Wolves contact Pedrinho over move

Wolves have made contact with Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Pedrinho regarding a potential summer move, according to a fresh transfer rumour.

The Lowdown: Pedrinho impressing for Shakhtar

The 23-year-old is enjoying a good season for the Ukrainian side, scoring three times in eight Ukrainian Premier League starts, not to mention appearing four times in the Champions League.

Pedrinho has enjoyed an 89.5% pass completion rate in the latter, highlighting his ball retention ability at the highest level, despite playing in an attack-minded midfield role where he is tasked with trying dangerous passes.

It could be that the £15.3million-rated Brazilian looks for a fresh start soon though, with FIFA now allowing foreign players in Russia and Ukraine to suspend their contracts with their current clubs (Marca).

The Latest: Wolves keen on move

According to Goal [via Sport Witness], Wanderers have got in touch with Pedrinho’s representatives over a move, with Bruno Lage the man who brought him to Europe to sign for Benfica.

It is claimed that the Wolves manager has personally ‘approved’ him as a target – the young playmaker has won 14 caps for Brazil’s Under-23s, so certainly has potential.

The Verdict: Shrewd signing

Pedrinho looks an exciting prospect to bring in to Molineux, possessing the Brazilian flair that is likely to bring joy to Wolves supporters.

There is substance to his game, however – he averages 1.5 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per match in the league this season – and he could prove to be a good foil for the more deep-lying Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho, leading the defensive structure from the front when out of possession.

The fact that Lage has worked with Pedrinho before can only be a good thing, too, taking away the risk element of bringing in a player who is unknown to a manager.

Lorgat confident of ICC's case against suspended trio

Haroon Lorgat has said the organisation has put together a case against the three Pakistan players accused of spot-fixing that will “stand the test of scrutiny”

ESPNcricinfo staff04-Dec-2010Haroon Lorgat, the ICC’s chief executive, has said he is confident the organisation has put together a solid case against the three Pakistan players accused of spot-fixing that will “stand the test of scrutiny”. The players, former Pakistan Test captain Salman Butt and new-ball bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, will face an independant tribunal that will decide their fate from January 6 to January 11 next year”We’ve worked hard at collecting all the evidence that we would require to make the charges stand,” Lorgat told the .Michael Beloff QC, who chairs the ICC’s code of conduct commission, will head the tribunal that will hear the case, along with fellow code of conduct commissioners Justice Albie Sachs of South Africa and Kenya’s Sharad Rao. If the players are found guilty, Lorgat said they will be dealt with firmly. “We would want to be proportional but at the same time we do not want to show any leniency. These are severe issues and integrity of the game is absolutely fundamental and we would not want to tolerate any of that in the sport.”The players, however, will be free to challenge the ruling in the Court for Arbitration for Sport. “My understanding is that any matter that we decide on in a disciplinary process is always open to contest in the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” Lorgat said. The , the tabloid that broke the spot-fixing story in August, is also set to be part of the tribunal hearings. The story first appeared in the publication on the third evening of the fourth Test at Lord’s between Pakistan and England.NOTW alleged that the three players were involved in bowling deliberate, planned no-balls in England’s first innings. Much of the published story centred around a video sting operation in which Mazhar Majeed, an agent to the players, was filmed talking about the no-balls and allegedly taking payment for them from undercover reporters posing as a betting syndicate. The evidence gathered by the publication was passed on to Scotland Yard and the ICC’s anti-corruption unit (ACSU), who subsequently launched their own investigations and gathered more evidence. The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service is currently considering whether the evidence passed on to them by police is enough to warrant criminal prosecution against the players. The ICC’s response was swifter. They provisionally suspended the three, soon after the story emerged, based on the ACSU’s investigations. Since then, Butt and Amir have had their appeals against suspensions dismissed by Beloff in a hearing in Dubai. Asif chose not to appeal.

Argentina star eyes Man City move

Italian sources have now shared interesting Man City transfer news involving Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez amid some exciting Erling Haaland rumours.

The Lowdown: Haaland edging closer?

The Norway sensation is now thought to be edging ever closer to an Etihad Stadium move as a plethora of reliable reports back that City are the overwhelming favourites.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/man-city-newest-updates/” title=”Man City newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Haaland, as per journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, has given the green-light to join Pep Guardiola’s title-chasers after agreeing personal terms.

Meanwhile, Mike Keegan of The Daily Mail claims City’s pursuit of the prolific striker has taken a ‘significant step forward’, with the move likely to go through in the ‘next week’.

The Latest: Martinez wants Man City move…

As these major reports emerge, however, TUTTOmercatoWEB claim that Inter forward Martinez is still eyeing a move to the Sky Blues.

The Italian news source state the Argentine ‘wants a big’ move, preferably to a club with many titles and real winning pedigree, with Man City named as a preferred destination.

It is also claimed the Nerazzurri will let him go for around €80 million (£67m).

The Verdict: One to consider in future?

The 24-year-old has bagged 19 goals and three assists in all competitions this season under Simone Inzaghi and City supporters will be no stranger to the player.

Links can be traced all the way back to 2020 with more recent reports suggesting that Guardiola is personally a ‘great admirer’ of the forward who’s drawn comparisons to club legend Sergio Aguero.

However, with Haaland looking all but set to join City according to reliable sources, coupled with the imminent arrival of promising young attacker Julian Alvarez, we believe Martinez may well be one to consider in future at best – even despite Romelu Lukaku branding the player a ‘beast’.

High stakes in battle of IPL heavyweights

Defeats for Guyana and Mumbai tomorrow will knock them out, making the Bangalore-Lions game a sudden death. The opposite result, however, will, theoretically, keep all four teams in contention

The clash between these two IPL heavyweights is the biggest draw in Group A and the stakes have increased with South Australia Redbacks sealing their place in the semis after three straight wins. Mumbai Indians face a must-win clash while Royal Challengers Bangalore have a bit more breathing space, given they’ll be facing the Lions in their final league game after the results of Sunday’s fixtures will have either intensified or narrowed down the race for the final four. Defeats for Guyana and Mumbai tomorrow will knock them out, making the Bangalore-Lions game a sudden death. The opposite results, however, will theoretically keep all four teams in contention.Mumbai and Bangalore brushed aside Guyana and their defeats to South Australia were also similar. Both fielded terribly and were beaten by South Australia’s century-opening stands but the difference lay in the batting. While Mumbai’s innings was laced with several important contributions, a feat repeated against Guyana, Bangalore had just three batsmen reach double-figures en route to 154, which included 13 extras. Each of the front line Indian batsmen fell cheaply and though Bangalore were rescued by the counterattack led by Ross Taylor and Dillon du Preez, it’s a failure they can ill-afford to repeat against an equally power-packed Mumbai batting line-up. The loss of Jacques Kallis due to a sore back had its impact at the top of the order and with the ball. A return could prove a timely boost to a side slightly behind on momentum.Team newsBangalore may have a few tough calls to make in the event of Kallis’ return. du Preez was his replacement against South Australia and he smashed a 25-ball 46. Bangalore could be made to choose between him and Cameron White. They tried out Vinay Kumar in place of B Akhil but without much success; Abhimanyu Mithun remains an extra pace option.Royal Challengers Bangalore (possible): 1 Jacques Kallis/Manish Pandey, 2 Rahul Dravid, 3 Robin Uthappa, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Virat Kohli, 6 Dillon du Preez/Cameron White, 7 Praveen Kumar, 8 Abhimanyu Mithun/Vinay Kumar, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Anil Kumble, 11 Nayan Doshi.Mumbai got most things right against Guyana, and could go in with the same team. Abhishek Nayar, who came in as a replacement for Dhawal Kulkarni in the squad has himself been replaced due to a flu and respiratory infection. Assam seamer Abu Nechim takes his place.Mumbai Indians (possible): 1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Kieron Pollard, 4 Saurabh Tiwary, 5 Ambati Rayudu, 6 JP Duminy, 7 Dwayne Bravo, 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Ali Murtaza.Watch out for …Rahul Dravid was far from comfortable against South Australia, scoring 4 off 11 and, not for the first time, got out trying to overcome his frustration by attempting the paddle. He took his time while chasing a paltry target against Guyana in Bangalore’s first game. Under pressure, however, his position in the batting order could be reconsidered given the presence of several explosive batsmen in the line-up.In each of this three appearances this tournament, Kieron Pollard has reaffirmed the reputation that won him a bumper bid at the IPL auction. He’s struck 14 sixes, entertained the crowd with his brute power and raised the price-bar for the next auction. And he’s enjoying it, jiving to the music on the pitch with Dwayne Bravo after he sent Shaun Tait over cow corner. In a do-or-die encounter, Mumbai have the game-changer they need to stay alive.Key contestsOpening stands: Both teams possess plenty of ammunition in the middle order and solid batsmen making up the opening partnerships. Shikhar Dhawan and Sachin Tendulkar have been productive at the top while Bangalore’s results have been mixed thus far. In the battle of the bats, against pace bowlers who’re adept with their skills and variations, the start to each innings involves a keen contest.Stats and trivia Dwayne Bravo is one of seven bowlers to have grabbed a four-wicket haul in the Champions League Twenty20, but for Trinidad and Tobago against Somerset in 2009.Kallis, with an average of 8.66 for his six wickets, has the best average for anyone who has bowled three overs or more in the competition.

Dhoni confident of batting revival

Despite two flop shows in the tournament, the Indian team’s morale ahead of the crunch match against New Zealand seems to be pretty high

Siddarth Ravindran in Dambulla24-Aug-2010Despite two flop shows in the tournament, the Indian team’s morale ahead of the crunch match against New Zealand seems to be pretty high. MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina were involved in a brief, fun game of tennis-ball cricket with some of the local net bowlers ahead of practice. There was plenty of banter between the Indian batsmen and the bowlers during the nets, mostly debating whether a particular shot would have cleared an imaginary fielder or not. There was serious training as well. Gary Kirsten had one-on-one chats with several of the young batsmen after giving them throw-downs in the nets, pointing out chinks in technique. For Monday’s optional session, 12 members of the side turned up, instead of the usual half a dozen or so.”I think the preparation has been very good,” Dhoni, the India captain, said. “Hopefully execution will also be good tomorrow.”With Dambulla’s pitches different in character to the usual subcontinental tracks, Dhoni stressed the need to be watchful at the start of the innings. “It’s more about the mindset because in one-day cricket you’re so used to going after and hitting the bowlers right from the first delivery,” he said. “[Usually if you] give respect to the bowlers for the first 10 overs, the next 40 overs are yours. This is one of those venues where you have to prolong the respect for bowlers by another 10 overs.”India folded for 88 and 103 in two matches, sandwiching a victory crafted by a Virender Sehwag special, but Dhoni wasn’t overly worried about the batting. “I won’t be bothered too much,” he said. “But if it’s said that this is the batting strength of our side, I won’t agree with that. One thing we can’t deny is that we have had two batting failures and we have to rectify the problem, get on the wicket and try to score some runs.”In both defeats, the loss of wickets led to a near halt in the scoring: after losing the third wicket against Sri Lanka, India made 13 runs in seven overs, while the corresponding number in the opening game against New Zealand was six runs in five overs. Dhoni called for a more enterprising approach. “Most of the batsmen are trying to battle through and there are times when you can’t do that. If you get eight or 10 runs off five overs, it doesn’t really help you. You have to be brave enough to play your big shots or challenge the bowler. You have to keep speculating and you have to try and make a way through the opposition.”Rohit Sharma is one batsmen having a horrid time, rarely looking comfortable at the crease all tournament, but he got a vote of confidence from his captain. “It’s a tricky situation for him,” Dhoni said. “There’s pressure when you are always in and out of the side. Especially on these wickets. Unfortunate to get out once when he didn’t get the umpire’s decision in his favour. He is working hard and his fitness has improved a lot.”Wasim Akram reportedly called some of the Indian youngsters ‘softies’, a charge Dhoni denied. “They have done really well in adverse and difficult conditions. Whether it’s in Australia or the T20 World Cup or some of the other tournaments where we were not at our best,” Dhoni said. “I think the guys are courageous enough to go through any conditions or situations thrown at them. We are just on the back foot right now, with the conditions maybe. But these are the boys who will ultimately be part of the Indian cricket team now or sometime later.”

A diferença no placar e a atuação apática do time irritou o técnico Dyego Coelho.

Celtic: Joseph drops deadline day update

Anthony Joseph has dropped a teasing update regarding Celtic’s business on transfer deadline day.

What’s the talk?

In a recent post on Twitter, the Sky Sports journalist revealed that, while a host of incoming signings aren’t expected on the final day of the January transfer window, Ange Postecoglou will be keeping a very close eye on the market in case a player becomes available who is too good for the Bhoys to pass up.

In his tweet, Joseph said: “In terms of Celtic, I’ve been told not to expect incomings, unless someone becomes available who’s too good to miss out on. Could see some fringe/younger players heading out – more likely on loan.”

Fans will be excited

While Celtic have already been one of the busier clubs in the January window, having already sealed the arrivals of Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi, Daizen Maeda and Johnny Kenny, the news that the Hoops could still be active on deadline day is sure to have left the Parkhead faithful excited.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/check-out-the-latest-celtic-news-2″ title=”Check out the latest Celtic news”]

Indeed, there are a number of areas within Postecoglou’s first-team squad which could still do with greater strength in depth, particularly at left-back, attacking midfield and on the wings.

The Bhoys have been linked with the likes of Lee Buchanan, Callum Styles, Danny Mandriou and Albert Gudmundsson this month. Should any of those become available during the closing stages of the January market, it would indeed seem advisable for the Celtic manager to sanction a late swoop in the window, as each player would very much appear to improve the club’s chances of reclaiming their Premiership crown this season.

West Ham: Thomas drops Zapata update

Roshane Thomas has dropped an update on West Ham United’s failed move for Duvan Zapata on transfer deadline day.

What’s the talk?

In a recent article for The Athletic, the West Ham correspondent shed further light on the Hammers’ late move for the Atalanta centre-forward, with it being said that David Moyes’ side had agreed to initially take the 30-year-old on loan – paying a £4m fee to do so – with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

However, Thomas went on to state that, despite the Serie A side agreeing to these demands and the Irons submitting a deal sheet to the Premier League, the move ultimately proved to be too late in the day to get the transfer over the line prior to Monday evening’s deadline.

West Ham must act this summer

With no new centre-forward arriving at the London Stadium in the January transfer window – despite a £58m bid for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez – West Ham are still desperately lacking any real strength in depth up top – with Michail Antonio currently being the East London side’s only recognised striker.

And, while this will undoubtedly come as a huge blow to the Hammers’ chances of securing a top-four finish in the league this season, should Zapata once again be available next summer, it would very much appear as if Moyes must do all he can to get a deal over the line for the Colombia international – as the 30-year-old looks to be the perfect match for Antonio.

Indeed, the £29.7m-rated forward has been a revelation for Atalanta since joining the club from SSC Napoli back in 2018, scoring 78 goals and registering 38 assists over his 152 appearances for the Bergamo club.

This season, the £57k-per-week striker has once again been in breathtaking form for Gian Piero Gasperini’s outfit, having already bagged nine goals, registered four assists and created three big chances over his 16 Serie A appearances – returns which have seen him average a highly impressive SofaScore match rating of 6.98.

And, with finding the back of the net clearly not being an issue, the 6 foot 2 Colombian’s physical stature is also similar to that of West Ham’s main man in attack, with Papu Gomez previously stating of the centre-forward: “Zapata’s shorts look like underwear, he is so big.

“Sometimes I don’t even want to get close to him in a match because he’s a beast and it hurts. When he is feeling good he’s like a train – you throw the ball forward and ‘ciao!'”

As such, while it was certainly a huge blow to not land the 30-year-old this winter, should a move still be on the table come the end of the season, Moyes could finally find the answer to his centre-forward woes in a move for the Atalanta hitman.

Dominant Mithali Raj gives India series

Mithali Raj’s third consecutive half-century gave India an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series against England in Visakhapatnam. She scored 84 in an attractive stroke-filled innings to give India a convincing five-wicket win.For a second game in a row, India had to chase a below-par total. Raj came to the crease in the fifth over after Katherine Brunt trapped Anjum Chopra leg before for 2. Brunt bowled full and straight and got the ball to move away from the right-hander and beat Raj twice in the over. But in her next over, Raj waited for her to stray wide and drove her for fours to cover and point.India ticked along slowly but lost two wickets and after the 23 overs they were 59 for 3 where England, at the same point of their innings, had been 56 for 2. Wicketkeeper Sulakshana Naik, who replaced Anagha Deshpande for the game, had joined Raj at the fall of the third wicket, of Priyanka Roy. Jenny Gunn came on to bowl the 24th over and was first flicked by Raj to fine leg for four and then guided her to third-man boundary by Naik. The over cost England nine runs. Raj reached her half-century (off 77 balls) in her next over to keep India on course for a series win.The two batsmen tried to up the scoring rate and played some loose shots in the process but luck was on their side. Naik hit a four to third man by playing late to offspinner Laura Marsh while Raj got a boundary behind the wicket after she edged one off Gunn while attempting to drive. Naik fell in the 29th when trying to clear midwicket, caught by a diving Brunt on her fourth attempt.India reached the 100-run mark in the 34th over. It had taken England seven more overs to get to the milestone and it was the middle overs that were the difference between the two innings. While Raj, along with Naik and then Rumeli Dhar, picked up singles and fours with ease, England’s half-centurion Charlotte Edwards, and the middle order, were strangled by the accurate Indian spinners. England’s lack of quality spin options hurt them in the series. But today even their fast bowlers struggled to keep it tight during Raj’s innings. Brunt bowled three wides in the 36th over and five in all.Right through the series, India’s fast bowlers, especially their opening pair of Jhulan Goswami and Dhar, have been more disciplined and economical than their England counterparts. Today, Goswami gave India the first wicket, trapping Ebony Rainford-Brent for 12 in the seventh over. The task of rebuilding fell on Edwards once Jenny Gunn was run out with 26 on the board. Edwards and Atkins then added 39 at over three an over before Caroline Atkins fell in the 28th over trying to slog left-arm spinner Preeti Dimri. The two left-arm spinners, Dimri and Gouher Sultana, tied England down and it was only after Danielle Hazell came to the crease in the 44th over and started throwing her bat at everything that England’s scoring rate increased a touch. However it was too late to make a substantial difference by then, and Edwards’ dream of a first series win in India has been put on hold.

Traore would complete lethal Spurs attack

Tottenham Hotspur could form a frightening frontline amid interest in Adama Traore this January…

What’s the word?

The north London outfit have once again been linked with a move for the powerful Wolverhampton Wanderers winger ahead of next month’s transfer window.

According to the Telegraph’s Matt Law, Spurs boss Antonio Conte is a huge fan of the Spain international and the club could be set to revisit their interest in signing him.

‘The speed-king was identified as a target while Nuno [Santo] was in charge during the summer, but Spurs only made an offer to take him on loan. Conte is also a fan of the player and would no doubt see a similar bid as a waste of time. He will want Levy to commit to the kind of offer that might make Wolves think,’ he wrote.

Earlier this month, it was suggested that Wolves would accept a bid as low as £18m for the 25-year-old, as per ESPN.

Imagine him and Son

Not only would Traore be a perfect fit for Conte’s wing-back system in N17 but he could give Spurs another standout option in the final third, one that would send fear into many a Premier League defence.

He’s capable of playing as a winger, more centrally as an inside-forward and at wing-back, so there is plenty of room for the Italian to fit him into the team.

Traore has long been a nuisance in the top-flight and alongside a player like Heung-min Son, Conte could have a frightening duo to play in behind Harry Kane.

As he did last season, the Wolves star leads the division for dribbles per game (4.7). Of course, his end product has always been brought into question but Kane and Son are there to take up the brunt of the goalscoring duties.

He’s still averaging 1.1 key passes per game, proving to be quite the creative option, too.

Aside from his ball-carrying ability, Traore is also built like a brick wall and his physicality is another reason why so many full-backs struggle to combat him.

Southampton forward Che Adams dubbed him a “monster” to the Premier League’s official YouTube channel, whilst Jurgen Klopp has often deemed him to be “unplayable.”

On the above evidence, sporting director Fabio Paratici must look to seal a move for Traore, especially for as little as £18m, in January.

AND in other news, Spurs can sign their next Mousa Dembele in “devastating” £26m-rated machine who won’t cost a penny…
