sold to Aston Villa this week, but again there could be an opportunity for youngster Nathan Patterson to gain his Premier League debut later in the game, replacing Coleman at right back, depending on how the game plays out.

Everton have the opportunity to snatch their second away win of the season against Norwich this afternoon, who have lost their last five games and lost 14 of their 20 games so far this season.

Liverpool fans slam Trent vs Leicester

Many Liverpool fans were left slamming the display of Trent Alexander-Arnold in their 1-0 loss away at Leicester City in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

The right-back was partially at fault for the only goal of the game, as he let Ademola Lookman run off of him into the penalty box to tuck the ball away past Alisson at the near post.

It pretty much summed up his night, as he seemed to struggle like many other Reds throughout the match, losing out on all five of his duels, while he also failed to record a single shot on goal, dribble, blocked shot or tackle (SofaScore).

Alexander-Arnold was also unsuccessful with 11 of his crosses, and lost possession no fewer than on 32 separate occasions in total, by far the most out of any player on the pitch (SofaScore).

Liverpool fans slam Alexander-Arnold

These members of the Anfield faithful slammed his performance on Twitter, with one Red even going as far as claim that he was a ‘weak link’:

“Little or no mention of Trent for the Leicester goal. Mistakes happen and poor decisions are made in every game of football but laziness is inexcusable. He just refuses to track Lookman. Very poor.”

Credit: @ats31289

“Terrible performance tonight but let’s be honest Trent was awful for me one of his worst games in a #LFC shirt. He didn’t track his man or run back it’s as if he was injured he just didn’t seem bothered. Simply not good enough Klopp needs to have a strong word”

“Absolutely awful display from Liverpool. Mane’s best is well behind him now, must look to upgrade. Firmino offered nothing coming on. Trent/Matip terrible in the lead up to the goal. City’s title to lose now.”

“Very poor night from Liverpool tonight. 6pts behind City is a big gap. Trent, Mane, Ox were all well off the pace. When the pen didn’t go in it felt like the night wasn’t going to be our night.”

“We can talk about Mane and Henderson but they’ve been poor a lot. Salah and Trent absolutely stunk the place out. Leicester have no right to win with 10 players missing. Rubbish. Never seen subs make less of an impact.”

“Our inability to adapt to these games will cost us. Trent was targeted as our weak link and it’s proved fruitful as defensively he was poor this evening”

McAvennie thrilled by Wijnaldum claim

Speaking to West Ham Zone, former Irons striker Frank McAvennie has been left thrilled by a transfer update involving Paris-Saint Germain star Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Lowdown: West Ham gifted Wijnaldum chance…

As per 90min, a major transfer claim emerged last week with West Ham namedropped among the clubs who have refused to rule out signing the former Liverpool star on loan in January.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-updates/” title=”West Ham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, according to their sources, the Hammers and manager David Moyes have been approached by intermediaries and gifted the chance to sign Wijnaldum along with other Premier League clubs.

Despite just signing for PSG after leaving Anfield on a free transfer, it appears the Netherlands international could return to the Premier League as McAvennie shares an excited reaction.

The Latest: McAvennie thrilled…

Speaking to WHZ, the ex-West Ham frontman simply ‘can’t believe’ that they are being linked and goes on to say he would be a ‘great addition’ to the side.

McAvennie explained:

“He’s a big player, I just can’t believe West Ham are getting linked in the same breath as this boy because he’s a wonderful talent.

“If West Ham could get him he would be a great addition to the squad.

“I don’t know where he would play, with [Declan] Rice and [Tomas] Soucek in midfield. Maybe he would play Soucek’s role with Rice, or perhaps they could change to play a three in midfield.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

Signing Wijnaldum on a temporary deal with little cost to West Ham could be a shrewd move, with the only major cost being his reported £165,000–per-week wages.

The latter factor makes this a difficult move to pull off considering the club’s current highest earner, Kurt Zouma, is on around £120,000-per-week by comparison.

However, the 85-cap star would certainly add a degree of real quality going forward and may even come as an alternative to Jesse Lingard if West Ham can’t win the race with Newcastle.

He can play in the attacking midfield positions and has often proved deadly when called upon by Pochettino this season, netting two goals in the Champions League group stages.

There are certainly incentives to sign Wijnaldum, but the logistics of his salary could make it difficult.

Elliott keen to do more with the ball

New Zealand allrounder Grant Elliott has expressed his keenness to make a bigger contribution with the ball in the second Test against Pakistan in Wellington. Elliott bowled just two overs in New Zealand’s 32-run win in Dunedin due to his knee injury, leaving Shane Bond, Daniel Vettori, Iain O’Brien and Chris Martin with an additional responsibility to fill in for the fifth bowler.Vettori had admitted the extent of the workload the four bowlers had to bear, in having to bowl out Pakistan twice, was huge. New Zealand can expect the physical demands of winning the next Test to be greater, especially as their bowlers are recovering from injuries. Bond is missing the big toe-nail on his left foot, Vettori is nursing an injured shoulder and O’Brien is awaiting scans on his dislocated finger.”It definitely hurts me not being able to do that (bowl) because you saw how hard the bowlers toiled,” Elliot told . “It’s tendonitis. I’ve just been battling with that a bit. I had it in Wellington but hopefully I can take a load off the bowlers. It’s about (bowling) loads and how the inflammation is at the time. It has good days and bad days.”Eliott has managed just two wickets at an average of 66 in Tests but has bowled more often, and has had more success, in the ODI format, taking 17 wickets at 22.11. While establishing himself as a solid middle-order batsman in limited-overs cricket, Elliott is still fighting for a long-term slot in Tests. “It’s runs and wickets at the end of the day,” he said. “For me, every Test innings I play I’m looking to establish my position and stamp my authority on the game. Hopefully it will be in this Test.”The second Test begins on December 3.

Back injury forces Taylor out of tour

Jerome Taylor has been ruled out of the remainder of the West Indies-Australia series with a back strain

Alex Brown30-Nov-2009West Indies have been dealt another heavy blow on an already difficult tour, with confirmation senior paceman Jerome Taylor has been ruled out for the remainder of the series with a back strain. Clyde Butts, West Indies’ chairman of selectors, said Taylor would be sent home from Australia with a decision on his replacement to be made on Tuesday.Even if a fast bowler is called into the squad in place of Taylor, there is little chance he will be ready for the second Test in Adelaide, beginning on Friday, due to flight time and acclimatisation. That will leave the tourists with a highly inexperienced attack for a match that could decide the fate of the Frank Worrell Trophy.”It is my understanding [Taylor] is coming back home,” Butts told Cricinfo. “We haven’t made a decision yet [about his replacement] but we should know more by tomorrow.”Taylor managed just nine overs at the Gabba before leaving the field with soreness in his left hip. He was unable to resume his place in the bowling line-up on the second day, leaving rookies Kemar Roach and Ravi Rampaul to shoulder the fast-bowling duties along with allrounder Dwayne Bravo. Scans subsequently revealed a lower back strain.Taylor’s withdrawal is the latest setback to hit West Indies on a tour that is lurching towards disaster. Chris Gayle’s interrupted preparation, Ramnaresh Sarwan’s back injury and a crushing innings defeat at the Gabba have given touring supporters little cause for cheer. West Indies’ losing streak in Australia now stands at nine Tests, dating back to 1997. They have lost 15 of their last 17 matches to the Australians home and abroad.Gavin Tonge, the uncapped paceman from Antigua, was considered an unlucky omission for the Brisbane Test and is favoured to make his debut in Adelaide. Hopes of Fidel Edwards making a return to the squad appear remote, with the region’s premier fast bowler currently without a central contract after defying the medical advice of his board to play in the Champions League Twenty20 tournament for his IPL franchise, Deccan Chargers. He aggravated a back injury during the tournament. “It is my understanding he is still not available,” Butts said.West Indies did receive some good news over the weekend, with Sarwan reporting good progress in his recovery from the back injury that sidelined him from the Brisbane Test. Team sources are confident the veteran batsman will be available to play in Adelaide.

Wilson not eyeing Rangers swoop for Lampard

An update has emerged on Frank Lampard, regarding Rangers’ thoughts on potentially appointing him as their new manager.

What’s the talk?

According to Gers media partner Hearts & Hand Podcast, the club are not interested in a deal to bring the ex-Chelsea coach to Glasgow to replace his former England teammate Steven Gerrard in the dugout.

They Tweeted: “Just spoke to club: Lampard and Knutsen not on radar. Gio stuff already broken by Sky. Rangers engage with certain media outlets and not others. Don’t pay attention to the ones on the outside – they haven’t a clue.”

Delight

This update from a Rangers insider will surely leave fans delighted as it means that Ross Wilson has avoided a disaster. We published an article urging the Gers chief to avoid Lampard after it was reported that the club were set to hold talks with the 43-year-old over the role, however, this twist now suggests that was not the case.

His managerial C.V does not suit Rangers’ needs at this moment in time and he would represent a gamble Wilson does not need to take. The Scottish giants are currently top of the Scottish Premiership and need an experienced coach with a history of winning to ensure that they get over the line and are able to build on what Gerrard created at Ibrox.

Gerrard ended Celtic’s dominance of Scottish football by winning the league last season and has left the club four points clear of the Hoops after 13 games in the current campaign. This shows that he has built the foundations of a winning team and bringing in a coach who has not proven that he can win trophies in the dugout could derail their attempts to be the dominant force in Glasgow long-term.

Lampard has only managed two full seasons in his career, one of which came in the second-tier of English football with Derby, and is yet to win a single honour. He lost in the play-off final with the Championship outfit and in the FA Cup final with Chelsea, whilst finishing sixth and fourth in their respective divisions.

This means that he does not have the requisite experience required to suggest that he is the right man to come in and see out the job for Rangers this season. Therefore, fans will be delighted that Wilson is not even considering him as an option.

Gold drops exciting Spurs transfer claim

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to target a new forward during the January transfer window…

What’s the word?

That’s according to football.london reporter Alasdair Gold, who delivered a fresh claim to supporters during a recent Q&A.

When asked if an additional striker would be a priority in the upcoming window, he replied:

“Definitely.

“Dane Scarlett will get minutes here and there until then, and that will help the 17-year-old’s development, but it’s one area of the squad where too much pressure is being put on two players to share the load and in [Harry] Kane and [Heung-min] Son. They’re players who are too key to lose to injuries through overuse.

“Then it’s over to that age-old issue of finding a striker of the required quality in the January window who is willing to come and play back-up to Kane.”

Much needed addition

Indeed, another frontman is exactly what Nuno Santo needs heading into the second half of the season, especially considering the fact that he was reportedly keen to deploy a two-man attack upon arrival in north London.

Either way, it’s the one position Spurs lack serious depth in.

An injury to Kane could seriously curtail their campaign, which is the last thing they’ll want after clinching three straight victories in all competitions, in which the England international has found his scoring boots with four goals.

It’s a situation familiar to the club. In January 2020, he picked up a lengthy injury and Spurs soon crashed out of the FA Cup and the Champions League, and also slipped rapidly down the table.

Last season, former Lilywhites boss Jose Mourinho had a suitable and cost-effective backup in Benfica loanee Carlos Vinicius, who has since signed for PSV Eindhoven.

Whilst in previous years, the north Londoners have been stacked in the attacking department. At one point, Spurs had the services of Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Emmanuel Adebayor in the very same squad.

Of course, it’s a more difficult task these days as you have to find someone willing to play second fiddle to Kane but opportunities wouldn’t be limited. Spurs are still in all domestic cup competitions and are among the favourites to secure the UEFA Europa Conference League, so there are plenty of fixtures ahead.

Therefore, this latest development should leave many around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium absolutely buzzing and excited ahead of January.

New sporting director Fabio Paratici has already shown his muscle in the transfer market, signing the likes of Emerson, Bryan Gil and Cristian Romero, so he could well deliver once again with the addition of a new forward.

Whether Spurs manage to secure that man remains to be seen but it’s certainly an encouraging prospect.

Mortaza raring to go in World Twenty20

Having played only one IPL game, Mashrafe Mortaza can’t wait to get back on the field

Cricinfo staff30-May-2009

Mashrafe Mortaza had a poor IPL, conceding 58 runs in the one match he played•Bangladesh Cricket Board

Mashrafe Mortaza, the Bangladesh fast bowler, who played only one match in IPL, can’t wait to get back on the field when the World Twenty20 begins on June 5 in England.Mortaza warmed the Kolkata Knight Riders bench for nearly a month after being bought for an unexpected US$600,000 and then conceded 58 runs in four overs for no wickets. However Mortaza said it was a great experience to mix with the top players in the IPL. “Now I want to play and do well for my country,” Mortaza was quoted telling . “That is the only thing on my mind.”Mohammad Ashraful, the Bangladesh captain, said the team relied on Mortaza to improve on their eighth position in the last World Cup. “He is a kind of player you turn to when in trouble and invariably he will deliver whether it is with the bat or ball. The whole team relies on him. He is our superstar.”The coach Jamie Siddons was confident the English conditions would favour Mortaza’s bowling. “Mashrafe is obviously one of our key players.”Bangladesh begin their World Cup campaign in Trent Bridge against India on June 6. They won two of their three warm-up games, beating Netherlands by 64 runs, Scotland by six wickets, while losing to New Zealand by four wickets.Mortaza picked up three wickets for 54 runs in the matches.

Phil Hay makes Jack Harrison injury claim

Leeds United winger Jack Harrison’s inconsistent form has been affected by a recent rib injury, according to reliable journalist Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Harrison struggling for form

While deprived of several important players through injury, the Whites still couldn’t get their second Premier League win of the season on Saturday but their 1-1 draw at home to Wolves felt like a positive following Rodrigo’s last-gasp penalty.

Harrison struggled to make an impact at Elland Road, though, and he has now played seven league games this season and not registered a goal or an assist.

[freshpress-quiz id=“375277″]

The Latest: Hay reveals injury news

While the winger’s form has been disappointing compared to last season, when he got eight top-flight goals and assists apiece, there could be a good reason for the drop-off.

According to The Athletic’s Hay, the 24-year-old has been playing with a rib injury which has affected his performance level. The journalist stated: “Harrison has had a rib injury recently. Very little been made of it and I don’t know how much of a factor it is but he is struggling for form.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-21/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Pressure to perform

Harrison now finds himself under more pressure than ever to keep his place, with Raphinha and Dan James also representing strong wide options.

Last season, he and Raphinha were the undisputed go-to starters in those positions, but the Welshman’s arrival from Manchester United has increased the competition significantly.

All three actually played against Wolves, but Marcelo Bielsa may not always be that bold and Harrison will need to improve if he wants to keep starting regularly. Hopefully he overcomes his current injury and produces his best form again in the near future. Leeds could certainly do with it right now.
