Harvey Elliott has a bright future ahead of him but he already possesses certain attributes that suggest Jurgen Klopp should consider giving him more regular opportunities to impress.

On the chalkboard

The 16-year-old has already broken the record for the youngest ever player to appear in the Premier League and given how he has already impressed the fans and coaching staff at Anfield – with Pep Lijnders describing him as a “super player” – he looks destined to become an accomplished footballer.

He showed in his only senior game for the club so far, against MK Dons, that he has the confidence to match his talent, achieving a 9/10 rating from the Liverpool Echo for his performance.

The former Fulham man was adept with both feet and created chances with three key passes.

But what was most telling was his ability on the ball and the ease with which he took on opposition defenders.

He achieved four successful dribbles, double than that of Liverpool’s next best player, and in fact it is an aspect of the team that is lacking – with only five players achieving an average of one successful dribble or more per league game.

Elliott, therefore, would provide something different and could be a valuable asset for Klopp, particularly off the bench.

Attacking alternative

Liverpool have shown championship winning form so far this season but in recent league matches they have been less free-scoring, and instead have ground out narrow wins against the likes of Sheffield United and Leicester.

One problem they have faced this campaign is the defensive nature of the opposition, particularly visitors to Anfield, some of whom have had a preference to drop deep and contain the Reds’ attack, as their share of possession against Spurs and Newcastle shows.

It was a method which worked well for Manchester United for 85 minutes, and it means that Jurgen Klopp needs to find a Plan B for his side, to allow his side to cut through the opposition in a different way.

Elliott could offer that, and though it may be too early to start him in games, he has proved he has both the temperament and skillset to make a difference from the bench.

His ability to take the ball past a player and find a teammate could be vital to unlocking defensive sides, and the sooner he is given the chance to play the sooner Klopp could mould another weapon in his armoury.

The upcoming clash against Arsenal will likely allow the winger to showcase his ability, and if he performs well against a respected left-back in Sead Kolasinac or Kieran Tierney, then his opportunities could become more regular.

وقال محمد طلعت خلال مداخلة هاتفية عبر برنامج “ملعب أون تايم” المُذاع عبر قناة “أون تايم سبورتس”: “هناك لبس وسوء تفاهم، أنا لم أتشاجر مع لاعبي الزمالك، الكرة خرجت من الملعب، وبن شرقي كان يسخر مني، فقلت له (لماذا؟ أنت تلعب في نادٍ كبير)”.

تابع: “اعتذرت لـ أسامة نبيه، ولم أبصق عليه ولا على أي شخص في جهازالزمالك، بصقت على الأرض فقط، وأعتذر عن سلوكي”.

وواصل: “قلت لـ بن شرقي عيب، وأشرت له إنه (صغير أوي)، ولم أقصد الزمالك بتلك الإشارة، كل الاحترام والتقدير للقلعة البيضاء، لكن كلامي وإشارتي كانت موجهة لـ بن شرقي فقط”.

اختتم: “لم أقصد البصق عليهم وأخلاقي لا تسمح لي بذلك، أنا أقف لـ أسامه نبيه احترامًا”.

In an interview with The Times, Andrea Radrizzani has delivered a potentially worrying statement about the club’s finances, claiming it’s not sustainable to maintain their salary at the level it’s at.

What’s he said?

Angus Kinnear has spoken in the past about the massive rise in the wage budget since Radrizzani walked through the door at Elland Road and in recent times that looks as though it’s caught up with them.

Profit and sustainability was a running theme throughout Leeds’ summer as the club had to balance the books.

It was a matter that played some part in Pontus Jansson leaving this summer.

Yet, despite claiming £10m for Jack Clarke and receiving fees for both Jansson and Kemar Roofe, things still don’t look overly positive.

Radrizzani told The Times:

“It’s financially not sustainable to keep this level of salary which is now over £30m, probably £33m with Marcelo and closer to £40m with the coaches.”

Worrying signs

Leeds struggled to bring players through the door on a permanent basis in the summer and instead opted for a policy that saw six players arrive on loan.

Illan Meslier, Helder Costa and Jack Harrison can all become permanent additions in the future, something that would obviously be helped by returning to the Premier League.

The potential investment of QSI would also go a colossal way to ironing things out and making their level of salary sustainable.

However, that wouldn’t be particularly feasible until next season.

That means, judging by Radrizzani’s comments, that Leeds are under huge pressure to achieve promotion this season. It also suggests any permanent signings in January will likely have to be forgotten about.

That’s unless more players leave, which given their squad depth isn’t a realistic aim. They’ve used 19 players in the Championship this term, the fewest of anyone in the division while they’re also struggling in front of goal.

From the highest number of shots taken by teams in the second tier, they only sit joint-tenth for goals scored.

Bringing in a goalscorer might well be at the height of their priorities, therefore, but where they can get the finances from to fund that looks to be an issue.

Radrizzani’s comments should certainly come as a concern going into the next window.

In today’s Liverpool roundup, we take a look at what news has been doing the rounds for the Reds. Alisson Becker talks about his recovery from injury, Virgil Van Dijk congratulates Lionel Messi, and former left-back John Arne Riise is baffled by the omission of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson in the FIFA World XI.

Alisson on his road to recovery

Report: Alisson is nearing a return to action for Liverpool after injuring himself on the opening weekend against Norwich City. The goalkeeper told liverpoolfc.com: “I’m on a good way, I think we are nearly there. I can go outside to the pitch to do some goalkeeper work and I feel very well. I feel confident and I think now it’s just about getting all my power, all my confidence to come back and do what I love to do.

“The games, the atmosphere at Anfield, the away games, all games when I watch on the TV, I just think how I want to play, I want to be there, I want to help my teammates. I’m looking forward [to being back], I can’t wait anymore!”

Alisson also spoke on his replacement Adrian, saying: “I think the boys are doing very well, all the team [and] Adrian especially.

“He’s a special guy who came late in the season, he just came and shows everyone his value, not just as a player but as a person and that is the more important thing. He is doing very well on the pitch. I have peace to recover in a proper way so it’s better for everyone.”

Verdict: There can be little debate that Alisson has been missed between the sticks for Liverpool. The Reds have conceded eight goals in the first seven games of the season, as opposed to letting in just four in the first seven last campaign.

Despite these statistics, Adrian has performed relatively well in replace of the Brazilian, making a crucial save against Chelsea at the weekend to keep Liverpool in front, and producing an incredible stop in the game against Napoli.

However, despite Adrian’s heroics, there is no doubt Alisson will be a welcomed addition back to the team after winning the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year and the Men’s Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper trophy thanks to his sublime displays last year as Liverpool conceded just 22 Premier League goals all season.

Van Dijk’s message to Messi

Report: Van Dijk sent a classy message to Lionel Messi, Megan Rapinoe and Alisson after the Dutchman lost out on the Men’s FIFA Best award to the Barcelona man. He said on his Instagram page:

“It’s a great honour to be named in #TheBest XI along with such an incredible group of players. I would like to say a big thank you to all of my teammates at Liverpool, as well as the national team, for all of your continued support. Congratulations too to my #LFC family on their well deserved individual awards! Well done to @alissonbecker on being named the best Goalkeeper in the world and of course to the Boss ? for being Coach of the Year ? Verdict: Van Dijk, after helping Liverpool win the Champions League and finish on a record-breaking 97 points for the club in the Premier League, was perhaps unlucky not to win the award. However, Messi did score 51 goals in 50 games and register 22 assists across the board last season – his best return since being involved in 86 goals in 2014-15.

It, of course, just a matter of opinion. Do you prefer to see a defender concede very few goals? Or are you more in favour of a goalscoring machine? In truth, both of them won major trophies, and each was the best player for their respective club in doing so. Of course, this has brought on some controversy, with pundits such as Paul Merson claiming it is ‘an absolute joke’ to choose Messi over Van Dijk, he told The Debate.

Riise fuming at Robertson & Alexander-Arnold omission

Report: Former Liverpool man Riise has taken to Twitter to express his frustration that fellow left-back Robertson was denied a place in the FIFA World XI. The Norweigan tweeted:  “I’m a massive Messi fan, best player ever!! But If @VirgilvDijk didn’t win it this year, a CB will never win it. And how on earth didn’t @andrewrobertso5 and @trentaa98 get voted best LB and RB?”

Verdict: Indeed it seems that most of the football community is in agreement with Riise, with Dejan Lovren and Steven Gerrard just a few to join in on the controversial news, and when you break it down you will struggle to argue otherwise.

As shown by @FootyAccums, Robertson kept 26 clean sheets, as opposed to Marcelo’s six, whilst the Scotland international provided 13 assists as Marcelo bagged just six.

As for Alexander-Arnold, he provided 15 assists in the year, as opposed to Ramos – who actually played centre-back throughout the year – who provided just one and kept 15 clean sheets, as opposed to Alexander-Arnold’s 22.

Furthermore, Real Madrid crashed out at the Round of 16 stages in the Champions League, as Liverpool won the title. The Reds finished second on 97 points, just as Los Blancos finished third on 68 points, and went through three managers in one season as a result of poor performances.

Adam Forshaw rather mysteriously missed out against Barnsley last weekend but thankfully for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, Leeds still prevailed 2-0.

The midfielder was replaced by Jamie Shackleton in midfield but they will have to make do without the 27-year-old once again this coming weekend.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, the following was noted from Bielsa:

It was a piece of news that seemed to have a host of fans concerned that they’d be without him.

One individual said the lack of control they had without Forshaw last week was worrying while a further supporter said it would be a big miss.

Another fan echoed similar sentiments, suggesting he was an important player in the team.

Forshaw has been a steady figure this term, completing over 90% of his passes but failing to score from an average of two shots per game.

In fact, the midfield man hasn’t scored in the Championship since 2015/16 so he’s been waiting a while for the ball to end up in the back of the net.

Shackleton stepped up confidently in his place last week by completing four tackles and three key passes so he’ll have to at the top of his game once more.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a clutch of players in this transfer window.

Football FanCast sources understand that the club are in talks with Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala over possible moves, but Ryan Sessegnon is the player most needed at the club.

Reports suggest that he is nearing a £20m move to the club in this transfer window.

Indeed, Danny Rose has not travelled with the club on their pre-season tour of Asia and has instead been left in London to seek a transfer.

Ben Davies has not travelled either due to injury and, if Rose departs, they will be left with just the Wales international as their senior left-back.

Jan Vertonghen can play there but he has been so exceptional at centre-back for the club that it would almost feel like a waste.

Bringing in Sessegnon, then, has to be a cornerstone of the club’s summer recruitment.

He is not just a left-back, of course, as he can also play as a left winger, supplementing the threat of Heung-min Son.

The most important part of the signing, though, is ensuring the club have depth at full-back.

Spurs have already sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid but there is a succession plan in place; FFC understands that Juan Foyth could move from centre-back to right-back, while they also have Kyle Walker-Peters and Serge Aurier.

For left-back, though, the bodies aren’t there. Beyond Davies, one has to look to the youth team for the next specialist left-back.

Acquiring Sessegnon’s signature is vital, then, if the club are to continue calling on full-backs or wing-backs, and Spurs are known for utilising width in their play.

In attacking midfield, where both Lo Celso and Dybala play, Spurs already have Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Erik Lamela, with all three holding the ability to feature at No.10.

Bringing in one or both of the Argentines would, of course, be a statement of significant intent.

But you can’t decorate a house without building it first. Having Sessegnon come in is an important part of that building job.

According to Sky Sports, Christian Eriksen is set to remain with Tottenham Hotspur this summer and potentially even sign a new contract with the club.

Eriksen will see his current deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Denmark international continues to be linked with a move away from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

However, according to Sky Sports, Real Madrid are now prioritising a move for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, meaning that Eriksen is likely to remain with Spurs and sign a new deal with the capital outfit.

The former Ajax playmaker was not always at his best last season, but still managed 10 goals and 17 assists in all competitions for Pochettino’s team.
