They completed their seventh straight win, and became the first team to ever win four successive Tests by an innings
The Report by Sidharth Monga24-Nov-2019It took India about 47 minutes on the third day to become the first team in Test cricket to win four straight matches by an innings. At 968 balls, this was the shortest Test with an outright result in India, beating the 1028 balls against Afghanistan last year. The win took India’s winning streak to their longest: seven. The most incredible statistic, though, was that this was India’s first home Test win without a single wicket from a spinner. It was only their second such win overall, after Johannesburg in 2018.The only man missing out on a great day for statistics was Ishant Sharma, who started the day one wicket short of registering his best match figures and only his second 10-wicket match haul. There were four wickets standing, including a hamstrung Mahmudullah. Umesh Yadav bolted past Ishant for the innings, taking three wickets, and Mahmudullah couldn’t make it to bat again. That gave Umesh his second Test five-for.The tail was never going to deny India, with the lower order backing away frequently against the unsettling pace of the fast bowlers. Overnight half-centurion Mushfiqur Rahim was going to be the only resistance, and it ended with a clever slower ball as he looked for quick runs.
Tottenham, lead by technical director Johan Lange, are thought to be moving "early" for a £148,000-per-week star this summer.
Spurs eyeing Conor Gallagher and other midfielders
Spurs have been tipped with interest in a host of fresh faces later this year, as the club seek to back manager Ange Postecoglou.
Ange now wants to sign two stars from the same club for Tottenham
The Lilywhites could be set for a double swoop.
ByEmilio Galantini Mar 1, 2024
The Lilywhites now want a star winger as one of their major signings for 2024, according to reliable journalist Miguel Delaney, but reports also surround the possible addition of a new central midfield player.
Chelsea star Conor Gallagher is a name who's been continuously mentioned as a target for Tottenham, with Matt Law of The Telegraph recently writing that they will make a "firm move" for the 24-year-old if he doesn't extend his Chelsea stay.
In the event Gallagher puts pen to paper on a new deal, though, it is believed they have alternative options in their thinking. Reporter Dean Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport recently, suggested Everton's James Garner may well be one of them.

"Garner is probably a Gallagher alternative that Tottenham might look at," said Jones. Obviously, it's very early days to be analysing the summer transfer window. We know that Tottenham are still waiting to see if Conor Gallagher does become available because there is a feeling still that he might and the longer that contract situation goes on, the longer they will believe that something might be able to happen.
"But if Conor Gallagher does end up signing a contract extension, they need to have a list of names they immediately turn to. And I guess James Garner kind of fits the profile somewhat so yeah, an interesting one to look out for."
Another high-profile name to be linked is Juventus star Adrien Rabiot, with the Frenchman's contract expiring this summer.
Tottenham moving "early" for Rabiot
Italian newspaper Correire dello Sport, via Sport Witness, have an update this week. They claim Tottenham are moving "early" to sign Rabiot given his potential free agent status and are "testing the waters", alongside other interested sides. The £148,000-per-week star has made 22 Serie A appearances for Juve this season, scoring four goals and assisting three others.
Rabiot won plenty of major honours during his time at PSG as well, with the decorated midfielder also playing a key role in France's run to the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.

Former Juventus striker and fellow Frenchman David Trezeguet, commenting on Rabiot's ability, has branded the 28-year-old "world-class".

WHAT HAPPENED?
It had been reported earlier this week that Chelsea had taken an interest in Dewsbury-Hall following a failed move by Brighton. The Athletic has now reported that Chelsea have made their preliminary bid for the midfielder as the Blues prepare for life under former Foxes boss Enzo Maresca.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
As per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ready to send two players to the King Power Stadium in a potential swap deal. The two players mentioned in the report are Datro Fofana and Cesare Casadei, who are way out of the fringes of Chelsea's squad and likely seen as surplus by the Blues brass.
DID YOU KNOW?
Dewsbury-Hall had a phenomenal season under Maresca at Leicester last season as the Foxes claimed the Championship title to confirm their promotion to the Premier League. The 25-year-old made 49 appearances under Maresca at Leicester as he scored 12 goals and assisted 15 more in the successful season.

WHAT NEXT FOR THE MOVE?
As per Romano, Dewsbury-Hall has given Chelsea the green light to negotiate with Leicester for his sale this summer as they look to prepare for the pre-season.
Leeds United are currently on course to secure automatic promotion straight back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, having been relegated from the top-flight at the end of last season.
The Whites brought in German head coach Daniel Farke last summer in an attempt to lead them to glory and they are second in the table with 13 games left to play.
They are above Ipswich Town on goal difference and two points ahead of Southampton, with all three sides on the same number of matches played, whilst Leicester City are nine points clear at the top.
Farke won the Championship title with Norwich City on two occasions and is now looking for a third promotion to the Premier League, with the help of the exciting squad he has available to him.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke.
One player who has been particularly important to the club's success on the pitch this season has been terrific forward Crysencio Summerville.
The Dutch wizard has been a constant threat on the left wing and one of the top performers in his position in the division this term, alongside former Leeds starlet Jack Clarke.
When Leeds sold Jack Clarke
In the summer of 2019, then-sporting director Victor Orta decided to cash in on the talented young forward as Tottenham Hotspur swooped in to secure his services.
The Premier League side reportedly splashed out an initial fee of £8.5m to sign the teenage winger and sent him back on loan at Elland Road for the 2019/20 campaign.
Clarke had broken through into the first-team under Marcelo Bielsa during the previous season and made 24 appearances in the Championship, including the play-offs, before Spurs decided to move for him.
Jack Clarke
He produced two goals and two assists from the left flank in those 24 outings, although only four of those matches were as a starter, but his return on loan did not go as well.
The young gem made one Championship appearance for Leeds before Tottenham opted to send him out on loan to Queens Park Rangers for the second half of the campaign, in which time he played six times for the London-based side in the second tier.
Clarke failed to make the grade in the Premier League with Spurs during his time there and was eventually sold to Sunderland, after a six-month loan spell, in the summer of 2022.
Over the last two seasons, the 23-year-old wizard has been a constant threat to opposition defences in the Championship and has been an outstanding performer, which suggests that Orta fumbled Leeds' own homegrown version of Summerville back in 2019.
Crysencio Summerville's season in numbers
The former Feyenoord youngster, who arrived at Elland Road in the summer of 2021, has emerged as the star of Farke's team in the second tier this season for Leeds.
He has been in phenomenal form as both a scorer and a creator of goals as a right-footed winger who predominantly plays on the left side of the attack.
Summerville has racked up 15 goals in 30 appearances in the division – four more than any of his teammates have managed – and only missed nine 'big chances', with an xG of 11.62.
This shows that the 22-year-old whiz has been ruthless in front of goal as he has rarely passed up a good opportunity to find the back of the net for the Whites.
The electric gem has also provided his fellow attackers with eight assists in those 30 Championship games, and only Georginio Rutter (11) has produced more assists within the Leeds squad.
Leeds duo Daniel Farke and Crysencio Summerville.
Summerville may, however, argue that he should have more assists to his name. The exceptional dynamo has an xA of 9.33 and has created 16 'big chances', yet has only been rewarded with eight assists for his efforts.
Along with his quality as a scorer and a creator, the Dutch gem also has the ability in possession to get supporters off their seats with his dribbling, as he has completed 2.3 dribbles per game. He can get Elland Road rocking by committing defenders and driving the ball past players to push his team up the pitch.
Clarke is a player who offers similar qualities as another right-footed winger who plays on the left flank in the Championship, which is backed up by his impressive statistics for Sunderland this season.
Jack Clarke's season in numbers
The 23-year-old has been in exceptional form for the Black Cats throughout the 2023/24 campaign, despite their turbulence in the dugout so far.
They are on their third manager of the season in Mike Dodds, who is in interim charge for the second time after Michael Beale – who replaced Tony Mowbray – was sacked earlier this week.
Despite the seemingly constant change in the coaching staff, Clarke, who was once hailed as "unplayable" by journalist Josh Bunting, has fired in an outstanding 15 goals in 33 Championship matches for Sunderland.
He has only missed four 'big chances' and plundered those 15 goals from 10.25 xG, which suggests that the talented whiz has been more clinical than Summerville as they have the same number of goals but the Black Cats gem has managed it with fewer big chances missed and less xG.

As you can see in the table above, they have both been superb options for their respective sides as scorers and creators on a regular basis from the left wing.
Like the Leeds star, Clarke has been let down by his teammates in the final third as they have only rewarded him with four assists from an xA of 7.93, with 11 'big chances' created in total. This shows that they have not made the most of his creative quality this season.
However, the former Whites academy graduate did register 11 assists from seven 'big chances' created during the 2022/23 campaign, which could even it out somewhat.
What is clear, though, is that Summerville and Clarke are both mercurial stars who have taken the EFL by storm on the left wing with their immense attacking quality.
That is why Leeds, and Orta in particular, may look back on the decision to cash in on him when they did as a mistake as they could have developed their own homegrown version of the current first-team star by working with the former England U21 international to fulfill his potential in Yorkshire.

Maharashtra batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad extended his rich run of form – he fell 16 short of his third successive hundred – before rain forced the abandonment of the fourth one-dayer between India A and Sri Lanka A in Hubli.Rain had delayed the start of play and later returned to end proceedings when Sri Lanka A were 10 for 1 in pursuit of a revised target of 209 in 24 overs. Sent in to bat, India A had piled up 208 for 4 in 22 overs on the back of eighties from Gaikwad and No. 3 Anmolpreet Singh. After left-arm wristspinner Lakshan Sandakan bowled Shubman Gill for 19, Gaikwad and Anmolpreet put on 125 for the second wicket in 76 balls to set the base for a tall total. Gaikwad hit three fours and four sixes while Anmolpreet struck ten fours and two sixes. The partnership ended at the start of the 21st over when Lahiru Kumara had Gaikwad caught by Sandakan for 84 off 59 balls. Ishan Kishan was bowled in the same over for a duck and Deepak Hooda fell in the next – the last of India’s innings – and Anmolpreet remained unbeaten on 85 off 46 balls.Sri Lanka lost Niroshan Dickwella to offspin-bowling allrounder Washington Sundar in the first over of the chase before rain forced an end. The (no) result means India A now have an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The final one-dayer will be played at the same venue on Saturday.

Germany impose strict rules on beer consumptionCannot take the pints to the seatsHowever, no alcohol ban at Euro 2024WHAT HAPPENED?
One of the primary changes is that supporters can only purchase two beers at a time at stadium bars. These drinks must be consumed before taking their seats to watch the game. This measure aims to curb excessive drinking and ensure a safer environment within the stadium.
Chief Police Director Peter Both clarified that while no outright alcohol bans have been implemented at Euro 2024 venues, fans will not be allowed to take alcoholic beverages purchased within the stadium into the seating areas. This is a significant departure from the norm in Germany, where it is typically permissible to carry beers to one's seat.
AdvertisementGetty ImagesWHAT HAS BEEN SAID
“In contrast to the league match, we have agreed that alcoholic drinks purchased in the stadium may not be taken into the stadium,” Both stated in an interview with The Sun.
“This means that they cannot, as is usually the case, buy two carriers of beer and then take them to their seats. They are only allowed to consume alcoholic drinks at the stands.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
These restrictions will be particularly stringent in Gelsenkirchen, where England will commence their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia. There are heightened concerns about potential clashes with pro-Vladimir Putin “ultras,” prompting authorities to enforce strict controls around sensitive sites in the city centre. As part of these measures, there will be restrictions on the sale of alcohol in glasses and bottles on match days to prevent any potential security threats.

DID YOU KNOW?
The move to impose stricter alcohol regulations at Euro 2024 follows a similar trend seen during major tournaments. For instance, during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, authorities made a last-minute decision to halt beer sales within stadiums, causing significant uproar among fans. Although the current measures in Germany are not as extreme, they reflect a growing trend towards tighter alcohol control at large sporting events to enhance safety and security. However, they have to shell out approximately £4 per pint at the Euros, a steep decline from the £7 a pint at certain spots in England.

O título que traremos, em nome de Jesus, vai dar mais visibilidade e vai fazer com que as atletas tenham vontade de retornar ao Brasil.
Tainara
The festive period was not a very joyful one for Arsenal this season, as the Gunners followed up their draw away at Anfield with three losses on the bounce to leave themselves down in fourth in the Premier League and out of the FA Cup.
At present, the Gunners look miles from their best, but with the January transfer window comes the opportunity for Edu and Co to improve the squad, and the latest player touted for a move to N5 would do precisely that, Everton's Amadou Onana.

The Belgian would improve Arsenal's already impressive midfield and could become the perfect partner for Declan Rice.
Arsenal transfer news – Amadou Onana
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are looking for a new midfielder this winter and are currently 'exploring' a marquee deal for Everton star Onana.
The Toffees are understandably reluctant to sell one of their best players amid a relegation-threatened season, but according to the report, offers of around £60m – almost twice the £33m they paid for him in 2022 – could be enough to tempt them into selling.
Other reports on Monday have stated that talks are ongoing between the two parties over a respective move this winter.
Amadou Onana's season in numbers
The former LOSC Lille man has played 16 league games for the Toffees this season, scoring one goal, maintaining a passing accuracy of 84.8%, winning 2.3 aerial duels per game, winning one Man-of-the-Match award and averaging a match rating of 6.82, per WhoScored.
While the fee is certainly high, the prospect of seeing a player that talent scout Jacek Kulig described as a "one-man army in midfield" alongside Rice should be all the convincing Arsenal need to get it done.
That said, if they do need more convincing, they need not look further than the highlights of their game at Goodison Park last season.
Why Onana is a perfect partner for Declan Rice
If Arteta were to pick his strongest XI, you can be pretty sure that Rice and Martin Odegaard would be in the midfield three, which means that the only spot up for grabs is the role alongside the former West Ham captain, be that as a left eight or number six.
Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny have proven themselves useful as temporary solutions in that role. Still, their age means that they cannot be the long-term solution, and while Partey isn't necessarily too old yet, his injury record has become a genuine concern.
Finally, while Kai Havertz has looked better in recent weeks – scoring four goals in the run up to Christmas – he has yet to convince many that he should be a starter in this team.
Therefore, there is a spot for Onana to come in and make his own, but how do his underlying numbers stack up alongside Partey, given that the Ghanaian would probably lose out with his arrival?
Well, when comparing their numbers from last season – when Partey was fit – it's the Toffees ace that comes out ahead in most essential metrics.

In fact, the only area in which the 30-year-old comes out on top is his passing accuracy. In all areas relevant to an all-action defensive midfielder, such as tackles won, interceptions, and aerial duels won, the Belgian comes out on top, very much living up to the "complete package" label that Jacek Kulig gave him in December.
Ultimately, playing Onana in the six role could allow Rice to move into the left-eight position permanently, which in turn could lead to Arsenal's midfield becoming one of the most formidable units to break down in European football.
The £105m summer signing has been exquisite playing further back but his explosive ball-carrying abilities mean he could well be suited to playing further forward.
Agreeing a move for another holding midfielder, be it Onana or someone else, could well allow this to happen. Therefore, the club should be pushing to get this deal over the line in the coming weeks.
