Spurs legend tells Levy how to keep Kane

Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts has told Daniel Levy that he must hand Harry Kane a new contract making him the best-paid player in the Premier League, in a stunning claim to The Transfer Tavern in an exclusive interview.

Sky Sports News have reported that the England captain has asked to leave Spurs this summer amid potential interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea.

It remains to be seen if he is allowed to leave, as he has three years left on his current contract.

Roberts, though, thinks that chairman Levy could convince Kane to remain at the club under one condition.

Indeed, he believes that a new deal making him the highest-paid player in England would be a boon to the forward.

The current highest-paid player in the league is Gareth Bale, per Spotrac, although he is on loan at the club and his £600,000-per-week salary is likely being paid primarily by Real Madrid.

Kevin De Bruyne, the Manchester City midfielder, is the highest-paid player solely under contract at a Premier League club, earning £385,000-per-week, per Spotrac.

Kane is currently said to be earning £200,000-per-week.

Speaking exclusively to TT, Roberts said: “If it was me, if I was Daniel Levy, I would go to Harry Kane and I would offer him to be the best paid player in the Premier League.”

Spurs must seal Rodgers and Andersen

Tottenham Hotspur may be without a permanent manager right now, but it seems full steam ahead of their summer transfer plans…

What’s the word?

According to the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Spurs are in pole position to sign Joachim Andersen following Fulham’s relegation to the Championship.

The 24-year-old is due to return to his parent club Lyon at the end of the season before he is likely to be sold in the region of £20m, though Daniel Levy is facing stiff competition from arch-rivals Arsenal.

However, Spurs do seem like a plausible destination for the Danish centre-back. Eurosport’s Dean Jones added fuel to the fire with his comments on a recent episode of the ‘Touchline Talk’ podcast.

“To be honest, I think Arsenal face a battle to get him. From what I’ve heard, Tottenham are definitely in pole position to get him,” he said.

“They’ve monitored him for quite a long time. At least three years he’s been on their radar and they’ve been considering a move for him. I think, from what I’ve been told, his performances at Fulham have just convinced them that this is the guy they need to go for.”

Imagine him and Rodgers

It is no secret that Spurs are looking to bolster their backline, irrespective of who takes over from Jose Mourinho.

As per the ever-reliable Alasdair Gold at football.london, the North London side are looking for a new central defensive leader to spearhead their back four after a clear lack of cohesion and leadership throughout the season.

He would also ideally be one of two new specific additions to that role.

Andersen is certainly an interesting candidate but he will need the right manager to help continue his impressive progression in the English top-flight.

Of course, his current manager Scott Parker has huge claims in this regard and according to Football Insider, the 40-year-old will have talks with the club in the coming days.

However, fellow managerial target Brendan Rodgers, who Spurs have not given up hope of securing just yet, would be absolutely ideal given his proven track record in developing young players.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast in March, Dean Windass claimed the 48-year-old is “unbelievable” for his transformation of zero-to-hero striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

Players like James Maddison, James Justin, Wesley Fofana and Harvey Barnes are several other examples of his fine work in recent times.

Andersen appears to be a more commanding and reliable defender than any of Spurs’ current options, managing more aerial duels won (3.2) and interceptions made (1.4) per game, via WhoScored.

This season, the Cottagers loanee has been lauded as “absolutely sensational” and “magnificent” whilst ‘The 2 Robbies’ podcast gave a glowing verdict over his leadership qualities, especially as he’s still young for a centre-back.

“He’s 24 years of age – he’s a man back there. He can win it, he can play, looks like he’s got a little bit about him to organise those in and around him,” he said,” claimed ex-Wimbledon star Robbie Earle.

Pairing up Rodgers and Andersen this summer would certainly be a massive statement to the rest of the league, and one that would kickstart an exciting new era at the club.

Levy must swoop for both at all costs.

Tottenham make Kalajdzic enquiry

According to a report by Fussball Transfers, via Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur have ‘knocked’ on the door for VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic in an enquiry – with the Lilywhites now officially joining the race for his signature.

Kalajdzic, who stands at a towering 6 foot 6, appears to be on the radar of many clubs as his exploits in the Bundesliga attract attention.

Tottenham enquiry for Kalajdzic emerges

The 23-year-old has scored 15 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions for Stuttgart so far and is apparently valued at £15 million – very reasonable when taking into account his form and age (Eurosport).

This has prompted Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy to launch an enquiry or ‘knock’ at the door – but the Lilywhites may face real competition as the Austrian is in ‘high demand’.

However, the Bundesliga side aren’t prepared to surrender him to interested parties that easily – with Fussball Transfers (via Sport Witness) relaying they will need ‘convincing’ to part ways this summer.

Transfer Tavern take

Given his exploits over 2020/2021, alongside his plethora of plaudits from those in the media, Kalajdzic could be worth the effort.

He has been described as an ‘Ibrahimovic-machine’ as he continues to draw comparisons with some of world football’s most towering and deadly forwards.

Among those names, he has even been compared to Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland (The Daily Express) – and the mooted £15 million fee amid uncertain financial times comes as a real motivator and possible bargain.

Tottenham chiefs admire Lewis Dunk

According to a report by reliable Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold, Brighton defender Lewis Dunk has admirers behind the scenes at Spurs – with the Lilywhites eyeing up possible defensive options ahead of the 2021/2022 season.

Dunk, who has been a mainstay under Seagulls boss Graham Potter this campaign, starting 26 league matches, is apparently on the a list of targets for Spurs as Gold shares news.

Tottenham chiefs eyeing Dunk

Indeed, it is believed that the 29-year-old has admirers within the north London club, coming as Tottenham and the board sound out defensive options.

As Gold explains, Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy are eager to sign a real leader at the back – with Brighton defender Dunk now emerging as a target.

The 6 foot 3 titan has averaged 3.1 clearances per 90 in the league this season and stands out as a composed head on mature shoulders with his 89% pass accuracy out from the back (WhoScored).

While Dunk doesn’t fit the usual age profile of Tottenham targets, Gold explains that his consistent performances in the league have marked him out – not to mention the fact he is homegrown.

Tottenham’s apparent biggest roadblock is his potential price tag considering he signed a new five-year deal for Brighton last summer – but Transfermarkt currently rate him at around £22.5 million.

Transfer Tavern take

Lauded as a ‘genius’ by former Spurs player and ex-Premier League boss Gus Poyet on Sky Sports (via football daily), there certainly are aspects of Dunk’s game to admire, but it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites shore up this interest with a concrete move.

Liverpool have to sign Donyell Malen

Liverpool could be set to bolster their attacking options with the signing of PSV hitman Donyell Malen.

According to Calciomercato, the Reds are interested in the prospect of swooping for the Dutchman at some point in the near future in what would be an excellent transfer.

A product of the Arsenal youth set-up, Malen has thrived in his time back in his home country.

He has made 108 appearances in all competitions for the club since his arrival in 2017, netting 50 goals and providing a further 22 assists.

The 22-year-old is also in the midst of his most lethal season thus far, having struck 14 times in the Eredivisie.

His quality has also come to the fore on the European stage, too, hitting five goals in just eight UEFA Europa League appearances in 2020/21.

Should he presumably play second-fiddle to current first-choice Anfield forward Roberto Firmino, he will certainly be a better prospect than Divock Origi.

Throughout this season, Malen has averaged 3.4 shots per game, 0.8 key passes, and 1.3 dribbles per match according to WhoScored. The fact that he is confident enough to consistently try his luck and take players on only bodes well for a Liverpool side usually famed for its attacking style of football.

When compared to Malen, Origi’s number almost pale into insignificance. Albeit in limited opportunities this season under Jurgen Klopp, the Belgian is averaging just 0.7 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per game.

Last week, Neil Jones of Goal reported that Origi is for sale this summer and if he does leave, then Malan could be the ideal replacement.

The stats indicate that the Dutchman would certainly improve Liverpool’s squad and rated at just £22.5m, it is certainly an affordable and attractive deal.

After all, having signed the likes of Luis Suarez and cult hero Dirk Kuyt from Ajax and Feyenoord respectively, Malen could well become another Eredivisie success story on Merseyside.

Fewer touches than Burge: SAFC gem who made 3 passes all night badly let Johnson down - opinion

Over the last few years, Sunderland has been a rotten football club to support. They have suffered relegation twice and promotion feels like a distant dream.

Under the ownership of Stewart Donald, things went pear-shaped. They were spending vast sums of money that the club couldn’t afford and they’d become one of the laughing stocks of the EFL.

However, in 2021, there is a very different feel to the Mackems. They have won their first silverware for 48 years and after defeating Accrington 2-0 on Wednesday evening, they are now third in the table.

Lee Johnson has engineered an incredible run with the Black Cats winning seven of their last eight matches in the league.

It feels like now or never in terms of promotion and they’re building up ahead of steam at just the right time. Their win at Accrington was scrappy but they managed to get the job done as goals from Charlie Wyke and Ross Stewart sealed the points.

After their EFL Trophy final last weekend, Johnson made changes, one of which saw Jack Diamond come into the XI.

He has been one of the real winners of the new manager’s time at the Stadium of Light so far. When he came into the team properly in December, he offered something that Sunderland didn’t have; the ability to stretch opponents and get in behind.

Indeed, we saw that when he was introduced late on at Wembley on Sunday. He got the Black Cats up the pitch with his raw pace and frantic energy.

Unfortunately, he was rather disappointing against Accrington in midweek, being hauled off at half time after a very dismal opening 45 minutes.

The bitty nature of the game didn’t suit Diamond at all, and as a result, he struggled significantly to get into proceedings.

He departed the field having had just 18 touches of the ball, a number that would ultimately fall below goalkeeper Lee Burge’s tally for the evening. From those touches, he conceded possession on nine occasions, leading to a forgetful night for the youngster.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-sunderland-news-and-gossip” title=” Latest Sunderland news and gossip!”]

Strikingly, Diamond made just three passes in the entire time he was on the pitch. That is a shocking tally, one that was easily the worst of any Sunderland player to start the game.

It was telling, therefore, than his substitute scored the opening goal of the game. Diamond was replaced by Stewart at the break and the Scot popped up with a crucial debut goal.

The former has made great strides since breaking into the Mackems’ first-team but with their new signing now back from injury and immediately in the goals, he’ll need to keep a close eye over his shoulder.

Diamond will undoubtedly have better nights than this; he’ll just have to eradicate this one quickly from his mind.

Na corda bamba! Argel tem cargo em xeque, e Inter mira técnico, diz rádio

O tropeço do Internacional diante do Lajeadense fez o clima pesar no Beira-Rio.
