West Ham given David Moyes contract update

West Ham United have received a major boost, with David Moyes expected to sign a contract extension before the end of the week…

What’s the word?

According to The Telegraph, the Scotsman was on the brink of signing a new three-year extension at the London Stadium, which would end any prospects of him returning to former club Everton.

He is likely to put pen to paper on Friday just under three weeks after sealing a place in the Europa League for the Irons with their best top-flight finish since the 1998/99 campaign.

The 58-year-old had been linked with a sensational return to Goodison Park following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid but instead he has agreed to extend his contract, which was due to expire in 12 months’ time.

Huge boost

After those worrying links to his old club emerged during the past week, this fresh development will surely come as exciting news to everyone in east London as the Hammers can now look ahead to what will be a historic season.

Moyes has completely transformed West Ham in his second spell at the club. Last year, he guided them to Premier League safety with just one game to spare and he has now steered them to a top-six finish.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-the-latest-gossip-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and more!”]

His recruitment in the transfer market has arguably been second to none, trusting relatively unknown signings from abroad like Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, who have both become instant favourites, whilst no one could have predicted the form of Jesse Lingard, who ended the season on nine goals and four assists having only joined on loan in January.

In response to the report about Moyes’ future, plenty of the Irons faithful have made their feelings known on social media, with the overriding consensus being sheer elation. – albeit from a small sample size, there won’t be many against this move.

“Great stuff”, claimed one supporter, whilst another previously lauded it as “class news”. A further member of the London Stadium fanbase also described it as a “huge relief to 99% of West Ham fans”.

All that’s left is the official announcement from Rush Green but, until then, it seems that everyone associated with the club can now start to get excited ahead of next season.

AND in other news, Moyes must axe “really special” Pellegrini flop, he’s cost West Ham £3.95m per goal…

Ziaur Rahman exploded against Brothers Union

Ziaur Rahman, the younger brother of Pakistani fast bowler Ataur Rahman, carried out an enthralling fiery century at BNS today while his club Kalabagan club took on Brothers Union in GrameenPhone Premier League and won the match quite effortlessly

Shahryar Khan22-Apr-2002Ziaur Rahman, the younger brother of Pakistani fast bowler Ataur Rahman, carried out an enthralling fiery century at BNS today while his club Kalabagan club took on Brothers Union in GrameenPhone Premier League and won the match quite effortlessly. The stout Pakistani sparked off playing at number four position and took only 97 balls to reach his hundred (104 not out) that was featured by 7 slashing boundaries and 2 sixes. Kalabagan dumped Brothers by a huge margin of 125 runs to secure their full points. It was a wise decision to bat first on the flat track of BNS and the Dhanmondi based club cashed on it quite well. The early dismissal of Rafiqul Islam and Rajin Saleh Alam couldn’t affect the rest of the Kalabagan order as one down Anisur Rahman and his dangerous partner Ziaur ran up 103 runs in the next wicket. Anisur notched up 87, which was well arranged by 7 fours and a solitary six. Ziaur was well assisted by another supportive blitzing cameo knock from Manjarul Islam Rana (32) at the other end. Manjarul, the left-arm spinner, came up with a batsman’s identity in this league and remained not out till the end and together they took Kalabagan to a virtually inaccessible 296 for 5 after the completion of fifty overs.Brothers couldn’t shrug off the initial pressure for two reasons – first Kalabagan set a massive target and secondly they faced an early collapse within 15 overs created by youthful pace bowler Talha Jubair. They lost their fourth wicket in 72 (Among these Talha claimed 3), the valuable one of man-in-form Athar Ali, who managed only 26. As a result, Mostadir Litu and Moin Khan, had to approach the Kalabagan attack (Specially Talha and Mushfiqur) rather cautiously.Moin Khan was dispatched by leggie Mosadddek Hossain when he was looking dangerous. The star wicket keeper plundered 31 runs from 33 balls before giving a simple catch to Lablur Rahman. With his demise Brother’s chance (Even the slightest one) slumped. Manjarul Islam and Imran ran through the tail to mop it up in 42.5 overs. Only Mostadir top scored 33 facing 60 deliveries to show that he has the temperament of a Test batsman. Talha Jubair handled the batsmen roughly taking 3 wickets for 40.

Bull wants Wolves to sign Vitinha permanently - Exclusive

Vitinha starred for Portugal at the U21s European Championships earlier this month and despite limited chances at Wolves last season, former striker Steve Bull would like to see his former club keep the 21-year old.

Wolves brought Vitinha in on loan last summer under the watchful eyes of Jorge Mendes and Nuno Espirito Santo, but despite failing to set the place alight the Midlands club have an option to buy him for just £18 million.

If Nuno was still at Molineux it would likely just be a formality that Vitinha would sign permanently, however, under new boss Bruno Lage it’s unclear what type of players he wants to bring in. Not bringing Vitinha in for just £18 million could be a mistake, though.

Wolves have often operated with both Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in midfield and Bull believes they need a more physical presence in the middle of the pitch, but that does not signal the end for Vitinha at Molineux, as he explained exclusively to Football FanCast:

“We need somebody bigger in the middle of the park with a bit of height who can get the odd goal and I don’t think he could do that for us.

“I would keep him for that amount of money because you’re going to get a lot back when he establishes himself as a top player.”

Vitinha was never given a real chance to impress with his first start in the Premier League not coming until December 29th and then only another four followed for the 21-year old.

It would appear to be a sensible decision to keep Vitinha at the club as Wolves would likely be able to sell him on for a profit in a few years or he could develop into a first-team regular if given more minutes to play alongside the likes of Neves and Moutinho.

Spearman raises tempo to blast Central to unlikely win

For a team to win by scoring 66 more in the fourth innings than the next highest total in the match is a rare event, but that is what Central Districts achieved against Northern Districts at McLean Park, Napier today. They did it with something to spare in the end, winning by six wickets with more than 20 overs to spare thanks to a thrilling and violent innings from their captain, Craig Spearman. The tempo of the match changed from dead slow to lightening quick and back again several times. It was a game that either side could have taken hold of at various stages, but that remained in the balance until Spearman took over. His 90 took 81 balls and included 11 fours and five sixes, the biggest of which sent the ball over the McKenzie Stand and out of the ground, off Yovich. Spearman took on each of the Northern bowlers in turn, with the same degree of contemptuous aggression. Joseph Yovich suffered more than most. The match was won when his recall was greeted with an upward gear change by Spearman. There are few players in New Zealand who can destroy an attack in this manner. Watching Spearman in this mood makes you wonder why he is not an entrenched member of the national squad.Opening batsman David Kelly’s contribution to Central’s win was just as vital. He gave solid foundation to the innings with 71. This was an outstanding effort from a batsman whose form had deserted him before this game.Glen Sulzberger also played a supporting role to perfection. He and Spearman put on 135 in 21.5 overs at a strike rate of 6.18 for the fourth wicket.Northern suffered the important – probably decisive – loss of Simon Doull before play began. He received a knock on the knee during his whirlwind fifty yesterday and could take no part in proceedings. Doull will probably miss Northern’s fixture at Whangarei next week. With Joseph Yovich used only in short spells, possibly an after effect of his marathon stint on the second day, the Northern bowling resources were severely depleted. Both Martin and Bradburn bowled tidily, but there was little help for the spinners in a pitch that seemed to get flatter as the game wore on. Most of the terrors that it appeared to hold on the first two days were in the minds of the batsmen, rather than in evidence on the cut strip. The loss is a blow to Northern’s title aspirations, though how much so depends upon other results. Earlier in the game Central coach Dipak Patel refused to discount his team’s chances in the Shell Trophy. This victory keeps the door open to the possibility of adding to their reputation as the come-back kids, earned after their victory against the odds in the Shell Cup.The reputations of several young cricketers have been enhanced over the past four days. Brent Hefford continued his meteoric rise with seven wickets earned by impressive control and cricketing intelligence.Andrew Schwass showed that he may be an undiscovered gem in first-class cricket, as well as in the one-day game. Joseph Yovich showed that he is a talent with bat and ball, bowling very quickly for a long time. There are some reasons for optimism in an otherwise gloomy week for New Zealand cricket.

Leicester handed Jonny Evans injury blow

Whilst Leicester’s Champions League hopes took a huge blow with their defeat to Newcastle United on Friday night, they were handed another damaging hit with an injury to a key player.

Having originally been in the line-up to face the Magpies at the King Power Stadium, Jonny Evans was withdrawn and was then spotted in the stands with crutches.

Whilst Brendan Rodgers has suggested that his medical staff will have to “see” regarding his availability going forwards, any potential absence would be a huge blow for the Foxes.

Since arriving from West Bromwich Albion three years ago, Evans has become a key figure at the King Power Stadium, and that has certainly been exemplified throughout the 2020/21 campaign.

He has made 28 appearances in the Premier League this term, helping the Foxes to record ten clean sheets as they chase down a position in the top four.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leicester-city-news%2c-transfer-rumours-and-more-abraham-demrial-maddison-rodgers-mckennie” title=”Latest Leicester City news, transfer rumours and more…”]

His underlying statistics are also eye-catching. According to WhoScored, he has contributed 0.9 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 3.3 aerials per match in the Premier League this season. Meanwhile, his 3.5 clearances per game in the league is only bettered by fellow centre-back Wesley Fofana.

Rodgers has always made clear his admiration for his fellow Northern Ireland native, labelling the 33-year-old as “top-class”.

His absence was certainly highlighted in Friday’s defeat to Newcastle. The Foxes produced an absolutely horrendous defensive showing, with a back three of Fofana, Caglar Soyuncu and Timothy Castagne struggling to keep the Magpies quiet.

Indeed, it was the first time that Leicester had conceded four goals in a Premier League game since a defeat to Bournemouth last season.

With Evans having been injured before Friday’s clash, Rodgers will certainly hope his absence is not too long, especially with the Foxes aiming to seal a place in the top four as well as having an FA Cup final on the horizon.

Rodriguez and Coleman ruled out for Everton

Carlo Ancelotti has dropped news of a double injury blow for Everton as they prepare to play Manchester City in the Premier League this afternoon.

The Lowdown: Everton chasing European qualification

The Goodison Park side go into the final day knowing that they can still qualify for European competition.

They are currently three points behind sixth-placed West Ham United and would need them to lose at home to Southampton and for them to beat Pep Guardiola’s side, while bettering Tottenham’s result against Leicester City and recording a big goal swing, in order to have a chance of qualifying for the Europa League.

That scenario seems highly unlikely, but they have a good chance of qualifying for the Europa Conference League if can they better Spurs, Arsenal and Leeds United’s results.

The Latest: Everton suffer double injury blow

While it is an uphill task to go and beat the newly-crowned champions at the Etihad Stadium at the best of times, it will be made that much harder for Everton as Ancelotti has confirmed that both James Rodriguez and Seamus Coleman have been ruled out of the game through injury.

They are two players who would likely have started for the Merseyside club, but the Toffees will now have to try and get a result without the duo to call upon.

The Verdict: Rodriguez and Coleman key

As the club’s captain, Coleman will be a huge miss for Everton as he offers leadership off the pitch as well as on it. The Republic of Ireland international ranks highly in the squad in terms of average tackles (1.6), average clearances (1.3) and assists (three) per game in the top flight so far this season (Whoscored), and he will be a loss in these key areas.

Rodriguez offers a creative spark for the Blues as, with six goals and four assists in total in the league so far this term (Whoscored), he has also shown composure in front of goal, which is what Everton will need as they could to be limited in terms of chances against a Manchester City side who often dominate possession.

Both players could be a massive miss going into the match against the newly-crowned Premier League champions.

In other news, Everton are vying with Liverpool to sign this ace!

Everton should favour Tariq Lamptey signing

Much of Everton’s transfer business this summer could depend on whether they qualify for Europe.

A win over Arsenal last Friday has lifted them closer to the continental places and with a game in hand, they could move to within three points of the fourth spot.
It has been a fantastic season for Carlo Ancelotti’s men and if they do enter the Champions League, there will be a greater lure to playing at Goodison Park.
One area they’re looking to bolster in the window is at right-back.
Seamus Coleman will have just a year left on his Toffees contract and at the age of 32, he is no spring chicken anymore.
Fortunately, they have identified a number of replacements. Kieran Trippier is one name Marcel Brands is attracted by but Max Aarons and Tariq Lamptey have both been on their radar.
Everton are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign Aarons from Norwich and have been since February. A deal hasn’t been agreed yet but it could be in the not too distant future.
Though, Brands and Ancelotti should forget about a move for the Norwich full-back and focus on Lamptey instead.
The 20-year-old penned a new £40k-per-week contract with Brighton a few months ago but The Athletic claim Everton are undeterred by this.
He’d be a better signing for a number of reasons, not least the fact that he’s been shining in the Premier League this term.
Aarons did, of course, feature strongly in the top-flight for the Canaries last season but Lamptey has shown better defensive resolve.
If we compare their first full seasons in the Premier League, it’s the Seagulls defender who comes out on top in terms of tackling and interceptions. In 2019/20, Aarons won 1.3 tackles and one interception per game despite Norwich possessing the worst defensive record in the division.
Lamptey, however, has won 1.5 tackles per match this term and has displayed supreme reading of the game, making 1.7 interceptions.
A flying full-back, the former Chelsea youngster is also more adept with the ball at his feet, causing chaos for opposition defences. He has performed 1.4 dribbles per game throughout his time with Brighton, being fouled 2.3 times per game.

Aarons, on the other hand, made 1.3 dribbles last season but was only fouled 1.4 times an appearance.
Speaking about Lamptey’s qualities earlier this term, Noel Whelan told Football Insider: “I have loved Lamptey since he has come onto the scene. He is very exciting, loads of energy, gets forward, gets in good areas, create chances, box-to-box and has a goal in him. He is such an exciting young player.”
Indeed, he is one of the quickest players in the Premier League, using frightening speed to either make a recovering tackle or to stride forward on the overlap.
His Brighton teammate, Neal Maupay added: “This kid doesn’t have limits. He is 19 [Now 20] and playing at such a high level.”
Evidently, Lamptey has made a bigger splash at this level than Aarons has in his career so far.
Brands must ensure it’s the Brighton star they lure to Merseyside this summer.

10 players Newcastle may target

A reliable journalist has named as many as ten players that Newcastle United may target in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Newcastle may have to work on tight budget

Due to the financial impact that the global pandemic has had on clubs like the St. James’ Park faithful, the Magpies may have to work in the summer on a tight budget.

With the uncertainty over the potential takeover in the North East from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium as well, free agents, loans and low-budget transfers may be the way to go for the Tyneside club, and a journalist has picked out ten players who could fit that bill.

The Latest: Ten players Newcastle may target

Sean McCormick has picked out ten players that the Toon could potentially target that may not cost them much money coming from inferior leagues.

Writing in his latest piece for The Chronicle, the journalist has picked out Andre Ramalho, Krystian Bielik, Fabiano Parisi, Kristoffer Ajer, Gernot Trauner, Steven Caulker and Attila Szalai as potential defensive signings.

NUFC fans should be familiar with both Bielik and Caulker given their time in English football, while Ajer has been recently linked with a move to Newcastle from Celtic.

Josh DaSilva and Selim Amallah have been named as potential midfield options, with the former tearing the Magpies apart for Brentford with a goal and a man-of-the-match display in the Carabao Cup earlier on in the season.

Abdallah Sima has been named as a potential attacking signing to ease the goal scoring burden on Callum Wilson’s shoulders up top.

The Verdict: Newcastle must bolster squad

The Toon will need to bolster up their squad come the start of the next campaign so that everyone can stay as fit and injury-free as possible, as Steve Bruce would then get a chance to rotate, something he has only be able to do when forced to for most of this campaign.

Perhaps one of the names above in each position would help in this case, and they may all be available for a relatively cheap price if McCormick is to be believed.

Newcastle backed to re-sign Willems

Steve Bruce must urge Newcastle United to re-sign Jetro Willems at the end of the season after the Eintracht Frankfurt defender was backed for a return to Tyneside.

What’s the word?

While speaking with the Transfer Tavern, Daniel Pinder, the editor-in-chief at Get German Football News, claimed Willems has his heart set on returning to the Premier League with the Magpies.

Willems joined the Toon on loan for the 2019/20 campaign in a deal that carried an €11m (£9.5m) clause to buy the Dutchman, but plans were derailed after he sustained a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament rupture in January.

The left-back had been keen to secure a permanent stay in the North East before the devastating blow, but was denied the chance and moved back to Germany where he is yet to feature since returning to fitness.

Newcastle had explored a potential return for the 27-year-old during the winter market when contact was made with his agent, but opted against pursuing a deal as “Jetro hasn’t played enough” as Bruce would later confirm.

Yet a possible summer switch was not scrubbed from the cards as Willems will be out of contract in June and is refusing to sign a new contract at Deutsche Bank Park, and Pinder believes a deal is entirely possible.

“I think Newcastle is where he wants to be, and I’ve seen him like tweets from Newcastle fans on social media about a return,” he told TT. “He hasn’t really played for Eintracht Frankfurt this season as he’s down the pecking order behind the likes of [Filip] Kostic and Erik Durm.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-newcastle-news%2c-gossip-and-views-2″ title=”Latest Newcastle news, gossip and views!”]

“Obviously, his contract is up in the summer as well, so yeah, I think Newcastle will be the club for him.”

Should Newcastle re-sign Frankfurt’s Willems?

There are no guarantees of Newcastle re-signing the same player they saw during Willems’ time at St. James’ Park on loan if the Toon were to explore a summer swoop, but getting a full pre-season under his belt could see the left-back alleviate Bruce’s winter concerns.

Bruce was full of praise for Willems during the Dutchman’s five months in the North East that saw him score twice and offer three assists in 20 games across all competitions, noting via quotes by The Northern Echo:

“He was playing week in, week out and had done very well [before the injury], and his goals against [Manchester] City and Liverpool were there for everybody to see.”

The Shields Gazette’s Liam Kennedy also claimed on NUFC Matters: “He’s a player that really impressed a lot of people at the football club – not only with his performances, but his attitude.”

Bruce should now urge Newcastle to rely on those positive positions in the off-season with the Toon on the search for a new left-back at a time when funds are expected to be almost non-existent – surely making a free move for Willems all the more appealing to Mike Ashley.

The £2.5m-rated beast returned to fitness this January and has been named on the bench for 10 Bundesliga fixtures by Adi Hutter to date, and would likely have been given a chance to feature if it were not for Eintracht Frankfurt’s immense run of form.

After claiming 27 of a possible 51 points while Willems was in the treatment room, Die Adler have since taken 29 of a possible 39 – only runaway leaders Bayern Munich (32/39) have taken more since January 21.

It remains to be seen if he can get back onto the pitch before the season draws to a close next month, but that should not stop Bruce from making Willems a Newcastle player again if the chance arises.

AND in other news, an “absolutely awesome” Newcastle colossus is wanted in a £6m summer switch…
